That's not dumb at all. AWD is always 4 wheels with power being given to them from the motor etc. 4WD is being able to shift into 4WD and you don't have to always have it on. There two way different things.
Driver ability was a massive part to why these cars finished as they did. Not to mention the Evo is the top snow car with just the spec sheet and the WRX was second best and always will be in this year range out of the box. The GTR is a fat pig of a car with a very long wheel base to boot and tons of electronic controls holding it down too. This wasn't a race, but a comparison. The finishing order seems to speak volumes for the cars when looking at it from an open minded perspective as I am.

The GT-R isn't really built for the snow. It would more than likely beat those other two cars on road circuit races like the old Fuji Speedway or Tsukuba. Still pretty cool that Nakaya, Tsuchiya, and Gan-san could have some fun in the snow.
Even the new GT-R put into rally by Donut King didn't even finish the race at Targa Tasmania.
The EVO was a specially prepared Tommy Makkinen edition, the WRX STI seemed to be just a regular stock STI and the GT-R was completely out of this rally cars league, so I don't know what was the point of the race. It was a good show though.

The EVO is a Tommi Mäkinen Edition. Very close to a real gr.N rally car. Plus you can tell the drivers of the STi and GTR dont have much experience in rally-driving.
GTR's a track-tuned car, never ran rallies (at least no factory backing); STi really a rally car for street, Evo would always win here - rawest rally car & best handling anywhere over STi
i agree wholeheartedly. in the end of the video the skyline was simply keeping pace with the sti, because it just couldnt get around it. if it had the opportunity to get ahead it would create a gap between them fast enough.

The Evo has Active Diffs that control the power by computer to all four wheels. In Snow mode, the diffs are set tight to provide best grip.
The Subaru has three limited slip differentials, with a variable Center that can adjust the power split manually. The Subaru is set up for gravel and moderate understeer.
The GT-R also has active diffs, but it is designed to drive the rear wheels until the car absolutely needs more grip, so a lot of power is wasted.
Evo and STi's are meant for rallying that's why they won in my opinion.. They're use to snow / dirt and all that off road stuff. GT-R's can't compete in the WRC due to it being a 2.6 liter because WRC only allows 2.0 liters. And don't call Gan-san a bad driver.. He's one of the best japanese drivers, I think he might be even better than Tsuchiya.
It was nothing to do with which car had the power, but which could put it to the road. We also saw that once behind another car, it was very hard to get up enough speed to overtake when your drive wheels are slipping to overtake before the next corner, and of course if you missed, you were then on a bad line.
I third DaPlanero. The person driving the Skyline is Motoharu Korusawa aka Gan-san. He is a crazy racer. U didnt seen him perform during a special battle. Sure the Skyline would owned if the Ettessa-ETS (not sure what it is called) taken away from the Skyline. Not sure but that what that is what japanese guy is saying. skylinerox, the person driving the EVO is Nakaya an EVO specialist. The impreza is Keiichi Tsuichiya aka Drift King. The Skyline is Motoharu Korusawa. All 3 are the best.
Don't get me wrong.. I love the GT-R.. but an Evo and STi finished like they should've. GT-R's aren't rally cars... if they were, Nissan would've made them a 2.0 liter instead of a 2.6. :P They made the GT-R to dominate on a circuit. Not off road.

In case you guys don't understand Jap or the sub. I'll highlight some of them:
1)Narrator: Gan san be careful, safety first(first corner)!
2)EVO has got very good traction
3) Tsuchiya: Why can't the impreza accelerate in a straight line?
4)the Evos got good ABS
5)Narrator: Only impreza has not got ABS out of the 3
6) Gan San: Tsuchiya is suffering (on the understeer)

just goes to show that not all AWD systems are created equally. I live in the U.S. but I'll never understand y everyone still fawns over the GTRs when we have Evo's and STi's now, too... They are just as good.

A lot of people making excuses. If the GT-R is for circuits and the STi and Evo for Rally, why do you see Evo's and STi's winning on circuits all the time??
The GT-R is a great car, but it seems to me that the STi and Evo are more adaptable to almost ANY race type.
What cars on the entire planet are so adept at being quick on any type of car-going track like the Evo and STi??

GT-R may be limited to circuits due to its WEIGHT and SIZE, but it's accomplished more than the Evo or Subaru could ever do out of rally. Do more research, douche.

The EVO is a Tommi Mäkinen Edition. Very close to a real gr.N rally car. Plus you can tell the drivers of the STi and GTR dont have much experience in rally-driving.

GTR's a track-tuned car, never ran rallies (at least no factory backing); STi really a rally car for street, Evo would always win here - rawest rally car & best handling anywhere over STi

i agree wholeheartedly. in the end of the video the skyline was simply keeping pace with the sti, because it just couldnt get around it. if it had the opportunity to get ahead it would create a gap between them fast enough.

The Evo has Active Diffs that control the power by computer to all four wheels. In Snow mode, the diffs are set tight to provide best grip.
The Subaru has three limited slip differentials, with a variable Center that can adjust the power split manually. The Subaru is set up for gravel and moderate understeer.
The GT-R also has active diffs, but it is designed to drive the rear wheels until the car absolutely needs more grip, so a lot of power is wasted.

Evo and STi's are meant for rallying that's why they won in my opinion.. They're use to snow / dirt and all that off road stuff. GT-R's can't compete in the WRC due to it being a 2.6 liter because WRC only allows 2.0 liters. And don't call Gan-san a bad driver.. He's one of the best japanese drivers, I think he might be even better than Tsuchiya.

It was nothing to do with which car had the power, but which could put it to the road. We also saw that once behind another car, it was very hard to get up enough speed to overtake when your drive wheels are slipping to overtake before the next corner, and of course if you missed, you were then on a bad line.

I third DaPlanero. The person driving the Skyline is Motoharu Korusawa aka Gan-san. He is a crazy racer. U didnt seen him perform during a special battle. Sure the Skyline would owned if the Ettessa-ETS (not sure what it is called) taken away from the Skyline. Not sure but that what that is what japanese guy is saying. skylinerox, the person driving the EVO is Nakaya an EVO specialist. The impreza is Keiichi Tsuichiya aka Drift King. The Skyline is Motoharu Korusawa. All 3 are the best.

Don't get me wrong.. I love the GT-R.. but an Evo and STi finished like they should've. GT-R's aren't rally cars... if they were, Nissan would've made them a 2.0 liter instead of a 2.6. :P They made the GT-R to dominate on a circuit. Not off road.
