  • Pardon me, I wrote all that before the 47 mins mark. Whoops.

  • Part II:

But what I didn't catch - and maybe I need to listen more closely to a part of the talk - is what, apart from a fairer tax system, does she propose? Surely there has been more to this than an unfair tax system - for example, the opportunities, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, of exploiting labor markets in post-communist states (the earlier opening up of China is a part of this story as well). Surely taxation is only a means of mitigating the effects of much greater processes?

  • Part I:

One criticism I have is in the lack of counter-proposals. She says growing inequality is a problem, and I agree: even forgetting questions of justice, social stability is threatened by the decline in both the outcomes and the social mobility of the working and middle classes. She also decries the fact that tax breaks tend to favor the rich - and she's correct there as well.

  • Brilliant! A very concise depiction of life today.

  • This woman is delusional.

  • Great talk with a Canadian perspective!
