I was there the night before and the crowd that night was boring and made the whole show suck. But I saw them in '92 at Dodger Stadium and the crowd was great.
It's LA, people. This is a very well documented show, it took place at the Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles on November 18th, 1987. There is a venue in Oakland called Oakland Coliseum Arena in which U2 have performed a few times, but he was either joking or forgetting where they were.
@davidshirt Right, this is the show where the stadium's torches were lit in order to salute U2 as they had become the biggest band in the world... The torches had been lit only once before: on the Pope visit!
I'm pretty sure this is from Los Angeles, despite Bono goofing up and saying Oakland, isn't this the show from the Coliseum where they (Coliseum crew) actually lit the torches before the show?
Saw JT tour 3x, my fav of all the tours, (well "Achtung Baby" a very close 2nd - who can really choose however). But NEVER got this version of BAD with "Help" to start. Absolutely awesome!!. Oh man.. I can't wait til September, I miss my boys, live & in person !!!
See video from 8:19 through 8:28 where Bono says "Holly came from Miami FLA, hitchhiked to Oakland Coliseum for the day..." to which the crowd cheers.
If I recall, U2 played at LA Memorial Coliseum and the Los Angeles Sports Arena during the '87 Tour. Acoustics were great at the Arena, and it is a smaller venue, so all seats were close. I was fortunate to see all the shows in LA and shows in Oakland and Tempe. To this day, these are some of the fondest memories of high-school/college!
I remember Bono singing HELP acapella at Dodger Stadium in '86 or '87. It was the Joshua Tree tour, of course. It was amazing. I think he also sang Lou Reed's Satellite of Love, not Walk on the Wild Side.
The performances of I Will Follow, Bullet and Bad are just perfect, pure rock'n'roll... And the Party Gilr's one is soo funny, I'll post it one of this days...

Very indeed. That's the bad part of soundoard recording as this one, you lose the live feeling of the audience, the screams, the sing-alongs... Etc.
I couldn't find an audience reecording to mix with the soundboard, Im so sorry :-/
