I love how this guy thinks that making one group poorer will make another group rich in this country. Even if we took away all bureaucrats income away and gave it to blue collar workers, we are still only playing with a tiny fraction of the money in this country. Its like pitying slaves against other slaves because one group of slaves gets to take a 15 minute break and the other group thinks they should get 7.5 minutes of that break. Both are forgetting the fact that the game is rigged to start.
Remember it's not about republicans or democrats etc. It's about all the bureaucrats and their failure to accomplish anything. Our governments greatest power is their power to calmly coerce us into doing what they want us to.
I agree that Bureaucrats are paid to much; just as CEOs, Football players, and members of congress. WE THE PEOPLE need to start a grass roots organization to force drastic pay cuts to any and all that hold office, or play a professional sport. Hotdogs at the game should not cost 5-6 bucks, and gas should be no more that $2 a gal. And another thing that kills me is big corporations trying to justify packing up and going over seas, like to China. They say...
There are too many government workers all over the world. Yes, they get paid too much. The cause is inflation. In the old days, the man went out to work, and his woman stayed at home. Inflation means that both partners have to go out to work to make ends meet. When you are having trouble with a bureaucrat, it is always seems to be some stupid woman who is getting under everyone's feet. If it is a man, he is nearly always a homosexual. Office jobs should be for men only.
Yes, I've thought about that many times. I'm just old enough to remember President Eisenhower. ( I'm a few days shy of 60) We should have listened better. @uncleezra1 I don't think so. Hippies are ineffectual and vacuous, for the most part. Most of them became the conformist freaks we see now shreiking that Feds are overpaid and too generously compensated, all part of "sticking it to the man!" don't you know? Don't worry though I have an idea.
You cretins! How dare you! Federal wages over the period 1980-2010 have fallen. So what? Cut pay so we can give the rich another tax cut as if that has ever worked. Oh and by the way, the reason Federal employees don't seem to do any work is that politicals don't get out of the way and let them do the work. The Bureaucracy keeps us safe. The Bureaucracy should be better paid.
You want to know someone in the government who gets paid far too much for the little amount of work the do??? Congressmen- especially the Tea Party backed ones that are pushing this crap. They won't do it because they are self serving, but I challenge them to turn back some of their benefits or salary is they are so determined that this is the answer.
Well, I am a civil service worker and I DO work. I am a training manager for an Air Force unit and I put in a 40 hour week, every week. but in actuality I cram 50-70 hours into that week. I and many ( the vast majority ) like me do this day in and day out so our soldiers, sailors and airmen can do their primary job, which is protecting our freedom.

You would do better to direct your wrath toward Corporate America and the way they have Congress in their back pockets, to put it politely. This is exactly right. As conservatives, we must cut pay, increase hours, slash benefits and decrease job security wherever possible. Any true conservative knows that we must continue to shrink the middle class so the more deserving people on top can succeed. We should not encourage mediocrity in this country, and those in the middle must suffer
@matt17na You do realize your "middle class" of state workers is born on the backs of the poor right? Teachers alone will consume 3 trillion dollars of taxpayer money in the next 10 years. You throw stones at the Koch brothers thinking them over paid but you never average all the business people that make little to nothing every year. Tax all the rich you can find but you'll not put a dent in the 50 TRILLION of total federal and state spending in the next decade.

