Sounds like you're pretty easy speaking ill of the dead. No prob. No one can hear you from deep inside your arse. (pretty fine with Rockabilly myself)
RIP. I hate to speak ill of the dead. I saw Big Star live in Dublin. Chilton was a grumpy mean spiritied old curmudgeon. He only wanted to play rockabilly stuff. Pity he disappeared up his own arse in the latter years
@davebest2001 Grumpy? I saw Alex in the late '80s with friends. I took an LP cover with me. (I never, ever have done that, before or since.) My friends had to support me as we walked up to speak with him, as I freaked out about being so close to one of my heroes. He was anything but grumpy -- signed my Big Star album cover with "Baby Keep Cool," told me a childhood story of his mom going mental when she saw Raymond Burr at the airport, so he understood what I was going through. 100% sweet.
In Dec, 1994, in Santa Monica, ca, Alex hung out with Brian after playing our Wild Honey Tribute to Brian. Brian and Alex both performed that evening. They hadn't not seen each other since the 1960's.
That same evening, Brian saw the Wondermints for the first time and later incorporated them into his current band.
This is fucking great! Use to see Alex play a lot here in New Orleans in the early 80's in a band called PANTHER BURNS. Later I discovered Big Star. Thanks for posting.
Alex knew Brian from back in the day when the Box Tops shared bills with the Beach Boys. And the album eventually released as 1970 was at one point planned to come out the Beach Boys' Brother Records.

Wouldn't it be nice if Alex were still here. It would be a better world for sure from my point of view.

One eccentric genius references another eccentric genius. What a great moment. RIP Alex, and thank you.

He has one of the most distinct voices in rock. Sort of an underground national treasure.

When Alex hung out with Dennis and his hager-on Manson. Fascinating story in the Rob Jovanovic book on Big Star

Oh, to be a fly on the wall... I know they're both eccentric and any meetings between the two might be a tad surreal, but still, damn...
