We are replacing the downpipe on my 95 powerstroke but dont wanna hammer the body out of the way and was thinkin about just having the pipe re-routed out of the hood. The truck is a total work truck and DD so i dont give a shit what it looks like. i was just wondering would you be losing any with such a short exhaust? or would it not be effected at all?
@mayonnaisehater13 You're talking about a hood stack? Dont do that man. First of all its illegal. Second, it would be annoying as hell. Since this video Ive ran a 7" stack, 6" stack, and side exit exhaust on this truck. I finally got tired of the noise and put a full 4" system on it. Also, custom tunes, wheels, tires, shit like that.

you make fun of "ricers" and gut your cat? do you not know anything? thoses "ricers" know that a gutted cat loses power because it causes loss of back pressure and ussually a vortex in the exhaust.
you seriously don't know anything about turbo-diesels. they don't need backpressure after the turbo, since thats where we get our backpressure. I could dump the exhaust at teh downpipe, and wouldnt lose any performance.
Most guys take their cat off completely, but I choose to put on a gutted one because it was free.
all exhaust need backpressure. the guys who get rid of there cat have a delete that is same size pipe as the exhaust to keep stable flow through the system. when a vortex is created in the exhaust it robs power. yes dumping the exhaust at the downpipe is just like using open headers. i do know. i work in a shop on a daily basis. i helped build a duramax 6.6 with 854hp and 1233fttq. its the same for any exhaust. any turbo. any vehicle.
@mathewdylang The more back pressure you can eliminate, the faster your spool time will be, which in turn means you'll make your power, faster. I really don't follow your logic when you say its the same for any exhaust. N/A thrives on back pressure, a F/i does not, the more back pressure you get rid of, the better off you will be. Trust me, I'm 19 and have owned 3 turbo cars, and a 95' f350.. Hopefully you can follow that logic.
@JRebble01 I understand that completely. Yes getting rid of back pressure allows for faster flow, faster spool, easier power, but when you hollow out the catalytic converter and/or have different sizes in exhaust piping, from small to large back to small, it creates an imbalance in flow and pressure, also known as a vortex, creating more back pressure than the cat did in the first place. understand the logic?
@mathewdylang yeah, as a rule you want it to go from small to big. but yes, jumping back and forth does create an imbalance, i call it turbulance, you call it a vortex. same thing i suppose. But when i read your OP it made it sound like you wanted everyone to know that turbo vehicles NEED backpressure. in reality they just need to smoothly exhale as much as possible =D.. nice chat.. -jrebble
I have heard that the stock muffler flows better than most aftermarket mufflers, does the truck sound much louder in real life since you gutted the cat?
get rid of the muffler and leave the cat, then get a tip, it will sound so awesome flooring it. type in 7.3 powerstroke straight pipe, they sounds awesome
You need to get Ride of the superchips and get a DP TUNER. TRUST ME. Its Better. And your truck sounds good but i say go to a 4 or 5 inch get ride of the muffler and cat back then you will definaltey like what you HEAR.
whats up taylor, ya the dp does make a difference you can feel it accelerate faster, but the nastiest sound is with a 4'' straight piped system like mine! check it out
exactly how hard was it to install this?