This is not even logical. You're trying to tie together 2 things that have absolutely no relationship. Did it come off a talk show? Sounds like Glenn Beck and his blackboard.
If taxes pay your wages you should not be allowed to unionize. For one thing, you are already in a union of sorts....you are a VOTER. I'm sorry, teacher unions, postal unions, civil service unions, all should be eliminated. Here is the test:
Are people FORCED to pay your salary (taxes; pay them or go to jail) or are your salaries paid voluntarily by people (products, services)? Private sector, none of my business what you make, govt employee you work for me.
Government employees spend their incomes in bars and restaurants and on cleaners and gardeners etc so their incomes spur further employment. Low income private sector jobs do not give people enough disposable income to create employment by their spending.
Some of the biggest money goes into lobbying as was pointed out but lobbyists do not work for the government. They are privately employed by large corporations and moneyed interests to write and pass laws benefiting corporations and money.
@fluffymcdeath Where do you think the wages for those government workers COMES from!!!!! - Those already small (according to you) private sector jobs!!!!
1) Consider that the government taxes back a percentage of the wage immediately therefore 100k costs the government less than it costs private industry.
2) Consider that private pay is so much less because business owners take a big share of the wage instead of paying it to the worker. Therefore instead of taxing the worker you would tax the income of the person who kept the money instead of paying it to the worker, or to tax the unproductive "investments" those people make.
Consider this: Government does not create ANYTHING. It can ONLY function by taking money from those who earn it.
As to your points: 100% of a government workers wage is taken from the private sector workers. The wage the government worker pays back STILL originated from the private sector worker. PERIOD.
@ToddAldrich "Government does not create ANYTHING." Really? My local government creates tons of clean water from dirty water. My local government creates roads. There are many other examples and yes, they are created by my local, provincial and federal governments.
While taxes come out of the productive economy they also come from rental and interest income (neither of which are productive and are also a drain on the productive economy but a private drain).
No they do not. Your tax money does. Every penny they use to clean your water is money they take by force. Not only that, they take opportunity from someone else who likely could do it more efficiently. They take this persons tax money and use it to keep him out of business.
@ToddAldrich They DO. With tax money - the tax money is used by the government to produce.
As to whether a private company could do the job more efficiently, that is debatable, however they would not do it as affordably. Private companies running essential services inevitably gouge consumers and underpay employees to increase profits. Infrastructure costs act as an effective barrier to entry for competitors and you end up with a monopoly that screws you (and you can't vote out).
@fluffymcdeath: Private pay is so much less than the government sector because people are willing to work for that wage. People are paid by the productivity of their work. This is why someone with a college degree makes more than someone who works in retail. The person with a college degree that works in the services sector makes more because he creates more wealth. Doesn't it say something that government pays twice as much as the private sector and drains the wellbeing of taxpayers?
"People are paid by the productivity of their work."
Productivity has risen much faster than wages in the US over the past couple of decades so your direct correlation doesn't seem to hold. Based on productivity, private wages should be higher than they are now. Perhaps the downward pressure on wages is better explained by a virtual monopsony in the labour market. (no, I didn't mis-spell that, I really mean "monopsony ").
The problem shown by these charts is that the income of private workers is far too low. Private industry is able to take advantage of the disorganized state of labour to keep wage increases below the cost of living and that is why most Americans make less now than they would have if they worked the same jobs 20 years ago. The difference goes to wealthy investors and owners. The top incomes in the private sector are stratospheric. That's were the wealth is being sucked out of the US.
This is a flat out lie. In 1990, the average hourly wage of non-supervisory employees was $10.20 as on 2009 it was up to $18.62 - nearly double. - According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That out paced the cost of living by $1.88 per hour.
You liberals REALLY should check your fact before you expose just how ignorant you are.
Welfare jobs of the rich and useless!!....The real "Inconvenient Truth"!!! Wake the fuck up!!! America!! The insane clown posse in DC has been sucking the tax payers dry for the last fifty years!!!!!!!!!
merchakoful: I believe he was referring to the fact that the government is not taxed and provides no revenue of it's own, not that it's employees are not taxed.
This guy makes it seem like government employees are the result of the budget deficits and national debt. But that's not true. Salaries are only a very small part of the budget. Social Security and Medicare are going to do us in. The national debt and government workers' salaries are minuscule compared to those obligations.
@RalphNelson You need to consider also that cost of living increases for the elderly and disabled, medicare and medicaid are increases for the States, not the individual recipient - the recipient has their benefits cut every time there is a COLA. Without a doubt, the increase goes to the State. Another little known fact is that any benefits anyone does get, the government gets back when the recipient dies; it comes out of their estate.
@RalphNelson - Wrong dumbass!! what he is saying, is that your all part of the fucking problem!!!!...and "social security and medicare" are the creation of the asscpuppets in DC!!!! and are the reason those programs are failing!!!!
Hey thanks for the personal attacks. I still maintain you didn't watch the video and if you did your brain dead because everything you metioned in your email certainly looks like you are writing about yourself.
