@TheHartlepoolgirl Can't agree with you there. Michael Buble is,quite honestly, a pretender,a commercial product. Not only does he use autotune - something Frank would never do - but he uses Riddle, Jenkins etc arrangements; hardly original. I appreciate that he is bringing these wonderful songs to a modern audience, but in my opinion, Michael Buble is a mere imitation, he seems plastic. See Kurt Elling or many other singers who, wrongfully, don't get publicised for new ideas.
@Milestones93 I agree with you in regards to Michael Buble, but there is more to it than the use of arrangements from Nelson Riddle, Gordon Jenkins etc. Take Witchcraft as an example, the writing, arrangemnt, orchestra, singer, recording people and many other elements have to be in perfect balance to make a song a winner. In fact Witchcraft plays a big roll in all of this. Never met Frank but did Nelson, a quite unassuming man who new how to produce good music, Frank's favorite man
@JazzLover2011 Agreed. Another point is Frank's regular use of Miller, Sweets and Viola (amongst others) and his relationship with the 'studio'; orchestra members etc. All these seemingly unimportant things are actually very significant when making records; it gets the best out of everyone, they know Sinatra's character and 'method'. I completely agree with you on Witchcraft; every aspect of the recording has character, which I feel is absent in modern recordings (not just Buble)
yes we had it all in the sixties sinatra bennett elvis the beatles the beach boys marvin gaye jimmi hendrix and more , plus all the movie stars such icons we will never see like of again.
Sinatra is the best and this is a great song. Take a look at this dedication. It is great see a professional singer pay dedication who is not an impersonator but a number 1 pop selling artist in his own right! Type in: ive got you under my barisons
Just appreciate the music! Little kids, it does not make you special to show off how young you are and how legit that makes you just because you're listening to a legend that everyone knows.
People shouldn't get angry on the Youtube wall of such a magnificent song, we should all hug and contemplate the beauty of what Frankie gave us that day when he recorded that song. Thank you Mr. Sinatra.
every sinatra video i watch on youtube, i always see comments from 14-18 year olds pointing out their age. i don't get it, just 'cause you listen to something other than the mainstream chart music you feel you have to let everyone know.

Michael Buble does a lot of the same songs! I LOVE THEM BOTH!!! =D He's so much classier then the guys now. If he was here and young and came near me or looked at me, I think I'd melt! =)
Can anyone tell me what year this was performed in? I need it for a music assignment! :) My guess is about 1965, but if anyone has an exact year than that would be fantabulous!!! Thanks guys! :)
whenever i hear this sinatra music it makes me think of winter for some reason lol i always picture winter in the big city (NYC) and its flurrying snow and everyones dressed in classic fur coats and somewhat winter gear and times square is decked out in Christmas lights and im passing by the giant Christmas in times square idk know why lol
Sinatra has style but he doesn't sing with a sustained line; it's always short, as if talking. Landau, on the other hand, does have a long line and that is one of the reason Landau's singing is more captivating.
I am 59yo, I love Landau Eugene Murphy Jr, he killed it, and brought tears to my eyes, but please don't compare him with Sinatra.. His voice still needs maturation (you can even tell from the beginning of the show to the end how much it had matured), and Frank had a one of a kind voice, his phraseology changed over the years, and what you refer to as his not having a sustained line is just all wrong.
@ebman88, Contestant Landau, while not totally polished as Sinatra, did sparkle in his own emerging style. Sinatra's persona is that of an aloof big city hot shot whereas Landau was less high flown, more warm and approachable with his inviting smile. He sang his heart out with his long luscious line and perfect diction. I'll still be spining Sinatra's CDs a zillion times, but Landau's CDs will coming into my collection soon too.
@leopianotuner, I agree 100%. There is a place for both of them in my collection and I only look for Landau to get better over time. It makes me happy that there is still a following today with the younger generation and this genre of music. Move over Michael Buble!!!
Interesting to compare this version - so soon after the commercial record's release - with later live versions of "Skin." You hear him trying out different approaches to the song, but still somewhat constrained by the way he did it on the record.
yeah, maybe they'll be listening to Sinatra in 2315, four hundred years after the guy's birth, if we haven't bombed ourselves into a post-apocalyptic oblivion
If you're suggesting he's lip-synching to his '56 Capitol recording, you're wrong. This is all fresh. Aside from the difference in his phrasing and pitch from the released record, this version is missing the famous trombone solo.
@sinatramike123 Sorry, I was replying to the wrong clip. This one is V nice, Yeah live of course. Sound like a Very very close approximation to the Riddle session too. (backing) Would love to restore it (am Archive Video Engineer)
UGH America may have talent, but M*A*S*H brought me here. Amazing musicality, incredible breath control. His ability to work a phrase and hold back musically until it is most effective is far beyond any b.s. artist on the corporate owned radio to date. Genres do matter, rap is awesome, and people are as talented as people back then, we've just lost our ability to understand and display our true emotions. Everyone and everything is about money. stupid.
@ravechazer209 its a completely different genre, your 13 you dont understand that. you cant compare sinatra to rap, you can compare him to say Buble or something. ps i hate lil wayne too

have been drinking, but i can honestly say Frankie , you changed my life. You taught me to know life, be here for yourself, I love you and I know you'd love me. Frankie, your a man the world and I won't soon forget the next drink I take will be for you and what's left of this sad and fucked up world Frankie I will always love you. You left this world behind not knowing what you meant./ But the world is your legacy. Here's to you Frank ,,, I love you.
We miss the great singers of the past. Sinatra, Como, Crosby, Martin, and many others.
