  • For some reason, as a kid watching my brother play this game, watching the little Yoshi eggs bouncing along always made me giggle. Don't know why, but even after all these years, it's still pretty cute. :)

Of course, any game can be funny and adorable when Raocow plays it. XD

  • I'm sorry to ask, but where did you get this hack? I can't find it anywhere and I really wanna try it.

  • "It's the skelleton model with that particular mutation that survived." That just makes perfect sense!

  • Awesome. I did like it. On to the next series! :)

  • Wait, did he say "rapscallion", or "raft-scallion"? On the Blaarg bit? That was funny either way.

  • @Saestrol rapscallion

  • Ahh Luigi always second banana.

  • Aw, no L+R+Up Shuffle?

  • everytime mr raocow finishes a project i think i'll never see a video of him again, especially when i read the description. i really like you, mr raocow.

  • 5:45 EVRY DAY IM SHUFFILIN'

  • I'm just going to assume those MechaKoopas that Bowser throws don't give points, that would make the castle ascetically possible.

  • @jeffsvilleusa So you mean that Nintendo actually FORSAW the crazy self-imposed challenges we've come up with?!?! That's insane developing skills!

  • Door four was the one I always did, up until I started doing all of them each time.

  • FWOOPS!! I slipped and fell~

  • I chose 2/8 too! Anyway, I really enjoyed this series.

  • Raocow, you said yourself, Food is things you eat!

  • The one dislike is Luigi.

  • @kwuganator And two dislikes are from Luigi and Bowser.

  • @kwuganator NOT.

  • Really, Luigi? Haven't you already done enough? After all that, how can you even DARE to return? You think you're so smug, you think we don't know. But we do, Luigi, we do. And every day you remain here, you dig your own grave one more inch...

  • There's hopping statues in Roy's Castle.

  • Hey you forgot to do the secret hidden (70+) 9th doors acesticly

  • how is it that your voice from 2007 is deeper then it is now?

  • That credits music is the most nostalgic game song to me, cause SMW is the first game I've ever beaten.

  • When I first beat this I warped from star world and beat bowser's castle then beat the rest of the game later on

  • In case no one made the joke before, this was ascetically pleasing

  • Very good job. I always took 3 and 8. I think the jumping statue was in either Wendy's castle or Forest Fortress

  • lol... Yup, that was a fun playthrough to watch. ^^ Brought back a lot of memories of when I was little, as it was my very first video game, and I was 3! XD

  • 9:07 Raocow, have you forgotten what is food? It is something that you eat!

What is food, something? What is something, food!

  • YAY for Mario's porn stash!

  • Did not expect Mario to call it porn stache. Good times

  • Hey, I remember that there are a couple enemies in the game that are missing from the end credit sequence, but I don't remember what they are. Could someone let me know, please?

  • why is raocow so awesome ?! it shouldn't be humanly possible.

  • Luigi ruined Raocow's childhood.

    Can you /believe/ that?

  • Luigi just ruined this entire run for me with his smugness... Douche.

  • is the japanese hack A2MT?

  • @gamefan6219

...A2MT is a "Western" romhack and is nowhere near finished.

  • This lp is up there with my fave raocow lps! thank you raocow :D

  • H-h-h-h-h-h-hyper 6??? LOL Idk just the fact that it's Japanese I'm excited! This was also a LOT more fun than I thought it'd be, but I think I say that for every project I'm unsure of.

  • I really enjoyed watching this series.

For one the nostalgia aspect, for another the ascetic part was in parts (especially the special world) pretty rad to watch!

  • And I seriously searched "swan hunting" ...

  • You're this reading comment wrong

  • jeffsvilleusa I know where u saw that

  • EVERYDAY I'M SHUFFILIN'

  • Gotta say I loved the Luigi talk at the end ^.^

  • Dude, raocow! You forgot to do the ninth door!

  • I wish raocow would do commentary for movies

  • My favorite parts of this ascetic run was hearing stories about when you were a kid, like what parts used to give you problems and not being able to figure out the secret paths to some levels.

  • You have no idea what is food? But you made a song about it!

  • Honey Bowser don't give a gruff!

