destincox, you make a valid and good point. I can see how it would be beneficial from that point of view. I would rather see someone break down their own fights. that's all. Just like Royce did.
the reason many people dont respect the guillotine is because it's easy to escape if you do it incorrectly. Many people try to pull backwards once the lock it in when youre meant to squeeze. when youre pulling back its easy for the guys head to slip out.
also its good noting that you should try to cut off air to the throat aswell as stopping bloody flow to the head through the aorta.
i know you gracie masters probably knw this already but its good to touch up on when teaching great vid btw
@joseph18dx ok well if your not being sarcastic then elaborate a bit what you mean by "finish locking it in". do you mean can't actually secure the hold or force your opponent to tap out?
if its the latter then when you've clasped your hands together try to keep your hands close to your chest and pull them up to your chin at the same time tucking your elbow as close as you can to the side of your body. This will give very little space for your opponents neck in between your wrist and bicep....
@joseph18dx ....this choke in effect does 2 things, it stops air passing through the throat aswell as cutting off blood flow to or from the head it will either make your opponent very dizzy or their limbs will start to feel very heavy and they will move slow and lose snap in punches & strength in general.
If you know what a Bearded Choke(V-Choke) it is similar to that but in a gullotine position.
@joseph18dx Another technique i tried that worked was you lift your elbow to the sky and away from your body and slightly lean away from your choking arm you will open up their neck and stop them from tucking their face into your body(thus correctly defending the choke) then you can try to use the knife-edge of your wrist to cut off air through the throat.
Experiment with the choke and see what works for you. Its all about finding ways that work for you. :)
you know, I have all the respect in the world for the Gracies who actually entered the ring and fought. but you guys have the odacity to time after time "break down" fights etc.... why don't you guys show a little respect to the guys who actually fight, and go and prove yourselves against modern day fighters. instead of analyzing what everyone does etc... Like Wallid Ismail says ( I am paraphrasing here), talk is cheap, go out and fight and then I guarantee you, your comments will be more legit
@stefan6175 i see what u mean to a point, but to the ppl who dnt understand what is going on in fights like these or didnt get to see the fight the gracies breakdown is helpful, also to the students of bjj like myself who have no intention of stepping into a ring like to see this for our own studies.
@PsychoFlounder grappling makes it funner to people that kno what theyre watching.dumbasses think its homosexual cause ill make you cry without throwing a single punch
@GracieBreakdown first of all, the video is awesome, but there is one thing. I actually saw the x-ray of Nogueira's arm and he broke the humerus. At first they thought that he didn't need surgery but he did.
@Alpinex105 it has 30 day free trial package going. Give them a call and they can give u prices. yes it is packed during certain periods of the day, but its good and fun. Sides packed or not you still get to practice it. 1 on 1 is prolly supper expensive and not worth it unless ur preparing for competition
@snowman2009 I tried.. they wanted me to come down.. I feel it's some marketing ploy.. Like those timeshare meetings. I'm thinking it's super expensive... I might look for another place.. What would you say is a reasonable price? I'm looking for $50-80 price range (i'm a student and can't afford much)
@Alpinex105 true true. They have packages Black belt package is 2k a year and u train how ever times u want (u can go every day if u want). One i was looking at is I think 1600 a year and u train 3 times a week. and yes u will have to get a package with them. If not u at least can do the 30 day fee trial and see if it is your thing or not. Also while there after ur 2nd free day u will talk to the guys who deal with paperwork. Give it a shot
@GodKiller97 Some do, some don't. For instance, GM Helio was a black belt in judo, and Renzo incorporates a lot of striking into his game, as does Rickson. However, they all rely 99% on jiu-jitsu in order to prove it is more applicable than other styles.
well it turned out that Big Nogs arm broke above the elbow they said hes gonna have a cast for 3 months and be training in 6 months very good to hear and what a great fight
there was not much jj in 141 if you look back. Overeem kneed the fuck out of Brock in the clinch, Fitch got stopped in 12 secs and Cerrone didn't even get in Diaz's guard, it was all stand up
I think the big lesson from UFC 141 is keep your elbows tight to protect your body, keep your hands up to protect your face and if your opponent is pounding you with punches and kicks follow the Gracie Combatives 4 phases: Phase I establish the clinch, Phase II execute the take-down, Phase III achieve the dominant ground position, Phase IV execute a submission.
And most importantly, don't try to beat someone at their own game! Even on a good day Lesnar's striking is no match for Overeem's
Hi guys. Could you please do the 141 breakdown? I know that it is not your duty and if somebody is ordering you to do this then he is a fool, but I really appreciate your job and it is very good to learn from you. Although there wasnt much grappling I´m sure you could find something :) Take care.
