  • Blue hair is not something you see everyday so to be intrigued by the fact that your hair is blue is not a sign of anyone taking in sexist ideals. sigh what has this world come to.

  • Man the harpoons!

  • I dunno... I like the blue hair and all, but I'm a sucker for a girl with pink hair. :3

But also, certain hair colors can also accentuate various facial features too right?

  • I thought Ramona was kind of a Bitch

  • @ByronDZero Only in the movie she's a bitch. Not so much in the books.

  • Your teeth are awsome :)

  • So much truth. Also makes the moment when they realise that your hair doesn't grow that way from your scalp and that you're really just a big dork who snorts when they laugh and that the laughter is usually induced by an obscure sci-fi reference, quite terrible and underwhelming for both parties.

    Lovely vids m'dear. <3

  • I'm behind the times, but this video is lovely! <3

Regardless of your hair color, you are a fantastic person, Cece!

  • @ianswertobob d'awwww thanks kiera! <3

  • Hey! I really like this video.

But a lot of me has always questioned whether or not Clementine from ESOSM is a manic pixie dream girl or not. Usually, a MPDG is really idealized, and completely perfect, but Clementine was no where near that. She was infinitely flawed, and a very intellectual girl with a lot beyond the surface, you know? Unlike Ramona Flowers, she is a very multi faceted character. I know this isn't really the point of the video, but its a thought that has been on mind mind. :)

  • @defense360 that's a great point to bring up, and Eternal Sunshine is my all time favorite film, so i am pretty well versed in Clementine. when i said that Clem is an MPDG, i meant in the traditional sense - she is quirky and different, bringing light to Joel's otherwise boring life. Clem actually rejects the idea of being an MPDG, but she is still one, regardless of her different traits. i've already discussed the matter further in previous comments if you'd care to read on (:

  • GOD DAMMIT JUST TAKE ME NOW.

  • @ShmoNerd ;D

  • I met your face

  • @michelewilla you did!!

  • What if I like your smile and your eyes?

  • @Nannirk then you are wonderful (:

  • @ohceecee Yay! I'm wonderful :)

  • Isn't Ramona more of an anti-MPDG?

  • @breStump like, aside from the fact that she's not an empty MPDG, she definitely fits the bill.

  • Wait... you're not jail-bait are you? ^_^'

  • @eggiex1 hahah nooo

  • "Your face and my face should meet." - Sure baby, just give me a time and a place! ;)

  • @eggiex1 ooh la la!

  • Why did you not dye your eyebrows?

  • @TagRation because that would be too much of a hassle, and also it would look super weird on me.

  • Yeah the blue hair is cool but I dig your personality and sense of humor more. As PC and incredibly cheesy as that sounds, lol

  • @JWatson2239 aw, well thank you! :D haha i'm relieved to know that my blue hair doesn't dwarf my personality very much!

  • ev!

  • All that face talk was getting very sensual.

  • @TallPaulsays hah! i try, i try.

  • i associated you with those characters not just because your hair is blue but also because you post ALOT about those movies on you Tumblr lol

  • @doorht touche 8)

  • tom milsom, i wasn't aware you had gotten a new channel! -julian

  • @ItTakesII best comment.

  • yup. yup. yupyupyup. i get this too.

it saddens me a little that the point in my life where i like wearing aviator goggles on my head and the point in my life where i have pink hair coincides.

  • @theloyalbadger i know the feeling heheh

  • Oh ceecee! I'll still love you even without blue hair! :) (probably) (most likely)

  • @markahenda awe, that's so sweet! (probably) (most likely)

  • I had things to say about MPDGs, & how they have negative connotations in that they never maintain their lustre [or at least the same degree] in the eyes of the male protagonist because all their traits tend to be superficial and/or a shallow front which leaves nothing underneath it for anything more than a frivolous relationship. Then I was going to say about how I didn't think Clementine really was one... but then I read the comments =/. Either way, excellent video, I like the hair!

  • @OpheliaDagger haha yep pretty much! thanks (:

  • Ev sent me.

The wiki article for Manic Pixie Dream Girl (which I was reading last night, so this is a bizarre coincidence) specifically states that Clementine from Eternal Sunshine is the OPPOSITE of a MPDG, and cites one of her lines from the film. I'd be inclined to agree.