  • Yay! Hapanese JOM-hacks!

  • Princess Peach is now known as Helpman to me.

  • Pricess gotta walk all crab-like. Like walking to the side... pretty princess-like

  • I fail to see the problem with Dayv's name.

  • So when you hit door three, I wondered why you weren't jumping on the robo-ducks, and then I remembered this was an ascetic run, and I felt like a dolt. The one episode you don't remind us what ascetic is and I forget it's ascetic. So your reminders were helping one person at least. >.> Great run though Raocow.

  • Let us psychologically analyze people by which doors of Bowser's Castle they took as children. I always went 3/6.

  • 12:54 "Well, then, Mario, you're trying to be so fancy with your big old belly and porn stash!"

  • Now I'm all curious as to what kind of history you have with Luigi. What did he do to inspire such a reaction?

  • I was expecting to see the 9th door.

  • Hey guys, I apologize I am not a native french speaker or anything. I was just wondering what does "rao" mean. I mean I have heard raocow say "A cow doesn't rao!" which kinda tells me it's a french verb. I was just wondering if it has any meaning or if it's just a mixture of letters.

  • @InadamentFilms Pretty sure it's not a French thing. It ain't in my Becherelle, anyway.

  • @InadamentFilms It's not a French word (or his name wasn't derived from the word, if it is). It started out as "raor" (a purposeful misspelling of "roar"). Then, raocow wanted to name a chalk drawing "Mr. Raor" but forgot the last "r", so it was "Mr. Rao". raocow found this hilarious, and used "Rao" as his internet name. This got changed to "rao!". When he registered for SA, "rao!" was taken, so he added "cow" on the end. Saying "A cow that doesn't rao!" is just a play on his name.

  • Jackie Chan's Wikipedia page doesn't mention that he is actually Shigeru Miyamoto. Thanks for clearing that up, Raocow. I will go edit his Wikipedia page now.

  • I had to rewatch that bit where raocow talks about boo block and blue block, because I thought he was comparing boo block and boob lock.

  • The whole 'ascetic' challenge what was make this LP enjoyable. :) I wouldn't mind more of these!

  • I nostalgia'd so hard with this credit sequence D:

  • Anyone else notice that it looks like peach a big brown beard

  • Key Boss? ;D

  • @monkyman113 /watch?v=vhDg1pyXP1U

  • @ColonelRashid it's a meme at this point. When raocow finishes a project people go "key boss!?"

  • (15:12) Wow, all this time I never noticed that the green Mask Koopa had the wrong colored hat!

  • Seeing these levels again I noticed how far away most of the 9th door entries were.

  • Totally just noticed that last firework cloud was a heart.

    D'aaaaaaawww.

  • Spoilers in the title D:

  • Koji Kondo isn't that well-known? News to me.

  • This was very fun to watch.

  • WHOOOOOOOOOOOPS I SEEM TO HAVE SLIPPED AND FELL.

  • Taken from interview with Shigeru Miyamoto in 1991...

    Q. What is your on-going philosophy about making video games?

    A. Challenge for the player is the most important thing. In the Mario games for example, the player can go back and try to finish the game without collecting a single coin. I think great video games are like favorite playgrounds, places you become attached to and go back to again and again. Wouldn't it be great to have a whole drawer full of "playgrounds" right at your finger tips?

  • I love that, incidently. Part of me thinks he designede some of the SMW levels with that in mind, just as a "just in case" situation.

  • @jeffsvilleusa He's right. I've found myself to make up own challenges in games, not using that specific weapon/powerup, not taking that warp, not killing anything and so on. Mario games are great for those challenges. :)

  • @jeffsvilleusa Oh dude thats an awesome quote.

  • dayv brooks dayv brooks haha

  • It's time to do Super Mario World Survival !!

  • Aww :) this was fun

  • So can anyone tell me if Fishing Fish Guy's sprite is supposed to be mouthless or not? All these years I've always looked at him like that's his lip, but just now I noticed it might actually be his hand.

  • ...Huh. I only just noticed the joke with the Clown Car.

Anyway, this was pretty awesome. Always good to see classic SMW, but now I'm all excited for the next one.