people wonder why libertarians are so negative and pissed off. Frankly, i wish we had something to be positive about. Dan Mitchell is very informative, but every single one of his videos just gives me one more thing to hate.
What video did you just watch? You must be one of the 6 figuirer's in government. I PAY YOUR Salary and you need to be fired! How much did you produce since you were in your government job? What did you give to the GNP? Your comments pretty much make you a leach on society.
@Craigy62 Yeah, but the fact that government employees by definition contribute zero to the GDP and that they are not taxed at all is not stressed at all in this video.
The only thing it does is repeat over and over again that private sector treats it's employees like shit. I am sorry but this video sounds as if it's straight from the CPUSA.
@11thsockpuppet Where would you get that from? You're just name calling. I'm a civilian government employee, and I wanted to inform you that we're taxed just like everybody else. If, however, you're just referring to the government itself as not being taxed as @fredgirardmusic says, I'm fine with your criticism.
@merchakoful you are not taxed; the good hardworking people in the private sector are taxed to pay for your big fat socialist AFLCIO/SEIU paycheck and pension plan.
@ToddAldrich Not at all. Watch it more carefully and you'll see that it poses as libertarian material only to reiterate the labor unions' talking points.
I don't see a bit of labor Union talking points. NOTHING - and since this is CATO - the leading Libertarian think tank out there, I doubt they are trying to push the Statist agenda. It was a rant against government Unions. It advocated the abolishment of whole departments - nearly a dozen of them. That is not a statist agenda. If I have missed something, PLEASE point it out to me. I just don't see it.
Scared of loosing your cush government job? Yeah! I'm really dumb to believe all those statistics form the Department of Labor. Yeah! Sure! And your head is up your ... where the sun don't shine.
when cities, municipalities, public authorities go through a budget crunch, they will lay off the low skilled employees earning peanut wages. And then these agencies will boast annual savings, while maintaining and preserving overpaid employee positions. Thats govt for you
I say mandate all govt employee earning cap at $49,000, and switch pensions from government back pension authorities to enron like 401k.
@MikeLovesPui How dare you! Unions, if you study EPI figures, decrease inequality, Federal Bureaucrats are hated by politicals who don't want them to do any work as Federal employees tell it like it is, and power does not want to hear it. The Bureaucracy was put in place to make sure our food was safe, our water drinkable, our working places protected from the tyranny of the boss, and you attack it! You are un-American. Without a strong government there would be no country.
I've said for years, cut the pay 20% , see how many walk.. We in private business or self employed take pay cuts when the S hits the fan, these guys have no idea.. fire them all..
Common sense tells you if there are too many government workers making such high salaries/benefits compared to the private sector WHO FUNDS IT ALL, we will be Greece with the only option being to print more money to "pay" for it all. Ask the Germans how that worked in the 1920's. People have been dumbed down to think government can actually provide for them. That fallacy has failed throughout history.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
By way of introduction, let's start with the unmasked bias of the presenter, who works for a anti-government libertarian "think tank." Over the past 20 years, the Feds outsourced almost all of their unskilled, semi-skilled, and blue and pink collar jobs. The Feds operate predominantly in high cost urban areas with a professional, aging workforce. Comparing "national averages" is crazy. Compare like jobs, in like markets, and like levels of proficiency, and this entire "analysis" crumbles.
@finserra1 Great point government eliitist! let's move all government to low cost areas! why should we pay for that crap when the rest of live in low cost areas so we can afford to pay the inflated DC rents and salaries? DC is a war zone now anyway. suggesting one issue for argument does not make the rest of the analysis crumble. How convenient and how typical of an government employed elitist. your days are numbered.
Just another fault of our society today. We rely on government and other institutions to save us. We don't need politicians, religious preachers, or bankers, we need PROBLEM SOLVERS! Take all of these useless professions, train them to solve problems, and get our entire human race on the track to a better world for a change. Remember this, everyone...this isn't only America's problem, it's EVERYONE'S problem.
@leafblowinSK8 Ofcourse they need energy and building DEP. is he stupid, i agree n this stats (even though i dont know if its true) that federals are getting payd too much, even soo they cant remove all those DEP. F*** moron, they need to make them more efficent,,,,, cmon man your being to subjective, and thinking that all is BLACK and WHITE....
Your waking up my friend. If your in for a fight, join with the Patriots in your area. We're tired of this BS and we're not going to take it anymore. Vote on Novemer second. Study your candidates. Learn who will be YOUR representative and not your lobbiest.
I've been hearing more on this lately. It's been on my mind for over 10 years. Govt. workers are milking the tax payer. 0bama is about to give the teachers union 160,000,000 to bail out their pension plan. It's all about buying votes. Since when can a political party use taxes for campaign bribes? Perhaps this will be the next item on the docket after health and immigration. I've heard that educational administrators a nearby school district will get 5 million during his retirement alone.
The funny thing is, the federal and state governments keep laying off the necessary fields like city geologists and water quality testing people, yet keep hiring high level, high pay, bureaucrats... makes no sense.
Yeah! That's the way they can raise their salaries.Fire the people that we entrust with our health so the fat cat bureaucrats can find the money in their budgets to give themselves a raise. Fire them, fire them by voting in Patriots. People that will rid us of all this waste of flesh.
