What I find most funny about all the proud (NON-OWNER) Gtr fanboys on the internet, is they treat it like its the biggest sin on earth if you dislike it. I have driven one and getting out just reinforced why I like 2WD, 3 pedal, lightweight, and electronic techno gizmo-free, vehicles so much more. The GTR isn't a real driver's car and any road tester or automotive journalist would attest to that.

@Realityisthetruth dude this car isnt stock, the zr1's engineer said it wasnt. It has a full rollcage, lightweight esparco racing seats, a different steering wheel and some intake modifications but its still a good run
@Vaega1 ur an idiot the roll cage stiffens up the chassis to reduce body roll and better weight distribution around corners which obviously gives you more confidence around corners and overall better handling.
@ceebowone WTF, its called a roll cage to protect you if the car rolls. That's why its called a roll cage. More weight distribution but also MORE WEIGHT so it wouldn't really matter. And the tires are OPTIONAL, meaning it can come with the car. The ZR1 itself is optional, its the high performance model Corvette. Maybe Nissan should equip the GT-R with better tires. @Vaega1 Because Nissan likes to feed their fans with nonsense BS excuses like saying the track is always wet or damp. Look at how Chevy went up there and got the job done several times with ease. The GT-R just can't beat the Corvettes, not even on the track they prepared the GT-R so much for (to beat the Porsche's). Also, the tires on the GT-R are already struggling to stay in place taking those corners with such heavy weight on them. Any softer tires would surely get torn apart.

Why does chevy always put slicks on their cars when they test them?? I bet it would have been atleast 5 secs slower if it had the tires that it comes with from the factory.. But still cool car... The corvette is the only thing gm makes that is actually worth buying.
@dtdeb99 They don't "always" use slicks(these tires aren't slicks at all...they are dot approved street legal tires). 2012 ZR1 & Z06 is the 1st time they used them and that's because the tires are a factory option now so this car is stock without any modification.

where are these around a track gtr beating machine in these figures provided by the most respected a acurate car testers and reviewers in the entire world? even if we gave the zr1 2secs to stop vette fans complaining its still a massive margin. just face it vette needed to upgrade the z06 to a zr1 to compete against a base model gtr hahahahaha
but like i said it nothing for vette fans to celebrate beating a car that has 200kgs more weight, smaller engine size, shit loads less power, and four seats, by only a couple of seconds. by right the car that is bucket loads lighter, bucket loads more power should win by a bigger margin but only a couple of seconds in the dry against the gtr would be enough for me keep my mouth shut if i were a vette fan.

@takklebarry topgear uk has ratings that far surpass that of any other car reviewers, and ppl know topgear uk b4 they know motor trend which i have never heard of. I just think its unfair to say that the zr1 is quicker because it ran track/street tyres while the gtr ran regular tyres in damp conditions, and it seems every time the vettes meeet the gtr with regular street tyres the vette seems to get spanked.

@takklebarry the ring really is suitable for the vette with its massive straights and high speed sweeping corners which complements the vettes big and high horse power engine, but once you take it to a track with low speed corners and shorter straights which is dependant on 100% handling, the gtr is a clear winner. my comments are nonsense to you cause like most vette fans, when u provide info proving the vette is not clearly quicker than the gtr you shrug it off with insults.
@ceebowone Massive straights? High speed sweeping corners? What are you looking at? The only thing thats massive is the overall size. Nürburgring has has plenty of tight turns. The Vette's average speed is 107 mph/172.19 kph. That doesn't fit the characteristics you just described. Oh by the way the Z06 ran it too and did it in 7.22:68. The average speed of 106.4 mph/171.23 kph and it's down 30 hp to the GT-R. So how does this one play in if its all about speed and the big ZR1 hp?

@ghhgyiufff i hate when you proud americans say it beats the gtr around the track, when it is just on certain tracks. when the z06 beats the gtr at every trak it met the gtr then you can say that but it hasnt, the gtr nailed the z06 by about 5sec on the topgear track, and the zr1 3 sec, and then the gtr met with zr1 at fuji speedway and again got beaten, there a few more aswell just dont remember but i will find them and post it up. so the zr1 is not as fast as a gtr around every track

This run shouldn't even be registered you could clearly hear from 0.45 seconds in to the video the host is saying the vette has modifications on it. So sad
listen to what he says. "we have a pretty substantial performance upgrade with michellen pilot sport tires aero improvements and chassis improvements" as opposed to the tires they used in older models. they also refined the chassis and aero for this model year.

TO BE a SUPER CAR, a car needs at least 2 out of 4. Top speed over 210 mph, 0-60 under 3 seconds, 1/4 mile under 11 seconds, Ring time under 7:25. The ZR1 clearly isn't a Supercar.
To be a HYPERCAR, it goes to 2 out of 4, top speed over 240mph, 0-60 under 2.75, Ring time under 7:15, or 1/4 mile in under 10 seconds,

I'd wait for a GT-R run with similar tires before I start bullshiting about the corvette ZR1 or Z06 being a better car. The GT-R still keeps it composure on and off road and it is still rated much higher in overall performance.

