The high courts have ruled, repeatedly, that when a police officer acts unconstitutionally, or otherwise outside of the law, AT THAT MOMENT he ceases to be a police officer, which means, that so long as he continues to wear that uniform and badge, and represent himself as a police officer, HE IS A CIVILIAN IMPERSONATING A POLICE OFFICER.

There are several federal statutes that allow for up to 5 years imprisonment, and $10,000 in fines, for impersonating a police officer.