Thanks for the presentation of a huge problem in America. I predict America will be bankrupt within two years because I don't believe government will change. Honestly, I think this is a planned implosion of America just like 9/11 was a planned implosion of the three buildings. 9/11 was an inside job and this too is an inside job in order to end America and make us the next third world country.
Oh Boy! I've heard of people like you. But I never thought in my wildest dreams I would catch one in a blog site like this. You must spend a lot of time reading the BS blogs. Maybe you should get up and take a walk, get some fresh air and find yourself a jihadist. Maybe it's the BIG O! No hope for you, sorry!
@Craigy62 You’re a brainwashed zombie with cognitive disabilities or you’re a spineless, degenerate that would sellout friends, family and America for a government check paid to divert truth. Either way, you’re certainly a participant in ruining America with ignorance or greed - a traitor. There is no other rational explanation for your comments. I do not understand how anyone with a brain can not see what is really going on here. I’d bet you’re a sad, sad creep that nobody really loves. URLost.
It would be one thing IF we were getting any productivity for our money; But NOOooooo.... Government "workers" are the antithesis of productivity, we can't fire them, and they are the most protected "non-workers" in the country.
Yet another crime perpetrated on the taxpayers you'll never read about in the Malfeasant Media. (I guess one monkey jerks off the other, eh?)
There is only one answer to this overpaid bureaucrat problem. It will be a civil war between those on the governmtne teat and those who pay the taxes to fund the government teat (and live of the the fruits of their own labor). Given the mentaility of those on the government teat, I pick the other side in the upcoming most uncivil war.
Can a future candidate for president promise to address this and cut the size of govenment in half? George Bush was no better than this man-child president we have today - both presided over and encouraged bloated government.
There are many Federal agencies that shouldn't exist that and the lavish benefit packages that go along with them as well as the retirement compensation is hugely bloated as well. The money spent on our military actually needs to be somewhat increased imo though.
@okvideos5 Thanks for your input now don't respond to me ever again, I only like to have conversations with people that have at least some idea of what they are talking about.
@okvideos5 I told you that you were to stupid to have a discussion with and you just keep proving it. Now let it go and move on you're a minor annoyance at best, once you've taken a turn around the world you might have an opinion I would give a rip about until then grow up.
@Leavon The only argument you have is to call the other person stupid, which proves vice versa. The only reason we couldn't have a discussion is because you would be out of your league.
America had a great run, but looking around the world today, I see the US Federal Government as an agent of evil, not progress.
All powers grow and fade, the USA's time has come and gone. I predict continued prosperity for the landmass that is North America & its people, but there's no good reason to keep dragging this dead weight called the US Government behind us.
Let's take Ron Paul's 'End the Fed' slogan a step further and End the Federal Government, not just the Federal Reserve.
Creating government jobs that are paid for by private tax payers are all an illusion created by the government and eventually are a larger burden to the highly over taxed public than the unemployed.
This is only going to get worse. It will only stop when society collapses and we start over again. I really don't want to go through a societal collapse, but our lawmakers will never vote on reduced pay for themselves or any other bureaucrat.
The whole gov't has gone berserk with power - employees, rules, regs, taxes and creating an environment where no one can see clear to add jobs or create a new business. Insane.
I love how this guy thinks that making one group poorer will make another group rich in this country. @ToddAldrich They DO. With tax money - the tax money is used by the government to produce.
As to whether a private company could do the job more efficiently, that is debatable, however they would not do it as affordably. Private companies running essential services inevitably gouge consumers and underpay employees to increase profits. Infrastructure costs act as an effective barrier to entry for competitors and you end up with a monopoly that screws you (and you can't vote out).
fluffymcdeath 1 year ago
@fluffymcdeath
One of the biggest barriers of entry is the government.
ToddAldrich 1 year ago 2
@fluffymcdeath: Private pay is so much less than the government sector because people are willing to work for that wage. People are paid by the productivity of their work. This is why someone with a college degree makes more than someone who works in retail. The person with a college degree that works in the services sector makes more because he creates more wealth. Doesn't it say something that government pays twice as much as the private sector and drains the wellbeing of taxpayers?
monkie9me 1 year ago
@monkie9me
"People are paid by the productivity of their work."
Productivity has risen much faster than wages in the US over the past couple of decades so your direct correlation doesn't seem to hold. Based on productivity, private wages should be higher than they are now. Perhaps the downward pressure on wages is better explained by a virtual monopsony in the labour market. (no, I didn't mis-spell that, I really mean "monopsony ").
fluffymcdeath 1 year ago
The problem shown by these charts is that the income of private workers is far too low. Private industry is able to take advantage of the disorganized state of labour to keep wage increases below the cost of living and that is why most Americans make less now than they would have if they worked the same jobs 20 years ago. The difference goes to wealthy investors and owners. The top incomes in the private sector are stratospheric. That's were the wealth is being sucked out of the US.
fluffymcdeath 1 year ago
@fluffymcdeath
This is a flat out lie. In 1990, the average hourly wage of non-supervisory employees was $10.20 as on 2009 it was up to $18.62 - nearly double. - According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That out paced the cost of living by $1.88 per hour.
You liberals REALLY should check your fact before you expose just how ignorant you are.