I'd like to know how many laps you can do with those tires. At the end you see the tire from the fender shot....they're pretty much DOT slicks! picking up gum wrappers and whatever else from the road. Ownership of a zr1 just got more expensive...

@Demonchildinc I think both Nissan and Chevy could very well make up their own times. With that said, check out the last 2 issues of Motor Trend w/ Vette versus GT-R which by the way is an independent source. The Z06 (down 130 h.p. to the ZR1) for example at Laguna Seca beats the shit out of the GT-R by about 2 seconds. . . . It's in the November 2011 issue. 1:34.43 to 1:36.35. In about 62 laps the GT-R is 2.238 miles or 3.602 km behind. Is it still plain and simple??

He was slower @ some parts of the track compared to 2008's run but he was also faster @ some too.Keep in mind that he only got 2 clean laps w/o traffic so...I'd say he did a pretty darn good job! One more thing to consider is that GM isn't after breaking records...they are after optimizing the car.

And the tires are OPTIONAL, meaning it can come with the car. The ZR1 itself is optional, its the high performance model Corvette. Maybe Nissan should equip the GT-R with better tires. The GT-R just can't beat the Corvettes, not even on the track they prepared the GT-R so much for (to beat the Porsche's). Also, the tires on the GT-R are already struggling to stay in place taking those corners with such heavy weight on them. Any softer tires would surely get torn apart.

@dtdeb99 They don't "always" use slicks(these tires aren't slicks at all...they are dot approved street legal tires). 2012 ZR1 & Z06 is the 1st time they used them and that's because the tires are a factory option now so this car is stock without any modification.

The Vette's average speed is 107 mph/172.19 kph. That doesn't fit the characteristics you just described. Oh by the way the Z06 ran it too and did it in 7.22:68. The average speed of 106.4 mph/171.23 kph and it's down 30 hp to the GT-R. So how does this one play in if its all about speed and the big ZR1 hp?

@ghhgyiufff i hate when you proud americans say it beats the gtr around the track, when it is just on certain tracks. when the z06 beats the gtr at every trak it met the gtr then you can say that but it hasnt, the gtr nailed the z06 by about 5sec on the topgear track, and the zr1 3 sec, and then the gtr met with zr1 at fuji speedway and again got beaten, there a few more aswell just dont remember but i will find them and post it up. so the zr1 is not as fast as a gtr around every track

@ghhgyiufff correct me if im wrong zr1 beat the gtr times around the ring while the gtr had less grippy tyres and the track was damp. then the other two tracks it won were american tracks wit the same tyres hrrmmmm. the z06 isnt as fast as a gtr because you have to modify the z06 as it came out of the factory while the gtr is base model as it is with no changing. so if the z06 needs to be modified with z07 parts is it fair the gtr should also get upgrades which would put it in front of a zr1

TO BE a SUPER CAR, a car needs at least 2 out of 4. Top speed over 210 mph, 0-60 under 3 seconds, 1/4 mile under 11 seconds, Ring time under 7:25. The ZR1 clearly isn't a Supercar.
To be a HYPERCAR, it goes to 2 out of 4, top speed over 240mph, 0-60 under 2.75, Ring time under 7:15, or 1/4 mile in under 10 seconds,

I'd wait for a GT-R run with similar tires before I start bullshiting about the corvette ZR1 or Z06 being a better car. The GT-R still keeps it composure on and off road and it is still rated much higher in overall performance.

I'd like to know how many laps you can do with those tires. At the end you see the tire from the fender shot....they're pretty much DOT slicks! picking up gum wrappers and whatever else from the road. Ownership of a zr1 just got more expensive...

With that said, check out the last 2 issues of Motor Trend w/ Vette versus GT-R which by the way is an independent source. The Z06 (down 130 h.p. to the ZR1) for example at Laguna Seca beats the shit out of the GT-R by about 2 seconds. . . . It's in the November 2011 issue. 1:34.43 to 1:36.35. In about 62 laps the GT-R is 2.238 miles or 3.602 km behind. Is it still plain and simple??

Was this the same driver that drove the 2008 zr1 too? 6 second improvement?! thats it? its a 7 minute lap! a better driver can make that improvement, or it could just have been the new tires. so what development did chevrolet do exactly to the 2012 model.. they should have just improved the interior quality.

He was slower @ some parts of the track compared to 2008's run but he was also faster @ some too.Keep in mind that he only got 2 clean laps w/o traffic so...I'd say he did a pretty darn good job! One more thing to consider is that GM isn't after breaking records...they are after optimizing the car.
Either way...it is a great run.

Caution: Pilot Sport Cup ZP tires are not recommended for high-speed driving on extremely wet roads/tracks with standing water where there is the risk of hydroplaning. This is especially true of shaved or worn tires. Drivers should drive cautiously at reduced speeds in these conditions.....Not street legal in most countries
