Keeping the corporation out of our election process makes sense but I don't think anything else did. He's defining happiness by how much the government takes care of the people. We are paying for that Santa Claus and Santa could turn on us. I'm guessing that cattle live a pretty happy life too, before the slaughter.
Even if you paid every politician $10 million, it would still be cheaper than the corporate welfare system you have now, pay the politicians tax payer money and ban them from receiving any corporate donations, it's a much better system.
Don't worry America will corrupt those countries soon enough.. Can't have happy people running around, bad for bussiness.. It's the American way or we'll kick a boot down your throat. We'll call it corporatism but everyone knows it's just that new age fascism..
Thom Hartmann is my new favorite commenter. Not only nailed the actual point with the Alameda drowning, but consistently says things that are true and logical.
Progressives certainly don't strike me as happy. Their websites like Alternet have article after article about how Americans don't farm right, don't eat right, don't fuck right, have the wrong religious beliefs, vote for the wrong politicians, etc. How can you go through life griping every day about how other people run their lives, the way Thom Hartmann does? Conservatives, by contrast, focus on ability, competence and success, and surveys show that they feel generally happier.
@MrAdvancedAtheist Why should liberals be happy when they see the country they love literally decaying around them due to 30 years of extreme right-wing economic dogma?
America has so much potential that is being wasted due to corruption and greed.
And I take extreme issue with your characterization of conservatives as "happy"...they are the whiniest, grumpiest people I know, especially since Obama's election. Websites such as Red State and Free Republic have just as many negative articles.
im from denmark and yes its a good place to live, but we have had an government for the past 10 years that has messed up all the good things you are saying and now comes the austerity measures the next 3 years so the same study will say something else for years to come i believe......
I'm glad I'm a neighbour to Norway and Denmark.. So when Sweden actually become like the U.S.. I'll just run over :D

Happiness is a personal choice, not a government policy.

40% of Americans trust their government? We must find them and wake them up (or get them off of their anti-depressants)