    Also, cute hair! ;D

  • @shawnvmartin i totally agree! clem rejects the role of the manic pixie dream girl, even though her character is written as the quintessential MPDG. clem is there to add a bit of excitement to joel's otherwise boring life. the wonderful thing about her character is that she sees why a lot of guys are drawn to her, and she states that she is not going to complete them or make them more alive, and that she is just a fucked up girl looking for her own peace of mind.

    also, thanks! :D

  • ramona flowers wasnt manic she was a bitch. not that that's bad, i'm just saying.

  • @blackwayfarers yes, ramona is a bitch, but that is why she's the manic pixie dream girl. like, aside from the fact that she was *literally* the girl of scott pilgrim's dreams.

  • please don't wait with uploading a new video until this one has 800 viewes! D:

  • @MovieFreak880 but i want this one to get 800 viewsssss D:

  • I had a young girl working at a DQ tell me I looked like a filipino singer... I went and googled said singer and quickly dissagreed haha but I guess thats how it goes

  • @AliandJordanVlogs hahah, it's always the worst when people say you look like someone that you seriously look NOTHING like :P

  • Oh, hey, I wish this was me. I want to be her.

  • @LizzieRadio <3

  • I really want to dye my hair a weird colour, which is weird because normally I hate getting lots of attention. I just think it'd be a fun thing to do :)

  • @sincemarchoflastyear it is quite a fun thing to do (:

  • WE SOULD MEET,WAIT WE HAVE!...I LIKE YOUR FACE TOO!

  • @QuestionZleep hahah :P

  • I kind of noticed this when I had pink hair. But it never lasted long because I am too awkward to be a pixie dreamgirl. Manic, perhaps. Life is much more mellow with my natural hair. Though I get the occasional nonbeliever who can't believe I have natural black hair without being Italian.

  • @quirkoholic it's a very strange concept! i've gotten so much attention from my blue hair and my life has become very busy ever since i dyed it hehe

  • What's wrong with you being strangers' manic pixie dream girl?! Besides the fact that it never works out in the end. Well, at least in books it doesn't. And in "(500) Days of Summer." Whatever, you just need rollerblades, and your life will BE like Scott Pilgrim's. And a plane ticket to Toronto. I don't even know what I'm saying anymore.

  • @emmfan09 hahah oh my gosh ryan you're SO right! like, if i just got a plane ticket to canada, i could meet my scott pilgrim and it would be awesome and i would always be a manic pixie dream girl and nothing could go wrong (except when my seven evil exes turn up...)

  • I love your gap, its precious :)

  • @1WanderingDaughter hehe thanks :B

  • YOU. YOU ARE ENTERTAINING. SUBSCRIBE BUTTON BEING HIT. Yes, :D

  • @TotallyAwesomeTimes7 haha whoa thank you! :D

  • I'll manic YOUR pixie, dream girl ;)

(sorry I couldn't resist. I thought it would be okay because we're friends. What? Us? Friends? No.)

  • @fizzylimon ew. me? friends with YOU? ugh what EVEN.

  • Gah I've noticed this phenomenon but I didn't know there was a name for it! THANK YOU MANIC PIXIE DREAM GIRL! Is there a name for the utterly blank female character who solves all of the male protagonists problems just by being beautiful?

  • @LeaveItToPsmith hmmm i'm not sure! but you're welcome :D

  • By our faces meeting, do you mean that we should be face to face, or that we should kiss?

Also, on the topic of going from abnormal hair colors back to normal, it can be quite strange. I certainly got a lot of looks and attention about my hair back when it was blue or green. I quite miss it actually. I also miss walking by little kids and hearing them excitedly tell their parents that "That lady has green hair!"

  • @akmelza i totally meant kissing because i am super clever and 100% seductive all of the time.

i really liked your green hair, mel! like, i was quite fond of it! granted, i adore you brown hair as well. now that i think of it, i just like your hair always. (:

  • Yep, am rumbled, you are indeed my manic pixie fairy nymph elf siren musey thing. And it's all because of you're blue hair. That's all I notice, essentially this video was just a floating mass of blue follicles that spoke words at me. I like your hair. You're hair and my face should be of acquaintance . . . intimately.

  • @TheEditingShop I KNEW IT, JOEL. I ABSOLUTELY KNEW IT. also, you *will* get to meet me in march!

