If a real guy said that to me I'd be "wigged" out, and I'd think he's a co-dependent loser. The male vampires from Buffy had depth, more importantly, Buffy herself, was a great role model as a strong female, who at one point in the series, was happily single, while Bella was as co-dependent as Edward. The characters from Twilight don't teach young girls the right things, it makes stalking seem romantic ect.

I think the writers used Buffy and Spike to explore what happens when one taps into their shadow side. She came back from the dead all wonky, thought she was wonky, and felt the only one who understood was Spike. The guy was turned all wussy when he was around her, but, darn, if they made an exciting couple!.

@MJinnocent09 As much as I like Spike, I think it's just so annoying when butthurt Spuffy fans take it out on Buffy and try to turn her into this evil bitch. Remember, Buffy killed Angel. She loved Angel but she doesn't consider Angelus the same person. So she didn't "forgive" Angelus. Buffy also never loved Spike, she only used him, and they BOTH knew this. Buffy knew she was wrong, and she also began to treat Spike better in the 7th season after he got his soul.

@MJinnocent09 you're right but it was different because Angelus is a WAY different story, he never loved anything (you might say Darla but that only because she was his sire but they really were not in love) he only loved the pain he caused others by driving them crazy, torturing them, drinking their blood. Spike was not really into all of that, he felt love for Dru and didn't want to destroy the world. To Angel the soul was a punishment and to Spike its a gift/prize