  • Peach looks... REALLY weird... *shutters*

Also, what's this about a 9th door? Is it a ROM hack thing?

  • @nintendork64 smwcentral [dot] net had a contest for it's users to make a "room" (although most ended up doing a whole level) that could fit as the secret 9th door of bowser's castle and they only had 24 hours to do so. then raocow did an LP of all 86 entries. it was a thing

  • There's just something weird about hearing raocow say "Chargin' Chuck" instead of "Charlie." I don't like it. It's scary.

  • @TheGangstagnome Chargin' Chuck is just a scary and dumb name.

  • 00:11 wait what? after years of playing iv'e still missed an exit somewhere? ... well time to start searching.

  • @ZeroFireZX:

If you've been through the whole game and you're still missing an exit, there's a good chance it's in Forest of Illusion 1, Forest Ghost House, or one of the first four Star World levels, because it's possible to have all of the paths formed and still be missing an exit from one of those levels.

  • @SomeGuy712x Ok thanks, I found it in Star World 4. Never did like that level.

  • Random fact:

In Europe the game amaricans call Super Mario USA is called Super Mario Bros. 2 and the japanese SMB2 is called Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels.

  • @HarmfulGravemind It's called Super Mario Bros. 2 here as well, but it's not a Super Mario Bros. game in that Nintendo took a different game, re-sprited it, and called it Super Mario Bros. 2. I would assume because the REAL SMB2 (which gets called Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels in the US) was deemed "too hard" for Western audiences.

  • @OpDDay2001 The full story is that Doki Doki Panic originally started as a Mario game, before being turned into a licensed game (and then later turned back into a mario game). The japanese SMB2 had no involvement from Miyamoto. Also it's pretty much a shitty romhack with cheap and unfair level design.

  • @HarmfulGravemind It's called Super Mario Bros. 2 in the USA.

  • @HarmfulGravemind Actually that's what it's called in North America, too. The Japanese version of Doki Doki Mario is called Super Mario USA.

  • @capefeather ah, well it is as they say, you learn something new every day! Thanks for telling me this new random fact!

  • 15:12 When did these guys with the mario faces appear in the original game? Does that have anything to do with this "ascetic hack"?

  • @schonka2 That happens if you beat the special world.

  • "Programmer" is PRO GRAMMAR, alllll riiiight.

Nice run, I'm glad someone really provided a hack to make this more possible than simply do it by word and on the honor system. That made it a lot more enjoyable seeing actual results from 'failing' as opposed to just restarting. Might have been awkward otherwise, as difficult as a few levels were.

  • 12:58 - Porn Stash? Like dirty movies? I knew Mario was dirty, crawling through sewer pipes and all, but this is news to me!

  • Oh man it's bowser at the end that's so lame .-.

  • Really, Luigi?

  • Hey Raocow, you like Mario games, right? Well I got a very good one for you! Trust me, you'll LOVE it! It's in the internet though, but it doesn't stop it from being a good game! You'll find it right here:

Well apparently youtube comment section doesn't like links :/ I'll private message it instead then xD

  • Dry Bones: "Every day I'm shufflin!"

  • I think I stuck with 2 and 7 when playing.

  • I always thought that if Raocow was a Mario character he'd be Luigi.

I mean I don't know, there's no logic or precedent to this. I just thought, man, if Raocow was a Mario character, Luigi fits him more than Mario. He's the Luigi kinda guy.

  • FUCKING REALLY LUIGI?

  • i loved it raocow =D and im lookin forward to teh japanese hack. after all youre just the silliest goose of all <3 <3

  • why wasn't the pokey replacement in the end sequence thing?

  • @BacuChan The Pokey replacement was only in the GBA version.

  • @raocow 14:04 it's called bunting, geeze

  • Why'd he skip over 3 and 6? I havent really been watching, so i dont know why.

  • When I first beat this game on the real SNES, (to me) it looked like Luigi had tears coming out of one of his eyes and I thought he was crying because he didn't get to save the princess. It was probably the TV I was playing it on distorting his graphics. :P

  • Most of the endgame looked like it was a lot easier to do asceticly, then the beginning parts of the game. Which is interesting and displays nintendo's use of coins pretty well.

