the elastics also have a similar effect to skating on inline skates, where there's no edges to dig into the surface and you're not supposed to even use an outside edge because it affects your balance.

I'm sorry to say so but it is not true ,not everybody can become a great skater.Most of them simply incapable to learn skate backwards, not to mention other things..

The only thing I dislike on these videos that some movements had been SPEEDED UP. Which is a bit funny.Anyways this guy is very-very good if you see him don't mess with him,- he would eat you alive on the ice :-)

Actually, I've played on a high school varsity team since freshman year, was second top scorer on my team last year and have been drafted for a Junior B team earlier this year.

I don't believe in the "I can't do it" excuse unless it's coming from someone with a real disability. You CAN do it if you do it right, though getting it right requires practice and dedication, you have to want it.

Skating is the number 1 skill from which to build hockey talent and skill. If you can't skate, you can't play hockey. Wayne Gretzky wasn't the greatest skater but he's surely the exception. Sidney Crosby is a phenomenal skater, and he owes much of his success to that ability.

The fella in this video is no figure skater, skills like that take you far in hockey. The fact that he does it with a skick in his hand makes it obvious he didn't learn to skate like that in public skating!

Hockey ain't only about skill and scoring, guys who were in the high levels of this sport would know. It takes strength and endurance to play high level hockey. Having Legs like Napoleon Dynamite and magic hands will certainly get you killed in high competitive hockey with checking!!! Thats why it's important to have good strong legs and know your Blade inside and out.

any negative posters i have read so far obviously have not gone through a "AA" or higher level practice. Enca91,, Atlknightshcky and others,, play the game and go through a few of these drills before you spew!!! Pretty easy to see you have no hockey background lol

1.a good stride

2.know how to play as a team and to take a check

Ill bet there are many NHL players who could not do those drills without having time to practice them. no one ever skates backwards like that or sidways or one one leg going down the Ice. Im not to sure I would spend my time working on useless skills If it was sme I would spend my time playing. My son is an 8yo AAA player and after watching these a few months ago he can now do every one of these drills and his favorite is the one turn with his back foot pionted the wrong way. I know players much older who can't do that. So, thank you to "perfect skater" for posting the video.
