The 2007 Si model has an extremely high red line of about 8000rpm (correct me if im wrong). When it comes to acceleration of the line its good but in the end it's gutless; it can't live up to the growl of that DOHC 2.8L V6 sex machine. The Si is a beefless burger, like the one on those old Wendy's commercials. Where's the beef? Well i think we found it, in the VR6.
In terms of off the line acceleration the GTI should be faster, more torque (207) at a lower rpm (1800 I think) as compared to the Type R which only has 142 ft lbs of torque at 6500 rpm. They have identical horsepower.
But I have a GSR and in my experience if I keep the rpm above 3500, then I kill my friends MK3 VR6 in rolling acceleration. Maybe because the VR6 is like 200 lbs heavier. But yeah his definitely has more grunt and pulls harder above 100 kmph. But that makes sense considering the size of the engine. VTEC is just so responsive in high rpm.
ya thats true vtec is very ersponsive at higher rpm, i think the VR6 has more than than 200 hp though because the gti mk5 has 200 and it's a 2.0L turbo engine. I think the German's rat their hp lower than what it actualy is because a porche 911 turbo that weighs as much as a dodge viper but has less hp has very similar 0-60 times.
Maybe the 911's weight distribution is better and therefore it can accelerate as fast. Also maybe the gear ratio is ideal for off the line acceleration. I would have thought that if anything companies like VW would overate their cars hp in hopes of increasing the "hot hatch" coolness factor..

If the VR6 did beat the Honda, which was NOT a Type R,it was a very hollow victory because that EG civic came with a 1.6 litre engine.
