Congress already hands out subsidies for petroleum so they have already picked a "winner" in the market: BIG OIL. The reason that natural gas vehicles are EVERYWHERE in the rest of the world is because it is cheap to convert a car to operate on natural gas in those countries. In the US, the EPA enforces unbelievably burdensome certification laws making a conversion cost near $12,000 as opposed to about $1,200 in other countries. So the Federal government is already interfering in the free market
Bad slant on a good bill. The real issue is there is no energy policy. The Pickens Plan is the only plan introduced that focuses on producing domestic sources of fuel and stopping the import of 65% of our oil. Focusing on domestic sources will increase natural security and create jobs. I have no problem with no subsidies for nat gas. Just make sure there are no subsides for any other energy source like oil and electric like there is now. Just make it equal. alternative will
