main reason being is that shingami are sexless unable to have children. so who else would they possibly repoduse other then the souls of a death note user

@soulfucker616 actually, they don't go anywhere. Its explained in the last episode that they go to "nothingness", which means they cease to exist. I don't really know anything about shinigami's sexuality but if they needed the humans for something, they probably wouldn't be so careless about them. It was a good thought anyway. ;)

i think the shinagami realm represnts "nothingness" as the rules stat that they can go to heavan nore hell"pergatories still there. there are about 14 hints that inculd personal items. what ive also read up ryuk makes a deal with the shinagami king to bring light back.
