I saw in an interview with the director that he pronounced their names wrong was because he wants them to sound more asian, despite the fact that the actors aren't ASIAN!!!!
@mortalballgt52 That's literally how the names are supposed to be pronounced, but as a fan, it really throws you off. That's probably why the creators of the tv series didn't use those pronunciations, because people would prefer sock-ka, compared to so-ka.

@sber55 personally, I don't mind the abscense of the water spirit. It was sorta unexpectedly corny in the show and boring (As in it didn't last long and wasn't very action-packed) I guess it woulda been cool to see it as an improved version though.

Not saying your wrong in your Judgement, but your reasons are pretty crap for not liking it. For starters the pronunciation of the characters are correct in the movie. the pronunciation in the show was made easier for American kids to pronounce, therefore changed for an international audience. The races in the movie are created from real races Water tribes - Caucasian, Fire Nation - Those of Mediterranean background e.g Indian, Air Nomads - Mixed Races and Earth Kingdom - Asian and African.
@RedRanger000 That's BS! Out of all the Asian influence in the show, the name pronounciations weren't make easier to pronounce. Aang is not easier to pronounce that "Awng". And I believe "Soh-ka" is easier to saw. Serious, out of some of the other names that were in that show (Azulon, Ba Sing Se, Omashu, Pakku, Yue, Zhao" I don't think "Awng" and "Soh-ka" are too hard to pronounce. They even had all the writing in Chinese. Isn't that too hard for kids to read? lol XD