Guys, I am super impressed with your Anatomy knowledge as a Sport Massage therapist, interesting post, i saw the Mir submission and made me sick to see the arm go, you could see the shock on Big Nog's face also, he knew it was bye bye arm, it kind of went back to normal position but slow enough that you knew it was a really bad break
Im a new subscriber since 140 and I love your videos. Gone back to watch most of ;em. Im a new jiu jitsu student and these are awesome. Keep it up bros. Killer content.
@HowToDo92 Here's the breakdown of 141: Brock v Overeem. Knee to ribs "oooh!" kick to the liver "ouch" game over. Fitch v Hendricks: 1-11 seconds= dancing. 1 second later: left hook, ko. Cerrone vs Diaz, 2 great offensive bjj fighters. three 5 minute rounds, zero bjj or wrestling used, a pure boxing vs kickboxing match that was for once dominated by boxing. Anymore fights you want me to break down? Any bjj used in any of the fights?
@Hazzmania agreed.. not in the main card but the prelims had little bit of jiu jitsu which is worth mentioning.. sean pearson vs dong hung kim, jacob volkmann had good grappling as well.. although they were more for control as opposed to attack
@HowToDo92 Good point, also I think @MrAnonymousboxer made a good call there. It would have been nice to see a Gracie Combatives style breakdown, showing how a grappler like Lesnar should have fought against a striker (although also a great bjj artist). I'm not sure why Brock agreed to take the fight with a number 1 striker, and came out so tentative and with a poor standup gameplan. He should have bumrushed him, taken him down and pounded him out.
UFC 141 GRACIE BREAKDOWN OF ALISTAIR OVEREEMS CLINCH PLEASE, A LOT OF PEOPLE DON't UNDERSTAND THE TECHNICAL ASPECT OF OVEREEMS TDDS, INSTEAD THEIR THINKING LESNAR DIDNT TRY TO TAKE REEM DOWN
@BigWangLee Lesnar fought scared. You could see it in his eyes. Please don't talk about Lesnar's feeble attempts at a take down. There were plenty of other fights that showed must more technical grappling than that fight.
@hokie28 Yep it was obvious Lesnar was scared. It's only normal he'd be scared after the fights with Carwin and Velasquez. He's afraid of strikers because he's not used to getting hit.
@imnotsas he was trained in kickboxing courtesy of Jackson/Winklejohn and learned that guillotine in collegiate wrestling, his own words. I'm sure those moves exist in those arts, but Jon Jones is not a advocate of traditional martial arts
The choke John jones did on machida is a very common choke in a particular kung fu martial art, Jones also uses a lot of wing chun kung fu kicks, but the choke is not from that art.
It was not created by the Gracies it was inspired by the Gracies in Action video-series produced by the Gracie family. Art Davie proposed to Rorion Gracie to fight on the promotion.
i was wondering if rener and ryron still take like weekly lesson or something from master rorion and what there classes kinda look like? i mean i couldn't imagine the gracies not learning or training new stuff especially since JJ in general is so vast
Great explanation @ 8:13! Mir even said in the post fight that he stayed "chest-heavy" so that Big Nog couldn't drive into him. I wish people would talk more about THAT TRANSITION to side-control than the arm break. Possibly the most intelligent jiu-jitsu move I've ever seen.
You guys are awesome as usual, but I do have one question. You didnt really discuss one important aspect of the frank mir fight. To tap, or not to tap..... No disrespect at all intended toward Big Nog, i truly and utterly respect him, and have for a long time now. But shouldnt such a top level BJJ practitioner know when hes not going to be able to escape a lock? Would you have tapped? Much love Big Nog, hope you recover swiftly.
I learned a lot from just this one video! I had my rotator torn from a Kimura, I really wish it would have been a broken arm instead, I may never fight again with the amount of damage done to my shoulder.
yeah, you guys are right. machida absolutely won that first round, unquestionably. did they judges really have that one scored for jones? you would think that they would require the judges to actually have some sort of MMA knowledge.
@you0axed0for0it They're the sons of Rorion, the actual founder of the UFC. Royce is Rorion's brother, and their uncle, who was asked by Rorion to compete in his organization to show Jiu-Jitsu to the world.
@UFCfan4lif3 You know what the humerus is? It's the bone of your upper arm! That's pretty bad, Nog has a metal plate with something like 16 screws holding his arm together. He'll be out for at least a year.
Fascinating breakdown of the Mir/Nog fight. Awesome video guys!

I had my rotator torn from a Kimura, I really wish it would have been a broken arm instead, I may never fight again with the amount of damage done to my shoulder.

yeah, you guys are right. machida absolutely won that first round, unquestionably. did they judges really have that one scored for jones? you would think that they would require the judges to actually have some sort of MMA knowledge.

you0axed0for0it 2 months ago
@you0axed0for0it They're the sons of Rorion, the actual founder of the UFC. Royce is Rorion's brother, and their uncle, who was asked by Rorion to compete in his organization to show Jiu-Jitsu to the world.

Mental arm lock, didnt realise it was the elbow not the shoulder.

@zMiLKShaKE It wasn't elbow or shoulder, Mir actually snapped Nogs humerus.

@SugarFreeRecordsUK
is that good or bad and how long does that type of injury heal?
UFCfan4lif3 2 months ago
@UFCfan4lif3 You know what the humerus is? It's the bone of your upper arm! That's pretty bad, Nog has a metal plate with something like 16 screws holding his arm together. He'll be out for at least a year.
