  • they did't give a fuck about seziures back in the 20's

  • Sorry, But This Cartoon Explained 2012. Thumbs Up

  • This is inspirational.

    Really, no kidding.

  • Um. Wow? I found this when I was looking at The White Stripes- The White Stripes vinyl in the light it was scratched onto it. Along with "Got to be Controversial" weird.

  • This was long, long before MTV's Liquid Television edit and air this.

  • wow this is pretty trippy.

  • Awesome, Koko totally buries his head in the sand. Take notes, folks.

  • Love that soundtrack.

  • @ExplorerDS6789 - It's music used in Hal Roach comedy shorts, particularly those of Laurel & Hardy.

  • I was wondering where Al Gore was all this time.

  • Just bizzare!

  • This is How Cartoons Are post to be

  • I recently got a copy of the reissue of the first White Stripes lp and the name of this cartoon was etched onto the little spot between the label and the run out groove. So odd and cool! Haha.

  • how creative!

  • Neat!

  • Very cool, looks like this was a "stagger" test, as most of the takes/actions are staggers. Fun to watch, and much better than modern stuff! (Sorry Don Hertzfeldt, your stuff is cool but it can't stand up to a full studio of awesome!)

  • thank you for this!

  • Does anyone know if this short is public domain?

  • @PaulSebert All the Dave & Max Fleischer stuff is.

  • I love that music, The first tune is Dancing Shadows played by the Paul Whiteman band, circa 1928. Does anybody know anything about the second tune?

  • They showed a good chunk of this cartoon a few years ago, on MTV's "Liquid Television," with a different soundtrack. Whichever way you saw this, it was some really weird stuff!

  • hj kijo

  • I'm impressed, it's funny how something that is from 1928 is more innovative than today's animation, really experimental.

  • I used to watch this a lot around December of 1999, for fairly obvious reasons.

  • Wow, that's incredible!

  • notice flicker effect after 2'30"!

  • I guess this silent cartoon was an excellent, and funny interpretation from the cartoonists, concerning to the end of the world.

This cartoon was made in 1927,and the end of the world itself was a theme by those years, already, but exposed into a cartoon.

    I really admire their imagination!!

Nowadays, new cartoons are a real trash!!

If the characters don't kill the others, they're not happy, and don't get any success.

For God's sake!!...What the hell is that?

  • Oh my God, I never get tired no matter how many times I see this! Just goes to show what you can do with out sound.

  • god i love that.. that was just awesome...

  • . . . Although . . .

  • Or as Professor Irwin Corey used to say, "However....."

  • I originally saw this short without music, as part of the "Betty Boop Follies." The soundtrack suits it.

  • That was THE BETTY BOOP SCANDALS OF 1974.

  • ah, back when cartoons were great!

  • The Fleischers were so surreal,I love their old stuff.

  • @ramjet637 I too.

  • You can find this cartoon on the video "Cartoon Madness: The Fantastic Max Fleischer Cartoons" hosted by Leonard Maltin. Amazon has it used, available from several dealers.

  • Mmm, I don't remember, actually.))

  • WHERE DO YOU GET THIS MPEG FROM?
