I would like to know some of the history of this situation. I mean is the army presence to keep the communist Chinese or Muslim faction from infiltrating and taking over the country as was done by the Chinese who easily invaded and overtook the country of Tibet?

just a short response to amiccki's invitation to come not as a tourist but to stay and learn, I presume they know if they live in Manipur that it is a restricted area so foreigners may not enter directly. I have a visa for India but it excludes restricted areas. There is a way of applying to visit a restricted area but then I may enter only grouped with other foreigners accompanied by a guide (travel agent will do) and for a limited time. Restrictions still apply when you have a visa to enter.
