  • I believe its 2nd most effective Alaap after Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali khan's Alaap. Very deep voice and great performance by Ustad Rashid Khan, a great artist from India side. I would be happy to respect the opinion of those who consider his Alaap as the best.

  • I strongly agree! I was about to comment on the effectiveness of his Alaap in reference to Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Beautiful comment!

  • you can not compare nasrat fateh ali kahn with ustad rashid khan. they are both good in their own ways.

  • I certainly agree.100%. I was only making reference to Ustad Nusrat Ji. I am deeply sorry if I came across the wrong way.

  • @KumarTabla -Ustar Nusrat was a Sufi singer, while Ustad Rashid is basically Hindustani Classical singer. So their is no question of comparison.

  • @arachoborane I understand. They have totally different takes on singing (totally different Gharanas, styles etc). I was just expressing how wonderful Ustad Rashid Khan is and saying he is in the league of masters like Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Saheb. No comparison. I misrepresented myself.

  • ahhhhh!!!!! the thirst for raag alaap was satisfied

  • the best ever, kia baat ustaadji!!

  • waah waah kya awaaz ata ki hai khuda ney. bohat khoob. what wonderful control and andaaz. this is superb!! I love ustad rashid khan's singing. phir aakhir rampur key jo hein. :-)

  • Superb. Ustad Rashid Khan is simply superb.

  • beautiful expression of raag kirwani

  • Can some tell me what movie is this from or where can i download this bandish from, but the exact same one without the tablas and the harmonium.

  • its in the film kisna

  • any kinda book cant make u to knw tha indian classical music......u'll have to learn this with any guru or ustad.....

  • Hi.Can anyone be kind enough to suggest any books or CDs to learn to recognise ragas. I love classical Indian but am a complete novice.

  • hello varaveena,

raagas are created out of sapthaswaras; sa,re,ga,ma,pa,da,ni,sa. If you do not have all the time learn authentic music now, atleast remember ragas to certain popular music, recall and sing for yourself at home. Mind you it will be a wonderful feeling for you.

  • just fantastic he s the best v have now

  • This is only an abridged, more 'commercialised'(for lack of a better term) track which, I believe, was recorded for the soundtrack of the movie, Kisna. The longer version with accompanying instruments is available as his solo LP.

  • Your visit card is complete, but nothing flattering for you ...

  • That sudhha dha in 2:03 is a bit out of raga ...

  • Kirwani is a raag is quite a "lax" raag in terms of notes, you can occasionally go out of the raag.

1carlento, no need to get angry.

  • Who told you ? Kirwani has quite exactly defined arohan and awarohan ...

  • I'm afraid Lemantech is right. It is called a 'tumri' raag which means it is more 'light' classical, so the raga is not as strictly played as other raags. My father has a degree in Raga Sangeet so trust me, he would know. This is also my favourite Raag, so I've heard a lot of renditions of this Raag and play it myself in several taals and gats (vilambat and drut). He is bringing out the other tone of the Raag in 2:03, like telling a story, the tone changed

  • @violinoamore it is indeed not a note of the raga, but when masters such as him known the proper placement to slip in out-of-rag notes, it can be very beautiful and subtly indicate a different complementary emotion.

  • OMG - what is this synthesiser doing there ??? No tanpura available ??

  • OH MY GOD,WHAT A VOICE.

    Thanks a million for posting.

    I v rated your video as a 5*****.

  • subahn allah

  • excellent

  • am not able to put my comment here it is far from infinit

  • After a short spell of alap, he sang a bandish ki thumri (without taal) in Raag Kirwani with few bawlav and taans.

  • This is from the soundtrack of a movie..shot in Devprayag.India.

  • this raag when sung is usually in ektaal i believe...from what i kno everyone sings it in ektaal...but im sure it can be sung in other taals

  • you are correct, this is sung in ektaal

  • absolutely brilliant. Khan saab is one of the best classical singers ever

  • This is not an alaap. This is a recording of a bandish missing out the tabla and harmonium and tampura tracks, and with only Rashid Khan's vocals.

  • well Rashid Khan did start off with an alaap...but the rest waz the raag

  • It is an alaap though. It doesn't need the other instruments to make it that. In fact alaaps are normally very bare, with only the voice/instrument and tanpura perhaps in the background

  • Yes I agree, but I've got this exact track on my computer, with the tampura and sarangi/harmonium and tablas added on. For some reason this version has taken out all the other instrument tracks and made it an a capella.

  • Oh right, you meant it is not the original full version. I'm sure your version is even lovelier, but I guess this user wanted to give it a more pure alaap sound, so Ustad Ji's voice could be fully appreciated.

    Peace

    K*

  • great
