I don't like Hagon's commentary very much. I liked the way Beuhler talked strategy. He was often wrong, but at least he talked about the interesting elements of the match instead of just talking superficially about the plays.
@littlteapot I completely agree, Beuhler and Flores combo was my favorite because Flore brought humor. No offense to BDM he just kind of is soft spoken and not really the type to be the lead of the discussion but Hagon is absolutely boring and annoying.
@whitewater090 Well Brian Hacker was by far the best. Flores and at times Buehler could get a little too hung up on some strategy they thought would work, but they definitely kept it interesting. I think wizards might be telling their commentators not to go into complex strategy to reach to casual players, but I'm a casual player and I like it a lot when they explain strategy, because I usually don't notice some subtle plays otherwise. Also, did Beuhler retire or something?
Buehler got fired by wizards, you can google it there is plenty of articles about it. Hagon makes it feel like we are watching golf tbh, i have no idea how else to describe it. The main reason i like Flores is because of Pro Tour Los Angeles 2005, (which is also my favorite because of psychatog winning <3) he was quite humorous and talked a decent amount about philosophy, about deck construction, why things work certain ways and many other interesting things outside game play that you can see.
I was actually discussing this with a friend the other day... at what point will the new power structure and the way they are making very powerful cards actually outgrow the game? In other words how long at the current progression before they have to change some of the core rules of the game?
It feels to me right now that they use set rotations a lot to keep the game in check. Then again the most powerful cards are still "Power"...
@xXinsaneboyXx Why can't they record/upload videos in HD? Wizards is stupid. They are trying to create money. If they print less of a card the value goes up. Remember it's just ink on a small piece of cardboard.
@thegreatcerebral Yeah so is money though. Value is attributed by demand like you said, however There's a better way to create value. Increase demand, not decrease supply.
@thegreatcerebral I think they have a "mafia" with these cards, i.e. Black Lotus is a card that goes for 2000$, WOTC has the power to print these cards over and over. And Black Lotus isn't any different from any kind of card, like you said, ink on a piece of cardboard. So i think they make a fuckload of money making and selling cards like these.
@xXinsaneboyXx Exactly and now they are in a position to where they cannot simply reprint Black Lotus because they would alienate a large portion of the community that have those cards. Hence why they came out with "functional reprints" of cards everyone loves.
That or they come out with a super rare set like "From the Vaults..." series with an MSRP of what $40 but doesn't sell for less than $90... hmmm.
They actually make no money from cards like Black Lotus, Jace 2.0, or Time Walk. Since these cards are all sold as singles, most of the times from dealers, none of the money goes to Wizards.
.......... ok so jace 2.0 is sold as single, that only means dealers have to buy boxes from retailers, and retailers buy from wizards... think before posting something as stupid as that, " they actually make no money from cards" lol
@gaget3hsage Since the other part was answered below... The more "rare" WotC makes a card the more people want to find it...
Think of Jace 2.0 like the movie Willy Wonka... Million$ of "packs" sold for the "Jace Lottery". In reality WotC could have just printed more and not messed up the original pack outs and well.... the card isn't worth as much.
@historiansDemon i second this. I wish they would remake the lands from those sets and sell them in pack form. I shouldnt have to play 3 dollars for one of these lands
@thegreatcerebral yah lorwyn was the last time i played and i never cared about plans walkers i figured it would be for only one block but i gess not lol.
But i think i will start again soon since Scars of Mirrodin is gona be out soon and I originally rele started playing in Mirrodin and i loved that set so i was sohappy when i saw that on the site,
@thatguy5557123 Yea check out the spoilers and get out this weekend for the pre-release to get the Wurmcoil Engine promo. It's a fairly sick card. This set is going to make things interesting since Shards is rotating out but that doesn't mean much to you :)
Also they announced their new game type "Double Standard" so you may be able to get rid of some of your cards for a good price to get caught up since it goes back to Lorwyn.
@sakonhagakure The life is always off in large events like these. The life is confirmed by a judge, sent to a runner/cameraman, who can report it to the person who edits the border/life total. It takes a long time.
@xxinsaneboyxx Cause then they wouldn't be as special, quantity vs. quality.

@Zioniu It's much more simple to increase the value by decreasing supply. If they just printed super powerful cards then it would break the game.

@thatguy5557123 If you haven't played since before Lorywn then you are in for a surprise with Planeswalkers. Otherwise some new abilities, same game.
The only thing that would have changed recently was SOME of the rules changes made in M10. It's a quick refresher and you'll be good.
