"Tron: Legacy crossed the $100 million mark at the domestic box office on Tuesday. The movie, budgeted at $170 million, which has been in U.S. theaters for 12 days, has also made around $75 million overseas.

The most interesting note about the domestic number is that almost a quarter of the box office receipts -- about $25 million -- are from IMAX theaters. Tron is playing in 3,451 theaters across Canada and the U.S., with only 235 of those being IMAX houses.

This entire trailer was a visual test created in 2008 for Tron: Legacy. The director and producers weren't too sure how people would react to a Tron sequel. This was shown at ComicCon to see how people would react. Because fans rejoiced and wanted more, Legacy was created. This trailer isn't meant to be a sequel to Legacy.

This trailer is canon. It serves as a prequel to Legacy and is set in the Grid Ver. 4. Legacy is set in Ver. 5.

For ppl that don't know this Tron that is out now is Tron 2, Tron 1982 showed Kevin getting into the grid, and the Tron that is out now is his son trying to get him out. This video could be Tron 3 I hope so :)

@ppaaggss1313 It's almost made it's entire budget back within the first week of it's release, and the updates are coming this week. I predict that the gross revenue at the end of it's theatrical run will highly outweigh it's original budget. So, yes, I 91% guarantee there is going to be Tron 3.

@73kashmir actually it is just as good, it expands on the mythos and it also brings it up to date. I can bet you 10 bucks that when you were seeing computers start to make a big difference in special effects that you immediately thought about Tron coming back. Here you go.

If the film is anywhere near as good as the game I guarantee you'll be blown away. The 3D graphics in the game are simply and utterly STAGGERING. The player on screen actually seems as if you could touch it the effect is so realistic. Never will i play a 2d game after this again.

The trouble with computer animation these days, is it looks TOO real. The Tron universe is supposed to look artificial. But I have to say, this somehow still captures the feel of the computer world. And in 3-D, I imagine it will look awesome.

Yeah, I know some people come down on movies with eye-candy special effects, but remember that it was the groundbreaking CG animation that made the original such an iconic movie.

@ShawnRavenfire But you must take the progress we've made in the gaming industry into consideration. Back in the 80's, 3D animation wasn't at all as it is today due to the lack of know how. This version of the Tron world looks artificial, but not in the way you precieve it. It's meant to appear real, but inorganic. There aren't any elements of life in the game: trees, plants, ect. Never knew of Tron until I was told one of paintings resembled it. XD

I think you will find that the CG from the original is from the 70's.

Also all the live action was filmed in black and white, cut out by hand, and back lit with aero-gels.

I have yet to see any CG that measures up to backlit aerogels (at least without 5-10 years of computer time for a full-length movie.)

And yes, I did prefer the original Lightsaber with the backlit aerogels to the new CG-ified saber.
