@tenhatchets Indeed, there is no "X." Neither is there a "J" nor a "Y." Now ask yourself why that is. The common language of music is Italian, correct? In Italian, those letters are mostly only used for non-Italian words. Now imagine your intrepid reviewer carefully cutting and pasting a couple dozen letters from numerous PDF scores on IMSLP, and naturally finding only 23 letters. That's why.
@TheFrogndanable Please tone it down. I'm doing these videos solely out of concern for young composers. The only repayment I require is reasonable debate.
@TheFrogndanable It's also worth mentioning that (unless I am incorrect) the instruments don't come with the free trial, so the sounds you hear during the trial are either earlier version Sibelius sounds or midi from your computer. Those sounds are not going to be very good.
When you review the Sibelius 7 sound set could you offer your opinion on it compared to not only the previous Sibelius sounds, but also the GPO4 and Garritan Big Band sounds?
I was surprise to find out that kontakt 5 library has only nylon string and not acoustic guitar. other thing is while playing my Synthesizer through kontakt the sound is much better then playing it back in Sibelius 7.03.
I must say that the quality of the guitar sounds classic and acoustic in Sibelius 7.03 don't sound very much like real guitar sounds, does anybody know a nice good kontakt acoustic guitar sounds. I tried: indiginus acoustic guitar it is a bit better but still doesn't sound as a real guitar.
@dannysound1 Sounds like you are talking about "fret noise" - this can be turned up or down or even off completely if you open the mixer ("m") and adjust the smart button.
Great review, I'm looking forward to the next videos especially to hear your take on the new sound set.
As a former software developer, I also want to make a slight clarification: The software developers aren't the ones who decide what goes into a product or how. It's usually the project management & marketing. Many times us software developers come up with a great idea only to be told by management or marketing that we can't implement it.
Really love your videos Thomas, but this time I really had to pause - at 3:10. The background music is taking over. It's not the music itself, it's just that it's to loud. What's the percentage level you're using? You should lower it 'til the upcoming videos. Otherwise: great job!
@lither That's what you get for non-union work! Seriously, though, thanks for letting me know. Sometimes, different speakers will accentuate different wavelengths - both my headphones and my computer speakers don't have a problem with the levels. Point taken that yours do. I'll keep it in mind.
i ve been using it for a while now,i opened an old score with this new version, and fortunately i had a copy of the file in another folder because when i tried to open it back with sib.6 i got the message that i couldn t since last time i opened it with a newer version.the 35 gb library as far from being amazing,i sill rely on kontack libraries.conclusion so far?: sibelius 7 is for avid what vista was for microsoft
Interesting review, thank you for going into so much detail. Maybe you've had a better experience with the program than me because I've found Sibelius 7 clunky as hell, even running from a solid state drive with 3.4GHz quad core CPU and 16GB RAM. Maybe it's different on mac but you didn't say anything about lag when you start dragging when already moving the mouse. And I've had so many crashes it's not funny, Sibelius 6 was much more stable and I've found 7 unusable for instability.
Hey Thomas, thanks for a great review! You briefly mention part extraction, but has this been improved in any way? My main concern was for example: you have two trumpets sharing a staff in the score. Trumpet 1 plays solo for 4 bars. In trumpet 2s part you can hide trumpet 1s solo but you can't make it into a multirest. In Sib6 at least.
thank i was needing this since im a finale 2011 user and was thinking on step by to sib, but know i dont see much diference, except for how pretti it looks. i think the diference may be on the page editing, and choosing staffs size and think like that that are very difficult to do on finale, can you talk a bit about that.. thank this has been really useful
Yeah, adding 1st and 2nd time bars is annoying, as is lines.
When can we expect info on the new sound set? That's the main thing of interest to me as an amateur composer who never expects his compositions to be performed live.
Really good review though, I was half expecting a completely negative troll-like review like Microsoft got when they first used the Ribbon in Office. This, on the other hand, is a really good, well thought-out fair review.
in my opinion version 6 is better than version 7,maybe theys spent too long adding new sounds rahter than developing a professional interface, and the new sounds they added are thather useless if ,like me,a user relies on external libraries,i think i ll get back to version 6 and wait to version 8,i don t think i ll move to finale but if sibelius goes on in this direction i ll consider it
Interesting and useful, as I am currently running Sib First (Sib 6) and considering going Sib 7. There are enough nigglies on this assessment that I might just wait off for Sib 8, and see if they fix the issues!
Excellent.

Does anybody else think that the realism of the instruments in Sib7 is shit? Did anybody else have this problem with the free trial?????

@TheFrogndanable The free trial doesn't come with the sound set. It only plays back the standard midi sounds.

@Composer1992 I'm having that trouble too. Have you managed to get it fixed? If so, please tell me how, because I've lost count of the crashes

Thanx for answering, it was the fret noise as you wrote, finally it sounds great, I really like your videos. they are clear and to the point.
Still trying to find out why I don't get Asio in the Audio engine options, Interface
I have a creative sound blaster audigy soundcard
in my windows 7 64 bit using sibelius 7.03 64 bit
I do get Asio when I'm using the Sibelius 7.03 32 bit. anybody knows a solution for this? thanx

Also, I agree Sib has wasted time with sound patches on Sib 6. The sound patches are a bit underwhelming and in fact a bit worse.