  • @ohceecee O.O . . . are you definitely coming now?

  • @TheEditingShop i've been definitely coming for two months, now!

  • @ohceecee I am so happy.

  • @TheEditingShop you better be!!!

  • YES. I got this when I had pink hair...I have brown hair now and I don;t get as much attention ;p

  • @Rachelizaunicorn haha yeah i've had coloured hair before and the same thing happened to me!

  • I often am compared to the Weasleys because of my hair. Also, I was sorted into Gryffindor on Pottermore, furthering the grounds for the comparison. And my family is kinda poor, though not very large at 3 other members, but 2 of them have red hair like me. And my girlfriend's favorite HP character was Hermione, and she is a lot like Hermione, having brunnette hair and a personality/intelligence similar to hers...weird. I must be like Ron's fourth or fifth cousin, or something along those lines.

  • @Throrindor whoa! dude, you, like, *must* be a weasley :P

  • Come to think of it, this manic pixie mythos is completely true. A few months ago, I wrote a diary entry (I know, I'm such a girl) about wanting a really quirky girl to just sweep me off my feet. It's the same principle.

  • @macroverbumsciolist it really is!!! i'm not makin' this stuff up :P

  • I like my face too :D and we should totally meet (not even joking) I'd love to meet another youtuber so much, because they have personality and you get to find out who they really are inside to an extent before meeting them, so that the awkward first meeting is less awkward :D

  • @JisouPHased haha you just have to get used to seeing them in three dimensions as opposed to only two!

  • @ohceecee Definitely, but if you ever want to arrange meeting or even collabing at any point, the offer is now there. everyone needs a british guy in a collab XD LOL anyways, loved this so much, and beneath the pixie on screen is definitely the personality I subbed to overall, and the interest that I do not discriminate :D

  • @JisouPHased awww that's so comforting to know :3 thank you so much!

  • Whoa, I was watching videos about manic pixie dream girls yesterday and then this is under videos RockstarRaquel liked today on my front page. What could this mean?

  • @sumchick345 there must be some greater meaning to all of this!

  • I've been told I look like Christina Applegate with brown hair but that's about it. I love your hair ^^ I might do it aswell someday

  • @TheGamegirly ooh, i like christina applegate! and thank you (: i'm really glad i did it!

  • I like this video a lot. (:

I miss my purple hair, and I have plans to dye it back (I even have the turquoise dye under my sink), but a bunch of things worry me. For one, I don't want to be *that* girl who dyes her hair just because she's off to college (which is why I've delayed it). Also, I am by no stretch of the imagination a manic pixie dream girl. Is it silly to be afraid of not living up to your hair?

    Anyway, yes. Awesome video. (:

  • @skywriter11 oh my goodness, i TOTALLY know what you mean! i almost feel as though i *have* to be quirky and stuff, but i try not to let that get in the way of my usual oddities :P

    and thanks!

  • @ohceecee Although, sometimes I want to dye it back because I *want* to be the manic pixie. Does that make any sense? I have days like today when it would be nice to be wanted, to be put on a pedestal, to be able to hide feelings behind quirks and bright hair. Sometimes the manic pixie archetype is comforting.

  • @skywriter11 dude, i know what you mean. it's nice to feel wanted! it's just important to stay true to yourself and not get absorbed in the archetype (:

  • @ohceecee Yeah. When you're upset, though, having that archetype to escape into would just be nice. I'm actually writing a whole long e-mail to my friend about it right now. Also, I'm currently watching Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind for the first time.

  • @skywriter11 nice choice! ESotSM is my favourite film ever :D

  • @ohceecee I hope you realize I may begin livetweeting this at you. Also, I'm considering posting what I write to Liam as a blog post. Would you like me to link it if I do?

  • @skywriter11 UHM yesyesyesyesyes

  • @ohceecee Annnnnnd done. (:

  • @skywriter11 yay!!!

  • Did... you just hit on me? LOL!!

  • @TheSchwartzcaster you betcha!

  • Ah, the Manic Pixie Dream Girl trope! I know it well. Very evocative video, in my opinion.

  • @SmileyIfSinging why, thank you! i'm glad you think so 8)

  • I think I've gotten more attention based on the length of my hair as opposed to colour.

