My personal thought on this song and the video is that she wrote it when her marriage was falling apart. "Intellectual songwriters" tend to put whatever emotion they are dealing with in their personal lives into the music they write. I personally feel that as her family was breaking apart, she felt she had messed up somehow-e.g.: "I have sunk so low/I messed up." It's a very literal interpretation of the song, but sometimes the answer is right in front of you.
