The bible is also completely misunderstood by most people. There is a lot of spiritual beings who are evil and they do mingle with mankind. People think God was evil when he told isreal to take the land by force and to kill all who were there. There are things about the beings/people that were to be killed that unless you really study the bible and other things from antiquity it sound evil. Judy Shephard, becomes a spokesperson for persecution of people who are different and prejudice. Why don't you find M.A.D.D spokespersons and others who are speaking for stopping persecutions or those who are guest speakers for drunk driving or to stop drug use.

Awareness campaigns exist and people end their normal working lives to stand up for these causes.

@elbib1 The Matthew Shepard thing is debatable. People assume he was killed because he was gay, but his killers said they robbed him for money to buy drugs. There is no concrete proof that he was killed because he was gay, but that doesn't make his death any less tragic. As far as Judy Shepard, her speaking fees are awfully inflated. She appears to be cashing in quite handsomely with book and movies deals as well, which doesn't seem ethical to me. Just my opinion.

@elbib1 I'm not standing up for Fred Phelps. According to his other children who are still with the church, they also received disciplinary action. They claim it wasn't "abusive" though. Supposedly Nate got more whoopings for things like stealing, but that is debatable. The fact of the matter is, though, he chose to leave (albeit he possibly felt he had to), while most of the other children chose to stay and grow up in the church. He wasn't "kicked out" which has often been implied.
