  • The whole beginning section of this game is the best in game tutorial I've ever experienced.

  • It has been the same with every fallout game before this point. You can also find bobble heads/collectibles in the game which will increase your SPECIAL or one of your skills depending on which bobble head it is. there was one on your dads desk in his office. Also I would personally avoid over use of perks like intense training (boring) yet educated I would recommend to snap up instantly.

And yes im going to comment on nearly every video :P

  • @WinstonBiggleswade Well, I haven't played any Fallout game before. I am completely naive here.

So far, I see the similarities to Oblivion, Morrowind and other RPGs - and in these, you can increase the stats later on.

I don't know what I could've changed as a 1 year old though. Perhaps decreased Strength and Endurance for more Perception and Intelligence or something? If that would've been actually possible. Huh.

  • Points put into S.P.E.C.A.I.L can give you certain dialog options for example someone with high perception could point things out that others could not, or someone with more intelligence could give an insight into whats going on.

A minigun is like a gatling gun. You will also need certain skills to do more unconventional things. (Like one off skill checks) for example, A certain quest gives you the opportunity to examine dead bodys, You need a medical skill of 25 or more to give a diagnosis.

  • @WinstonBiggleswade Mhm... I think I should take the perk next that allows me to increase my attributes a bit. I had thought I could increase them at level ups like in Oblivion. Since that isn't the case, it appears that I'm stuck with whatever I set them to as a 1 year old. Awkward.

  • You didn't pick sneak? How uncharacteristic of you.

  • @merdufer I think that sneak is extremely nice, but hacking and lockpicking are more important for me. If the sneak fails, you can wait that the NPCs are gone, or that it's night and the NPCs don't see you, or you can run away - but if your lockpicking and hacking skills are too low, you aren't even allowed to attempt having a go at that door/container or terminal.

I'm pathologically curious in games and just HAVE to see what's behind that locked door. :)

  • @LythaJuliania "I'm pathologically curious in games and just HAVE to see what's behind that locked door." I totally know what you mean.

  • I hate that Wally Mack guy even more than Butch, he just grates on my nerves lol.

  • also, your skill debate at the end. the skill system in fallout 3 is a bit of an abortion. kind of hopeless. you're probably able to do everything you want to, regardless of what you choose.

  • @moneyman10k Hm, no. So far, I am not allowed to have a go at "average" and higher locks and terminals, because I didn't put enough points into it yet. And my speechcraft checks tell me that I'd need to engage in a merry game of quicksave - fail - quickload & retry game if I wanted to succeed with any of them so far.

I probably should've put all my points into intelligence in the beginning or something. Attributes don't seem to increase at all. Which is weird and unexpected.

  • @LythaJuliania Oh attributes can increase, don't worry. You can chose to increase them as you level up after you get a certain perk... I think. It's been a while since I played. But you can increase them :)

  • @veriax Alright. Level 4 perk will be "educated" (more skill points), and level 5 perk will be "intense training" (increase attributes). Hrm... or otherwise around. Uhm.

This seems to make "intense training" a bit overpowered/unbalanced though, doesn't it? You either take it, or your character will suck in the end.

I've the feeling that I am missing something here.

  • @LythaJuliania unfortunately you've hit the parts not covered by my "probably". you've also hit the "abortion" part. :(

skim some gamefaqs skill/attribute guides and they'll explain. I wish I could make it clear for you, because I know what you're feeling :(

  • @moneyman10k It's okay, I don't mind having a suboptimal character who fails a lot. :)

  • not sure I approve of the starting mechanics of fallout 3. not sure.
