@CrzySktch I have 11 friends who are gay. Not one made the decision to be gay. It came natural. 3 of them go to church. Not so God will cure them of it, but because they find peace of mind with it. The bible is very opinionated. I find it hard to believe it all to be the word of God. Condeming and discriminating against gays, and holding back women. It wasn't until the mid 70's where women actually started fighting back. Evangelistic women feel it pleases God to let their men b #1.

The context of the chapter (and most of the 4 Gospels) was Jesus talking to the 12, who Jesus did give special powers too to prove who they were, and to show that they had a message from God. Jesus did the same thing when He healed people, rose people from the dead...etc.

You're making a concrete claim into an unfalsifiable one.

No matter what happens(or doesn't happen) you can appeal to either "don't test God" or [insert absurd biblical claim, such as prayer working]. @CrzySktch I have 11 friends who are gay. Not one made the decision to be gay. It came natural. 3 of them go to church. Not so God will cure them of it, but because they find peace of mind with it. The bible is very opinionated. I find it hard to believe it all to be the word of God. Condeming and discriminating against gays, and holding back women. It wasn't until the mid 70's where women actually started fighting back. Evangelistic women feel it pleases God to let their men b #1.

I was a devout Christian for over 15 years. I was a Christian for 24 years. It took me close to 10 years to come to the conclusion, that there can not be a god. But, I made that decision. No one made it for me. Religion just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Neither does the belief in a god!

The context of the chapter (and most of the 4 Gospels) was Jesus talking to the 12, who Jesus did give special powers too to prove who they were, and to show that they had a message from God. Jesus did the same thing when He healed people, rose people from the dead...etc.

So of course each of the "six days of creation" is "obviously" meant to refer to a two billion year period of evolution. Of course the command to stone disobedient children to death is just a metaphor for getting them to behave better. And the thing about not putting the Lord to a foolish test was NOT invented by his pastor, but is biblical.

This kind of test is precisely the kind of test that would be a scientific test of a god claim. It tests concrete claims made in NT. Your absurd claim that this is somehow metaphorical, when it is claimed to be THE test for who is actually a believer(Driving out demons, speaking in tongues, drinking poison and healing by lying hands) is actually the unscientific one. You're making a concrete claim into an unfalsifiable one.

@pianofriken The same is of course true for the statement about not testing god. I agree it's biblical, but it amounts to making all biblical claims meaningless and untestable. No matter what happens(or doesn't happen) you can appeal to either "don't test God" or [insert absurd biblical claim, such as prayer working]. This means that the evidence for Christianity could be nothing at all and a believer could still excuse its failure to manifest. This is what we call being empty of content.

You are right... it is biblical to not tempt God (Luke 4:12). But, I haven't found anywhere it says not to test God, unless you wish to interpret those two things as one and the same. Your interpretation doesn't matter... what it says matters. Otherwise it is just what you think... and not the word of God.
