@EdikShepherd There was a whole discussion about this before, which I deleted because it simply got ridiculous. The bow is over 6 feet in length and has a flat back with a rounded belly. Unless there are some minor technicalities that I am unaware of, it matches any normal definition of an English Longbow. The last person who commented on this simply refused to believe that the bow was that long, and stubbornly rejected the simple explanation it is tilted away from the 2-dimensional camera.
@EdikShepherd Also, it should be noted that the draw length of the bow is not all that long in relation to the length of the bow. I believe the specification when I ordered it was 29 inches.
@wolvenblacktalon1 Im not too sure if hickory would have a smoothe release, The best woods you could use would be Ash, or Yew. I would strongly suggest a branch of yew, at least 4 inches in diameter, and around 7 foot long, Split it in half, and you have enough wood for 2 bows, if the first goes wrong. Then all you need to do, is tiller the wood into a bow, best to use a spokeshave. Remember to dry the wood for a year, and put wood glue on the ends of the branch to stop it cracking as it dries.
@wolvenblacktalon1 Hickory was all right in my experience; that's what this longbow was. But gregarioushand is probably right that yew or ash would be better. This bow did eventually crack, and I was unable to successfully repair it. I had purchased that one, and I may try making one myself out of ash eventually to replace it, since I really miss shooting an English longbow. All I have now is a really light 40 lb recurve that isn't too much fun.
I zip tied a rag to the end of the arrow, and then soaked this rag in a mixture of diesel and gasoline. This burns well as long as the bow is not shot at full draw. At full draw, the velocity of the arrow is too great and the fire is extinguished. If anyone knows of a better method that can tolerate high velocity better I would love to here it, because this mixture usually takes several shots to get it right.
you should look at my video of a flaming arrow i tied a pieve of cloth at the end of the arrow and put tape on it then i soaked it in lighter fluid it works pretty well at high velocity if u use enough cloth :)

Maybe it's just because it's tilted away from the camera, but the shaft looks a little short for a longbow...

do some sound editing... : remove the high pitch sounds (put down the 8k to 20k)
but i have to say the the sound of the arrow in fire is amazing...

what have you done with this arrow to make it burn like this?

what you can do is soak the rag in a mixture of gas and motor oil. that usualy helps keep it lit at full draw

Dipping it in diesel is useless... diesel won't burn at the temperature that gasoline burns at.
yootubenewb 3 years ago
I disagree. The diesel adds some longevity to the quick-burning gasoline. Dipping it in diesel alone would be useless.
