Just for everyone's info, PBS radio play a lot of Eva's songs. Altho I am basically a C&W fan, my dial stays on PBS station so I can be transported by Eva singing. I'm an old man of 75, but Eva's voice moves me like no other has. The other day, they played Eva's version of Danny Boy - and I had to pull over because I could no longer see the road.
It doesn't have to be mine to ask such a simple question-
I think if people ask you to buy a cd of a deceased person it is reasonable to know where the profits are going, not to sideline this amazing artist, and the great works she produced

we all have Terry Wogan who was a DJ on radio 2 in the UK for first playing her song on his radio show. nobody had heard of her here until then. after he played it everybody loved her. she was a remarkable singer. and it's a shame that she didn't receive the recognition she deserved when she was alive to enjoy it. but thanks to Wogan, she is now known world wide and rightly so. her performance of Wonderful World 2 months before she died is heartbreaking, simply beautiful.
I love Eva Music she was a very clever lady and I soak up every song. I have a new wonderful surprise for you. Kate Rusby sings in a similar way. She sings about her past and she sings about her family, if you like Eva you will like Kate.
LIsten to any Eva song just once and she pulls you in, very very few artists have that ability. A friend introduced me to Eva about 10 years ago, and I've been in love with her ever since. This song literally brings me to tears every time I listen to it. I'm so glad her precious gift didn't die when she passed from this world. I hope it continues to grow and reach more and more people.

I always liked Judy Collins' version of this song, but Eva's is something special. Several years ago, I nearly died from surgical complications. The two albums I purchased when I made it home were Beth Neilsen Chapman's "Sand and Water," and Eva's "Songbird." I cherish them every day.
How ironic that this angel should find fame only after her death, how lucky for those of us that have come to love her that we can await new music from her. The Lord really does work in mysterious ways& I for one know that I will definitely meet her one day for she lives in my soul, may God bless you for you are home now.~sjhgm1!

First time I heard Eva singing was a broadcast of the BBC documentry on the radio of my car as I was driving home in Nelson New Zealand. I had to stop the car because the tears of joy and sadness were making it impossilble to continue driving...
BTW, I lived at Mill Creek in Big Sur for 14 years in the 70’s and 80’s before buying a sailboat, cruising the Pacific for 17 years, and washing ashore here in New Zealand. I still dream of Big Sur, wild beauty and solitude like no other place on earth.

A new Eva Cassidy album entitled "Simply Eva" will be released at the end of January 2011. It is an acoustic album of Eva and her guitar. I have always been enchanted with a story Eva's mom, Barbara Cassidy, tells about Eva singing on the rooftop of the hotel where they were staying in Greece. A few minutes into Eva's impromptu concert, people of the village gathered in nearby windows to listen. This CD will give Eva's fans the opportunity to be on that rooftop.
Thanks for the beautiful photos on video - makes me want to visit central California! & thanks for sharing this great track, its not on any of the Eva Cassidy Cd's I have, so a real "find" for me. She was in a class of her own, saddly taken from us far too soon - great that her music lives on for us to enjoy. A big thumbs up from the UK.

I grew up on the Central Coast of Kali - so I was raised on rare beauty. As a teenager I feasted on the best images NASA, the world's artists and poets could give. So I am used to beauty in the extreme. But every single time, Eva makes me avert my eyes and bawl like a baby. There is beauty, and there is who she remains. The difference makes me dump all my sodium on my keyboard. I don't believe in Saints. But Eva is a Saint.

This version is different from the version Eva sings in Imagine cd. Although I myself prefer the one in Imagine Cd this one has a personal interpretation by Eva, she sings it differently from the original song

She's an incomparable modern pop singer. She ranks probably in the top 10 female singers in the 30 years from '60-'89s by the fact that what she sings is hers and hers alone. She needed no backup; no finagling of tape; just pure sound. Listeners why would you want backup singers when Eva was there?. I have no doubt she could sing in any style.
I much prefer Eva's and Holly Kirby's versions of this song to the Sandy Denny version. They have such beautiful pure voices and they move me every time I hear them.

You got that right. However there are a few, and I do mean few bands, that might have promise if they can stay sober long enough. The Zutons come to mind but they've a way to full flushing out.
Beautiful Eva died in 1996, from melanoma, the most deadly form of skin cancer. Her music was little-known during her 33 years of life, but today her soul-stirring voice is reaching people all over the world.
I've been a Sandy Denny fan for 30 years and Who Knows... is my favourite song by her, so I'm always a little skeptical when I hear of someone covering this song. But I have to say Eva did the song justice, her cover is beautiful. I would go so far as to say it's almost as good as the Sandy Denny/Fairport version, and there's no higher praise than that.

