Wonderful ... This event and its recording have been notoriously mangled by history, but here one does get a real sense of what an occasion it truly must have been. Yes, her hoarse voice was to some degree the result of her medication (Ritalin), but she was NOT drunk. ... Had been rehearsing and singing for days. You try singing like your 16 year old self after 48 hours of straining your vocal chords ...
When I was young, I had so many people tell me that I looked so much like Judy. I never thought so. Until after I was married I had snapshots, taken after the honeymoon, and I saw the resemblence. Spears and all other singers I cant even hear. They dress half naked, and have a miriad of singers chiming in. Nothing equals the singers of yesteryear.
I hope that one day very soon Liza does an entire show devoted to her mother ,to her mothers songs she should end it with this number,Over the rainbow.
I cry at this video so much I hope that one day very soon Liza does an entire show devoted to her mother ,to her mothers songs she should end it with this number. ps all sadness aside has anybody noticed how Liza looks like a young version of Britney Spears here or is it just me I always though Britney looked like Judy and Liza the big brown doe sad eyes or is it just me.
Although Judy's star shine was in decline at this performance, her validity as an unforgettable talent can never be questioned and is perpetually reaffirmed every time the wide eyed girl from Kansas holds her little dog Toto and skips down the Yellow Brick road to warm the hearts of those generation who will see her for the first and be as enchanted as we all were with her brilliant performance. That's her everlasting gift to humanity and I love her for it.
I like that she got the audience to sing along with her. Over the Rainbow is a song that should be shared among everybody in the world just as it has been for the past almost 73 years.. Everyone has an "over the rainbow" and the fact that Judy shared it with the audience just embodies everything the song is. :)
@TheyDontSee They were huh,Judy ounce said that Marilyn followed her all over a party and said he was scared and she said that out of all the people she followed her ,Judy loved Marilyn and Marilyn loved Judy both were seen as tragic vulnerable etc. I think Marilyn was the tragedy but Judy no because Judy had children who loved her either way I hope wherever they are they found that rainbow they both tried to get over cause Marilyn loved this song she said it gave her confidence.
Incidentally, Judy and Liza are wearing the same outfits (designed by the late Ray Aghayan} they wore for a musical number on "THE JUDY GARLAND SHOW" a year earlier.
I actually think it was a tad silly for Judy to ask the audience to sing OVER THE RAINBOW - I realize that she probably wasn't in very good voice that evening and was having trouble with her high notes - but she pulled it off at the end and I think she could have managed the entire song on her own....you get the overall feeling that she didn't feel confident about her voice for that performance.