fredgirardmusic 1 year ago
This guy makes it seem like government employees are the result of the budget deficits and national debt. But that's not true. Salaries are only a very small part of the budget. Social Security and Medicare are going to do us in. The national debt and government workers' salaries are minuscule compared to those obligations.
RalphNelson 1 year ago
@RalphNelson Gee, Ralph, what happens when government workers get larger cost of living increases than the rest of us??? (Think pyramid scheme)
anonymous915 1 year ago
@RalphNelson You need to consider also that cost of living increases for the elderly and disabled, medicare and medicaid are increases for the States, not the individual recipient - the recipient has their benefits cut every time there is a COLA. Without a doubt, the increase goes to the State. Another little known fact is that any benefits anyone does get, the government gets back when the recipient dies; it comes out of their estate.
anonymous915 1 year ago
@RalphNelson - Wrong dumbass!! what he is saying, is that your all part of the fucking problem!!!!...and "social security and medicare" are the creation of the asscpuppets in DC!!!! and are the reason those programs are failing!!!!

You know what this video ends up telling us?
That private sector treats it's workers like shit. That workers in private sector are underpaid, they are fired at whim and their pension plans suck.
This video is pure statist propaganda.

@11thsockpuppet
What video did you just watch? You must be one of the 6 figuirer's in government. I PAY YOUR Salary and you need to be fired! How much did you produce since you were in your government job? What did you give to the GNP? Your comments pretty much make you a leach on society.
Craigy62 1 year ago
@Craigy62 Yeah, but the fact that government employees by definition contribute zero to the GDP and that they are not taxed at all is not stressed at all in this video.
The only thing it does is repeat over and over again that private sector treats it's employees like shit. I am sorry but this video sounds as if it's straight from the CPUSA.

@merchakoful you are not taxed; the good hardworking people in the private sector are taxed to pay for your big fat socialist AFLCIO/SEIU paycheck and pension plan.

Insidious propaganda.
11thsockpuppet 1 year ago
@11thsockpuppet

@MikeLovesPui How dare you! Unions, if you study EPI figures, decrease inequality, Federal Bureaucrats are hated by politicals who don't want them to do any work as Federal employees tell it like it is, and power does not want to hear it.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
By way of introduction, let's start with the unmasked bias of the presenter, who works for a anti-government libertarian "think tank." Over the past 20 years, the Feds outsourced almost all of their unskilled, semi-skilled, and blue and pink collar jobs. The Feds operate predominantly in high cost urban areas with a professional, aging workforce. Comparing "national averages" is crazy. Compare like jobs, in like markets, and like levels of proficiency, and this entire "analysis" crumbles.
finserra1 1 year ago
@finserra1 Great point government eliitist! let's move all government to low cost areas! why should we pay for that crap when the rest of live in low cost areas so we can afford to pay the inflated DC rents and salaries? DC is a war zone now anyway. suggesting one issue for argument does not make the rest of the analysis crumble. How convenient and how typical of an government employed elitist. your days are numbered.

There are many Federal agencies that shouldn't exist that and the lavish benefit packages that go along with them as well as the retirement compensation is hugely bloated as well. The money spent on our military actually needs to be somewhat increased imo though.
