  • zakk wylde would blow this guy out of the water

  • @helpdonate1 Zakk Wylde is a very good guitar player, but he is nothing compared to Eric Johnson. However, I'm a big fan of both of them. The only thing Zakk could blow to Eric it's Eric's cock ;)

  • @helpdonate1 You, sir, must be a maximum fanboy to believe your own words.

  • Master !!! It not needed to be so perfect...

  • Eric Like Alway's. Sound's Pretty Darn Good, But That Singer Sucked On That Song. I Hope He Sing's Other Ones Better Than That.♫

  • If there's one thing that's undeniable about EJ (although there's actually many), it's that he sure knows how to start and end a song.

  • 4:36 - 4:41 Good god someone stab him.

  • At first it was a bit weird, but then Johnson started to put in some of his own awesome way of playing, and it became epic. :]

  • Button your shirt up dude...

  • Cool shirt, and amazing playing, of course !

  • Its as if Mick Jagger was Black......... Amazing cover!

  • perfect performance, thx for upload

  • y eric clapton decian que era el mejor guitarra del mundo??? IMPRESIONANTE ERIC JOHNSON

  • this is overwhelming

  • EXCELLENT !!!

  • I like EJ, but I don't like his cover of this song too much. It's ok...not Jimi level playing. Even the great EJ is struggling a bit with the timing on this one.

I liked Shawn Lane's version much better. Better feel/timing/tone

  • @stubaru You started that comment out with a lie..... anytime someone says "I like that, but...." they are gonna follow up with total bullshit.

  • @univoxone

you make absolutely no sense. how is anything I said bullshit? It's more an opinion. You could have just said you don't agree with me. Instead you show you're a dick. grats

  • @stubaru jimi level? hendrix was the best guitarrist on earth, live not so much he never played this song the same as the record which is by far the best version

so what are you talking about? the timig is perfect he just had trouble going from lead to rythymg that's all

  • @dnnysrock sometimes it's not the technical aspect, or timing, but either a solo has it, or doesnt. I didn't like this from EJ

  • I actually think the singer has a good vioce for covering Hendrix.

  • Awsome

  • Wow, thanks for this vdeo.

  • cooooool

  • What a awesome guitar player.

  • The guys at 5:22 are like Holy shit I can't believe I'm playing with Eric Johnson

  • buena guitarra!!!

  • Who the hell decided on that singer???

  • Singer ruined everything.

  • Love how Eric unplugs his guitar right after he plays the last note. HA! 6:38

  • That is the fattest sounding bridge pickup ever.

  • @GMMStrat3 hes got the tone rolled off.

  • La Original es de Dylan, y la famosa es de Hendrix.

  • Ahora hay 2 que tocan mejor que Clapton

  • Wow! Jimi's brother

  • awesome!! i didn't knoe David Caruso jammed too!! @5:40

  • im speechless

  • some of the solos are quite rushed. i love EJ but this just feels stale. i think it would have been better if he hadnt tried to be so precise with the solos and put his own spin on them. his playing at the end is great though

  • no words .... just amazing.

  • Has anyone ever seen Eric Johnson and Dana Carvey in the same room together? I think not.

  • @waldo2384 Go, Dana!

  • Not bad

  • really nice cover, EJ looks a little awkward playing though, i think he just has funny fingers :P loving his tone though, neck pickup ftw!

  • singer is terrible...

  • EJ shows how brilliant Jimi's music really is.

  • Who's the singer?

  • @juninhoextremosul That's Earl Thomas... very cool and inspiring singer and songwriter. Greg Nagy

  • @FlintboyG Great interpretation!

  • Best version of AATW since Hendrix

  • Gyerekek ! Szenzációs felvétel!! Látszik hogy Eric maximalista, mert így senki nem tudja utánozni Hendrixet!! Varázslatos felvétel!!Szeretném megtudni az énekes nevét,mert ő is nagyon nagyot csinál!!!

  • EJ does whatever the fuck he wants to, with whoever the fuck he wants to.

  • 5:40, ginger elf king is pleased by erics performance, kudos.

  • 2:57 to 2:59 = wtf ?

  • What's wrong with the vocalist ?

he's idiot , wrong style , over done vibrato , over acting.

for me it was total blasphemy and destroys the intended mood.

  • it seems to be a new trend these days , to do this , even in jazz and people like adele and lady gaga are keystones of it i think | somehow for me this entire recording doesn't have the energy of the original Hendrix version | maybe thats cuz I've moved my speakers out of stereo config. but who kjnows

  • I don't believe I just saw Eric Johnson use a steal guitar when he could have just as easily used the trem bar.

    Ditch the idiot vocalist.

Focus up eric , stop recycling the lick.

No your feed back note was not very convincing.

As for the rest , wasn't too bad , YES more of the trade mark style riffs.

  • Just LOVE watching him play a strat!!......I've said it a million times, i'm a good guitarist myself but ONLY when i watch Johnson do i find myself every time thinking,"Man, i wish i could play the guitar."

  • This singer SUCKS! Get him off the stage!!

  • This guy has great voice

  • singer is gay but the guitar is very hot..

  • 14 people disliked this just so the bar would look like a joint. we all miss the 60's.