I first heard this song sung by Judy Colllns and fell in love with the songs elegant and powerful simplicity. And it didn't hurt that Stephen Stills played some beautiful guitar on it. I later heard the original Fairport Convention version with Sandy Denny's (another great singer taken much too soon) gentle and vulnerable phrasing and ornamentation and came to appreciate the song even more.
Eva's version is like a combination of the two and her command of her voice continues to astound me.
Actualy, Fairport Convention didn't do it first ~ Sandy sung it on her album with The Strawbs a year before she joined Fairport Convention, but that version was a faster tempo, so not as classic and beautiful as FC.
When I first heard Eva's cover, I knew this song was meant to be sung by her ~ as if she was touched by some of Sandy's magic when she sang it :)
Sandy Denny's songs always touch something inside of me and Eva Cassidy's version is no less beautiful than Sandy's various versions. There are two lights missing in this world with them both gone. But the songs still remain...

I find it so hard to believe that America turned such a "deaf" ear to this Lady's beautiful Voice. Europe and the rest of the World is so far ahead of America when it comes to "Real" music that I don't think America will ever catch up until Rap & Hip Hop are dead. With our culture now that's not going to happen.

Eva was truly one of kind both as a person and a performer. I was so fortunate to have seen her perform live on many occassions...A talent that went un-noticed by so many when she was alive..but now becoming a Star in Europe..She still relatively unknown in her own native America. What ashame!

I like most of the 'versions' of this beautiful song, as long as some idiot don't 'punk it up', I'll love it, no matter who sings it.

I grew up on the Central Coast of Kali - so I was raised on rare beauty. As a teenager I feasted on the best images NASA, the world's artists and poets could give. So I am used to beauty in the extreme. But every single time, Eva makes me avert my eyes and bawl like a baby. There is beauty, and there is who she remains. The difference makes me dump all my sodium on my keyboard. I don't believe in Saints. But Eva is a Saint.

This version is different from the version Eva sings in Imagine cd. Although I myself prefer the one in Imagine Cd this one has a personal interpretation by Eva, she sings it differently from the original song

She's an incomparable modern pop singer. She ranks probably in the top 10 female singers in the 30 years from '60-'89s by the fact that what she sings is hers and hers alone. She needed no backup; no finagling of tape; just pure sound. Listeners why would you want backup singers when Eva was there?. I have no doubt she could sing in any style.

I much prefer Eva's and Holly Kirby's versions of this song to the Sandy Denny version. They have such beautiful pure voices and they move me every time I hear them.

I've been a Sandy Denny fan for 30 years and Who Knows... is my favourite song by her, so I'm always a little skeptical when I hear of someone covering this song. But I have to say Eva did the song justice, her cover is beautiful. I would go so far as to say it's almost as good as the Sandy Denny/Fairport version, and there's no higher praise than that.

I first heard this song sung by Judy Colllns and fell in love with the songs elegant and powerful simplicity. And it didn't hurt that Stephen Stills played some beautiful guitar on it. I later heard the original Fairport Convention version with Sandy Denny's (another great singer taken much too soon) gentle and vulnerable phrasing and ornamentation and came to appreciate the song even more.
Eva's version is like a combination of the two and her command of her voice continues to astound me.

Actualy, Fairport Convention didn't do it first ~ Sandy sung it on her album with The Strawbs a year before she joined Fairport Convention, but that version was a faster tempo, so not as classic and beautiful as FC.
When I first heard Eva's cover, I knew this song was meant to be sung by her ~ as if she was touched by some of Sandy's magic when she sang it :)

The more I listen to her the more I realize just how soothing and relaxing her Voice really is.
I find it so hard to believe that America turned such a "deaf" ear to this Lady's beautiful Voice. Europe and the rest of the World is so far ahead of America when it comes to "Real" music that I don't think America will ever catch up until Rap & Hip Hop are dead. With our culture now that's not going to happen.

Eva was truly one of kind both as a person and a performer. I was so fortunate to have seen her perform live on many occassions...A talent that went un-noticed by so many when she was alive..but now becoming a Star in Europe..She still relatively unknown in her own native America. What ashame!
