  • subba a canali cincu......

  • Thank you! This remains one of the best and most original Deep Purple 'side-projects'. Wish they'd re-do the whole event!

  • Ian Gillan was also there and he sang one song.

I will post the footage in the near future

  • WHAT THE... glover on piano? and who was singing? coverdale?

  • Yeah, it's Coverdale all the way. No sign of Gillan or Dio or anybody else for that matter.

  • Dio wasn't there. He was touring with Rainbow. Ian Gillan took his place.

  • yep. Glover wrote the whole butterfly album, and played the keyboard parts, including moog synthesizer, acoustic piano, etc. i love this album. Ronnis James Dio sang "love is all" (the famous "frog" video) and Coverdale sang this one song 'behind the smile"; Johnny Gustafson sang "watch out for the bat", my favourite. One of the female singers had participated in pink floyd's dark side of the moon.

  • Ha! Don't you regonaise Coverdale.

  • Am surprised this hasn't been DVDed yet. It was out on video a long time ago. Vincent Price as narrator must've been good. And this was Ian Gillan's return to music, really. The album is one of the Purple family's greatest moments.

  • As far as I know, The Butterfly Ball project doesn't feature Gillan either in studio nor live. You must have mistaken him for Glover.

    (Reminder: Butterfly Ball Lp= 1974)

  • What happened was that Ronnie James Dio couldn't appear at the Albert Hall show, so Glover asked Gillan to sing Dio's parts. Gillan, semi-retired from music (hard to believe, huh?), agreed, and got such a welcome that he started his Ian Gillan Band. So any DVD of the live show would have Gillan. I have a tape of the show - IG is there.

  • Thanks for the information. I didn't know that.

  • No problem. I got it from the band's own Appreciation Society, and a couple of books - I'm not clever or anything. :)

  • If you watch closely i do believe Ray Fenwick as Well as John Gustafson appear in this film, Is that where Ian met his backing band? Haha

  • NO friend I have the Video it came out in the later 70s i believe around 76 or 75

Gillan is in it, he sings Sitting in a Dream.

Dio did not make a live appearance and is replaced by Gillan for that song. Also John Lawton of Uriah Heep and Lucifers friend sings Love is all. Good stuff. If I had the technology id upload the whole video for you. Simply Incredible time capsule. Best wishes

  • wow lost for words..

I have the double LP, with wizards convention, didnt realize there was any footage of it live

  • cazzo canale 5!!! Quelli erano altri tempi davvero...

  • yo!!

Why on youtube do so many post stupid silly one liners...

can't they say more...? come on, what the hell? Yeh, post some more it would be cool. R Glover is awsome. The B Ball is great as well as his 2nd solo album Elements.

    IB

  • purple and off spring have no match
