I am sorry but this is the first and only periodic video that gave me less than I expected. For example you could have shown the beautiful color of Potassium Permanganate and its power as an oxidizer. In fact, why don't you do a whole video about KMnO4, since it's an interesting compound and you don't have a video about it yet, do you?
The professor is mistaking. I guess tereftalic acid is used to make PET, however, water bottles are made of PE. Coca Cola (and other drinks with gas) bottles are made of PET, because PE can't contain the CO2 in Coca Cola.
Interesting way to present Mn. 10mg is the amount normally occurring in humans. Supplements, if taken at all (some like it for sleep support) should, therefore, never exceed 10mg.
Neurotoxic? So are ethanol, about half a dozen widely consumed liqueurs, and sufficient concentrations of glucose. I don't see anyone hopping up and down to ban them.
When it comes to toxicity, keep the panic in perspective to other exposures.
...er... 'one of the main uses for manganese at the moment is for increasing the amount of free-radicals in our bodies.' ...leeched from plastic bottles and from bunt fuels.
Have you seen manganese metal dropped in dilute hydrochloric acid? It starts modestly as the oxide coating is eaten away then when mostly metal is left the reaction REALLY gets moving! Room temperature 16% HCl gets the beaker too hot to touch(about 60 Celsius) in mere seconds! I would say manganese is definately more reactive than zinc but only slightly less than magnesium.
This metal IS neurotoxic as, when burned forms manganese tetroxide. It is used as a fuel additive for lowering smoke output and giving a higher octane rating but higher toxicity too. You can buy it over the counter to add to your petrol and you might get better mpg. It clogs up catalytic converters though so beware! Its in jet aircraft fuel too... so planes give us neurotoxic skies...nice eh?
Yeah, I know that it affects the brain and the neural cells, but lol, in Jet Fuels? Fuckers....that's why we're exposed to all this amount of "new" diseases and people are getting more alergic as mankind evolves, we do not research nothing about the impacts of what we discover and transform from the nature.
Although the amount needed to cause a disease from Mn metal is high(compared to Pb or Hg), It does cause impact, but does the Mn accumulates in the human body like Pb and Hg, or not?
The research papers I have read state that it does accumulate in our bodies and is difficult/impossible to shift. Its yet another free radical and nothing like the manganese we absorb from our foods. Without going into the biology/chemistry free radical damage or destroy everything they come into contact with including DNA. High levels of metals in our body are bad especially if inhaled. Parkinsons is the result of overexposure... This one of many additives in fuels.
amazing guys seriously please DONT STOP MAKING THEM!
I want to learn how pythagoreanism can apply to chemistry , its all harmony and proportion of the symphonic and musical spheres (yin and yang) implosive and explosive dominant orders of vibrations , teach us!
The manganese metal i have is pretty strange, it looks a bit like a rock and a metal at the same time. Manganese are one of the strangest metals i have met through my way to the other elements.
why for that water bottle display?

Manga's are made from this element :D

it missed the most important use of manganese: to be used for making special purpose steel.

Is it normal for chemistry teachers to collect water bottles or something?
My chemistry teacher has a collection too.

It's clear that this is a non-toxic metal.

manganese can be found in old batterys? I'll go scrape off the battery acid off the cupboard then... I hate batteries.

@barkulator You have Japanese comics tattooed on your knees?

@DrD0000M No. He had surgery to make his knees look like the knees of manga characters, due to his younger days as an otaku.
