  • I have a acceptance letter sitting in my hand from Dartmouth University. I can't go because I pay for all of my college. You learn more with a Liberal Studies degree because it is what you are interested in. One learns better about the topic in question if it fascinates them. I got no scholarships either. My curriculum was very strict towards English and Philosophy.

  • @zjbeast

English and Philosophy are not marketable skills unless you have an Ivy League PHD. How much in student debt do you have? If it is greater than 50k you are fucked! It would have been a better investment to go right to work at McDonalds at 16.

  • @Rockynurse Sorry but there is more to education than making money. I make plenty of money now to live happy. My masters degree is going to make me more than I need. It is called IMC Integrated Marketing Communications (Branch off of English). The smartest people will only learn about what they are interested in. You take in a lot more if you are interested in the topic in question. Like I said you are ignorant or an idiot for not seeing how brilliant Liberal Studies is.

  • @Rockynurse Ignorance is bliss. I would suggest you talk to someone about Liberal Studies and try not to be as rude as they will be a lot more hostile than me.

  • If you want a flawless Liberal Studies Bachalors degree you must give Hilbert College a look in NY. I just graduated and it was the best years of my life. I will definitley be looking at Wesleyan for my masters..

  • @zjbeast LOL

Liberal studies masters degrees are a joke. Most liberal studies students graduate with no real work skills and a hefty student debt sum.

  • @Rockynurse People will only learn if they are interested in the topic in question.. My liberal Studies degree had a LOT of English involved.. It set me up perfectly for my masters in English.. Maybe a Liberal Studies masters but not a Bachelors. People often use these masters programs for more than just "work skills". I used mine for my personal enrichment. I am trying not to take what you said as offensive. Every college is different. Maybe this program is a joke but mine was not.

  • @Rockynurse I am just interested but what is your highest level of education? Please provide proof.

  • @zjbeast

I like the anonymity provided by online posting so I will allude to my identity by providing proof of my education. I will be graduating in a few months with a BA in accounting and joining a national firm. Liberal studies and english graduates have some of the lowest starting salaries. I call these majors pre-poverty.

  • @Rockynurse Yes, A school where you are only a number.. I graduated with an AA in Liberal Arts and a BS in Liberal Studies with minor in Leadership. 4 United States presidents had a BS in Liberal Studies.. I think you have been mislead on exactly how rigerous a Liberal Studies degree is.. I am currently a teacher and when I am done with my Masters I will be getting a job as a college professor. It is already lined up. I think judging someone like you did just proves your ignorance.

  • @zjbeast

Name calling--"idiot", speculation--"a job is lined up", and also irrational thinking "past presidents have been successful with liberal studies so it must be a rigorous degree". It takes more than a masters to become a associate professor at the vast majority of accredited universities. I guess you could be talking about a professor position at Devry or something. Liberal studies masters degrees on average have a negative ROI and student loans are non dischargeable.

  • @Rockynurse I have been going to private schools my whole undergraduate career. I would never pick and prod at someone for going to any kind of school after highschool. Your comments were rude and disrespectful. Be careful who you talk to like that because that person could be your boss someday. I think you need to show how educated you are and read a little more in to what a Liberal Studies degree intails. You are now blocked because I feel this is not worth debating with an idiot..

  • @zjbeast

If you have parents that pay for these expensive private schools or scholarships that cover most expenses that is great. However if you are one of those that must take out loans know this liberal studies degrees are one of the least marketable. If you graduate with 60k debt and a masters in liberal studies you will be in poverty for decades in all likelihood.

  • @Rockynurse I only could take 6 elective classes in my BSLS. I had mandatory English and Philosophy classes that I was forced to take. Along with the normal History and Math classes.

  • AWESOME!!
