The film was very underrated. One of the better films of 2006. If people want stuff blowing up then watch "Bad Boys" or "Transformers". This is Michael MANN, not Michael Bay.
I think the Movie is ok if you don´t have the original on your mind. I reckon Michael Mann is a great movie/series director. But in my opinion CF and JF are trying to hard in the new movie. The are trying to much to be cool and hard. The original Crockett and Tubbs were cool in a cool way. The original is just soooo good in every single way.
I like manns directing and shooting style. This film was a mistake though, you should never make a film after a successful tv series. Miami vice was about summing up 80's miami and that decade with the songs and such. Plus you see the characters develop over time unlike in a film. There was no chemistry between farrel and fox I was greatly disappointed. Manns masterpieces are Heat and this series.

This film is serious, dark, grim and realistic, with a great job of director, and very beautiful photo and wonderful soundtrack. Excellent production, I think one of the best thrillers I've ever seen.
@UuTube2 you are absolutely right, those were horrific remakes. But this remake did not have a chance with a cast like this, you could see the crap result right from the time they announced the line up.

The makers did an awesome job of recreating the vibe and feel of the show.
However, I didn't care for Jamie Fox as as Tubbs but Colin was fair choice and I thought their was too much sex in the movie with crockett. I would've also preffered a more traditional Lt Castillo. Not sure what they were thinking there.

The new film was fantastic. It had a modern vibe and was a great serious police drama. Sorry to the schmucks who need something to blowup every 15 minutes to keep them entertained.

The movie was a disaster.
Tubbs' grenade trick was a joke and blowing up shit was frankly ridiculous.
A good part of the movie was blatantly stolen from the series (the drop and the cop with the bomb around her neck).
At the end 'Crockett' helps a wanted drug cartel leader escape to Cuba. He commits a federal felony just because he'd been sleeping with her.
The movie was a farce and an insult to Michael Mann, Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas.