  • raocow said porn

  • The mushroom in the Bowser fight doesn't give you points in the original game as far as I remember.

  • PROGRAMER

  • Strange tags...

  • Disliked just for the fact, that this great series has come to an ending :/

  • This was really a pleasure to watch. Thank you very much for removing part of the Christmas-and-beyond-even boredom.

  • OH MY GOD, RAOCOW CLEARED THE AREA AFTER THE LAST DOOR! HE FINALLY DID IT! ALL THOSE TRIES IN THE 9TH DOOR CONTEST AND HERE HE ONLY DIED ONCE!

  • @TheGuyWhoIsSitting all this practice really paid off!

  • @raocow Good job, raocow! You have done well. I look forward to your next project.

  • Thank you for this ascetic run Raocow. You made me look at one of my favourite games of all time in a different way and also made me decide to give it a go myself.

    Cheers :D

  • Well duh! After Jackie Chan taught Mario his 36 Drunken Monkey Fists technique, Mario dedicated himself to asceticism and enlightenment without the use of high powered booze.

Great series. Question: have you played Cthulhu Saves the World? I don't know if it would be a popular project, but I've been watching the game, and for an RPG type, it's entertaining. Somehow, I think you'd enjoy it. Give it a look.

  • Very enjoyable ascetic run raocow, definitely a blast from the past. Made for some very enjoyable puzzles, and some very creative solutions. Looking forward to your next project.

  • Oh man. That luigi speech.

  • Oh wow, the Princess gets a third hand during the "THANK YOU" bit. Obviously rao was right about the great spritework.

  • @chrisxthor no, that's her white belt you're probably thinking is a hand...

  • Hey Raocow, does the japanese rom hack of super mario world happen to be brutal mario?

  • @rpgfan4lists it's probably A2MT.

  • @gamefan6219 A2MT is a western hack made by the people at Talkhaus and is no where near completion. I think he mentioned Hyper 6 a while back, but I don't know if he planed on playing it or not.

  • Mario 2 IS really mario 2, actually. It was originally a mario game..then not..then again. Odd.

  • When I was a kid I always did 2 and 5 because they required the least amount of effort. I also considered 6 the hardest one of all.

I also originally heard you had to hit Bowser 50 times to kill him. So I spent a bunch of time trying to throw mechakoopas at him and hitting the bottom/side of the clowncar. When I finally got to 50 I was so disappointed, until I learned to hit him on top.

I also used to think the one single American name (Dayv Brooks) in the credits was the most hilarious thing.

  • Was there any coins or dragon coins in the castle itself? I don't think so. There was only points.

  • Dear Diary,

Today, what with Shiggy secretly being Jackie Chan and Bowser and his brain scooping habits, Raocow in his delightful oddness actually managed to creep me right the hell out.

  • I miss you saying; "That was a demo!' More science time+Demos. Ty! :D

  • So Evolution helped the undead turtle survive. Good to know.

  • I really had fun watching this run! :D The ascetic twist made it very entertaining to watch. So thank you Raocow! I'm looking forward to watch your next series ^^

  • you forgot the 9th door!

  • As a kid, I always took the back door to Bowser's castle because I thought I was being super sneaky and cool!

  • I used to always be a door 2 & 8 kid too! =D

  • @Airazor i use door 2 & 8 there the easy doors

  • again my subscription box deceives me

  • I kept refreshing the channel until this video showed up.

  • @Drgnslyr123 We probably need to go and get married in a chapel somewhere. They need to build more chapels for people to get married in. There's a sandbox outside my apartment, but nobody ever plays there, because all the kids are inside playing Minecraft, so they could put up a chapel there, and all the YouTubees could go there and hang out and marry and sing about the good old days when a YouTube was a YouTube and a fish was a dinner.

  • hoppinh statue was in the castle after the forest

  • @kirbyy:

Actually, there were no hopping statues there. Only fire-breathing ones.

  • Funny enough, I always do doors 4 and 8, because running to the end of the hallway is for some reason the way to go as a kid.