Although I still get comments saying "Dye your hair red/blue/green again!"

And in regards to your comment question, some people have said when my hair is short and I don't wear glasses that I look like Mark Hoppus haha. I don't do any favours by preferring to play bass.

  • @TheGearsKeepTurning i definitely think the mythos is more commonly applied to women in film/tv/literature, though. i mean, if the trope was reversed so that the guy was acting as the manic pixie dream girl, i have a feeling that it would not be noticed nearly as much and perhaps it might even have less of an impact.

granted, when i see guys with brightly coloured hair, it definitely take notice! it's hard to ignore bright colours :P

  • @ohceecee

I think guys are more easily swayed typically by physical attractiveness, but I think women can do the same thing with a guy based on hair colour, especially in our nerdy circles where the guy with coloured hair is typically the cool badass who is actually a good guy.

Not that I'm cool or a badass, I'm really not. But I can see why guys would be more susceptible.

  • @TheGearsKeepTurning hahah yeah, no, i totally agree. when a male protagonist falls for the manic pixie dream girl, it is an attraction built on lust and the need to live his life to the fullest. she represents change and chaos and pushes him to try new things and step out of his comfort zone. i feel like guys can be attracted to girls that are gutsy and brave, or, in this case, have bright hair. they're drawn like a moth to a flame and sometimes they end up getting burnt!

  • I'd never heard of this Manic Pixie Dream Girl Mythos, but when you compared those characters it makes perfect sense as a recurring theme - interesting stuff!

  • @TheCooper365Project i know! i hadn't heard of it either, but it actually *is* a common trope found in pop culture (:

  • nice video about the mythos!

  • @theraccoonkid218 why thank you!

  • did you have this in mind for a video before you showed me that link? or was it brought on by that?

  • @WSeanMiller actually, i've been mulling over this idea for a while and when i sat down to make a vlog the other day, it kind of just came naturally? i dunno. it's been something i've been thinking about for a while, so i think it's just a series of unconscious coincidences on my part :P

  • People say I look like Florence And The Machine and that's epic cos she's amazing and one of my favourite people :D and you mentioned awesome people from my favourite films :D

  • @sugar1001000 ooh, i love florence! so gorgeous!

  • @ohceecee Ikr, have you got her new album? :)

  • @sugar1001000 no, i have not! i've been really wrapped up in Los Campesinos! new album "Hello Sadness" hehe

  • @ohceecee Oh cool :) "Cerimonials" is £12.99 so I'll have to wait for Christmas for the Duluxe Version :)

  • @sugar1001000 deluxe is usually the best option anyway hehe :P

  • @ohceecee Hahah, for sure! :D

  • what is the reason why your hair is blue?

  • @MovieFreak880 haha i misspoke! i totally meant to say that i often draw lines between these characters and why some people associate me with these characters (:

  • @ohceecee oh, okay :)

  • @MovieFreak880 sorry for the confusion! (:

  • This girl once told me I look like Oliver Tate from that film, Submarine. Also, bloomin' good video!

  • @macroverbumsciolist wow she sounds like a total bitch. but thanks!

  • hey, can we pretend you're the pixie girl to my rough patch?

  • @thepappytube You mght want to get that patch checked....

  • @ShmoNerd oh, hush!

  • @thepappytube You might want to get that patch checked....

  • @thepappytube always.

  • I must admit I;'ve never heard of the manic Pixie Mythos before, it is an interesting concept, idolising someone for the hair and assuming personality etc will match.

this was a truely entertaining video :D ... Also. I like your face. i do. :p

  • @helloitsmasterhulk my friend brought the trope to my attention on tumblr about a month ago and i've been chewing on the idea for quite some time! i'm glad you found the video entertaining (:

  • This is really really interesting.

  • @iliveonplanetspace i'm glad you think so :D

  • Wow, you have good insight.

  • @SparklyPlum hey, thanks!

  • I like your blue hair.

  • @MovieFreak880 omgsh! so do i! :D

  • You are lovely, and my face would love to meet yours regardless of the colour of your hair.

  • @sevdesrosiers awww, thank you c':

  • I LIEK UR FACE.

  • @elizziebooks I LIEK UR FACE 2 :3

  • OMG bulma!! YES..

  • @Psaul3 I LOVE BULMA
