I'm voting for Barack Obama because I KNOW that whenever he speaks at events that it's his own words and NOT a speech writer's.
I also feel very secure with that given fact so our country could just be inviting terrorists in because that could be Obama's real thoughts that he doesn't say. :)
I was interested until she started talking about her faith in Obama. C'mon people, we don't know what he will do until he is in office. That's why it is better to be reserved when listening to politicians. Obama claims he is going to bring the troops back, but until Iraq is stable enough we can't do that and if we just left, then that'd be billions of dollars wasted. Vietnam was a waste of money. All I'm saying is wait before you go off the end as she is doing.
EVERY DOLLAR (and life) wasted in Iraq has DAMAGED the US, not benefited it.
And the US will leave behind an ally of Shia Iran NO MATTER WHAT or WHEN, not an ally of Sunni Al Qaeda (McCain's dumb comments in Jordan notwithstanding).
You can say all you want, but you're only speaking theories. You don't know McCain or Barack nor how they will be. Just b/c you do elect Barack for president does not mean the war will end, even end during his presidency. It takes a while to end a war (look at Afghanistan, we're still there) and you're putting your faith in Barack simply b/c you've had 8 years of Republican. All I'm saying is don't get your hopes up, Barack would more than 4 yrs to prove a worthy president.
Johnson's cronies gained from Vietnam, and Cheney's from Iraq - while the PEOPLE pay.
AFGHANISTAN is where the War On Terror should have been waged 100% - campaign was weakened by Iraq war.
The US duty to remain in Iraq is only TO IRAQIS, and only BECAUSE OF the War. There NEVER WAS an intrinsic US interest in waging war in Iraq, nor in staying there now.
The US is IN BIG TROUBLE, and only a SMART President can rescue it.
Again, you're not even hitting the surface of it. America would've been in Iraq regardless of the president being democratic, republican. The war was for oil and, speaking from a competitive perspective, we should have control if we want to stay ahead in power. It is wrong, but c'mon the gov. in general is screwy and evil anyway. Obama won't get the troops out of Iraq. You can count on it. You ignore what Clinton did in Bosnia. Democrats isn't the answer. A good president is.
The "people" pay? Are you serious? LOL. As long as there is motive for control, the "people" will always pay. We don't matter when it comes to war. Afghanistan was a meaningful war, but you got terrorists in the STATES as well! There was ALWAYS an interest in waging in Iraq. It didn't happen by accident. 9/11 happened, Saddam had nothing to do with it yet we go to Iraq. All these wars are thought out and planned, man. WAKE UP from dreamland- the gov. isn't out to serve people. only itself.
Give me 5 reasons why you support Obama, those 5 reasons having nothing to do with the war, and also those 5 things being absolutely certain (things like lower taxes is just candy speak b/c everyone says that and it doesn't count). Give me 5 concrete things Obama will do and nothing he has promised to do. Tell me why you believe in this guy so much.
Well, I apologize for coming down a few steps to talk to you. I thought we were discussing politics and you come up with a subject change. I assumed you were in support of Obama, since you bashed McCain, despite the fact that neither has yet to be president but I was obviously wrong. Thanks for wasting my time with your pointless, spam-like drivel.
Those homes were built for "New Orleans" musicians/residents that lost their "homes". They were NOT built for people who moved there from DC and rented an apartment for a few months. This point is perfectly clear and you CANNOT deny that. The mortgage you claim to pay is hardly a mortgage at all. It is an interest free mortgage for "victims" and there is no labor costs factored in because the home is built by Habitat. You are NOT from New Orleans and it is clear that you have abused the system.
Margie Perez - you are so blessed to be able to tell the world what happened to you and to represent New Orleans. Go baby! And I can't wait to see what other doors are open to you so that you can share the love that you have for this country and it's people.
Margie babe, you were great. You made the crowd come to life after they had fallen asleep. As for those on here who say negative things, they are not worth your time or words. They obviously are not intelegent enough to even listen to what you said.
For the morons posting moronic comments here: Get a life. Margie is not "pawning herself," you idiot. She said clearly in the speech that she moved to New Orleans in 2004, which she did. She is not getting a "handout," as residents of the Musicians Village pay rent, just like everyone else. And she used the word "tribe" in a symbolic manner. She grabbed a hula hoop as a comedic thing. Gawd, if you can't say something nice here, then don't say anything at all. Don't post moron comments, please.
THANKS for writing that! I just signed in to do the same. you save me time! Margie is my friend and i am proud of her.
I know Very well what happened to the place Margie was living in pre Katrina and i know that she has worked very hard to earn her place in new orleans and on that stage.
I think they put her up there because she speaks well and the white voters would like her. Most people won't look past the surface and see the truth. She shouldn't be complaing about the last eight years because she got a free house out of the deal.....
Thanks to those that have sent kind words. As for you "poolcoconut" you are obviously a misinformed hater with anger issues. My Habitat Home was not free. I bought it myself and every month I pay my mortgage I rejoice in the fact that I work my ass off to pay for it. And as for all my gigs, you obviously don't know what it's like to be a musician in New Orleans. I report my gig money and pay my taxes (and no I don't claim the EITC) That's why I qualified for the house. Get a life.
She is not from New Orleans, she is from Washington D.C. She is pawning herself off as a New Orleans artist and Katrina victim to shamlessly promote herself and get handouts and free housing in the musicians village. And WTF does she mean by tribe? She doesnt look like a Choctaw indian. Visit her myspace page, you can see that she has alot of gigs. Why does she need handouts. All that gig money is under the table and tax free and you dont have to show an income. This is worse than welfare fraud!
We used to call evacuations "hurri-cations" bc they were like mini-vacations at the last minute. Margie's grab for the hula hoop shows the positive outlook so many residents used to have. An outlook that was based in false trust & neglected security. It also gives an idea of how unprepared so many residents were left amidst this terrible, preventable disaster. The levees should've been repaired long ago. Thousands died bc the govt didn't care to properly fund a poor, southern, black city.
omg - sheeps!