  • whos this band ?

  • Love how he gets the Hendrix tone! Sounds so pristine!

  • kkkkkkk what a bad joke!

  • talent, pure talent

  • Gyerekek Johnson remek gitáros!! Ezt a számot szenzációsan adja elő!!!! Nagy élmény!! Köszönet a feltöltésért!!!

  • Holy #@!% $#^@# that was amazing!

  • Look .. for the first 4 minutes EJ gives us one of the best covers of Jimi's recording of this song (as defined by tone and correctness of guitar licks) . It's 99.9% perfect, both in sound and notes. Then at 4 minutes he takes over with his own wonderful style. I would say it's the best of both worlds - wouldn't you? Maybe the "kids" today don't have the patience to listen past the 4 minute mark. How else can you explain ANY criticism whatsoever (of EJ anyway)?

  • WTF?? Anyone who says this singer is no good is either in the 7th grade or doesn't know anything, or maybe is a blinded homophobe. You might not like his style, butto say he sucks?....go back to your bedroom, wanker

  • @rbernie29 Hey I'm in 7th and I thought it was fine. Hendrix is the God of Rock

  • ej's tone is 100 percent accurate

  • Where did you get this video? I got to own it.

  • That is the fattest bridge pickup ever.

  • while all you boys are arguing, Eric baby is slaying the dragon, and bringing Jimi back to us for 7:07

if this doesn't make you cry for what we lost, you have a heart of stone...

  • Wow!

  • super good guitar - singing very good but not same level.

  • Do you know what's so good about this?

The fact that Eric has his guitar tuned to E and, as you all well know this song is actually In Eb, He plays the whole song flawlessly.

WITH THE WRONG TUNING! lol, Technically anyway.

    Still perfect.

  • @MrAJSavage the song is in Cm, so I have no idea what you're talking about ?

  • @MrAJSavage I don't know really. I think everyone I know plays this in standard tuning and I think Jimi also did altough I am not sure... And the key is C minor, yes same tones as in Eb major but the root is the C-note.

  • @MrAJSavage

your a fucking idiot.....all he does is play everthing a semitone higher....

  • @SaulHudsonGibson Your a fucking prick, You think I never knew that? Don't jump to hasty conclusions.

  • Nice but Shawn Lane's is much better

  • Very nice. A little to much like the Hendrix version. Covers should break new ground, But it is nice.

  • I see.. many of you like the singer. OK. All of them are great musicians but despite that it sucks and i dont blame them. Jimi is just like them, original in his own way and that is the reason way they cant play it right

  • @Turboslang there is no 'right' way to play the song.....I guess you are forgetting this is music- I have heard many versions of this song and this holds up- listen with the heart not the head-

  • Good God! The singer is badass, though eccentric. Eric Johnson is incredible as always, with spot-on Jimi-tone and playing. I could say I'm not surprised, but at the same time, I can't help but say that is an overly marvelous performance!

  • What's this show? A Hendrix tribute

    ?

  • EJ can make this song sound close to Hendrix because he is playing a REAL vintage Stratocaster.

  • leaving... couldn't watch anymore.. going to a real version - Dave Matthews Band - Watchtower w/ Warren Haynes -MSG- 2000

  • @w1ldrover Dave Matthews?

You must be joking.....good riddance shmuck!

  • @minjoem Not Dave... Warren and he rocked it.

  • @w1ldrover That is no reason to disrespect others. I like DM but will tell you that I have beaten the crap out of a DM fan for the exact same reason (disrespect)

    No shit

  • @w1ldrover That version is very good. I love Dave's interpretation of the song, even when he does it without Warren. But they wouldn't even have the idea of playing All Along the Watchtower that way if it wasn't for Jimi. EJ does a great and faithful performance here. This is a very good version.

  • haha this singer's stage presence is hilarious!

  • In three words: Tone, soul, heart......

  • buena versión

  • How can you not fall in love with Eric Johnson he has an unique sound when he plays his own stuff and yet when he plays this song he makes it sound almost completely like Hendrix and jet you still get that amazing Johnson sound. The perfect MIX.

  • @kallelal I just love the way he paid homage to the original Hendrix solos at first and then later on in the song he went off and did his own thing. He even threw in a little bit of an SRV chord dolo at the end there. Lovely stuff !

  • It amuses me how many on these videos will expose their ignorance by comments comparing musicians like EJ or Satrani or SRV, etc saying one is better than the other. It's like kids arguing on who's dad can beat up the other. Those people are so linear in thinking & in the ability to see the contributions these artist make. Each of these great musicians come from different places & travel similarly. I love Satriani but he can't do/create the stuff EJ does & vice versa...

  • Clapton performed this song with Lenny Kravitz.... Clapton was a little sloppy but Kravitz nailed it. Would love to see Lenny sing with Eric Johnson.... "Hendrix Lives"

  • Truly brilliant time change @ 4:28.

  • SOB!!! I love how he switched from the guitar to the steel lap and back again...that was totally bad ass.

  • I remember where I seen this guy singing before. Earl Thomas was onstage aboard the Love Boat with Davey Jones from the Monkees.

  • Singer is horrible. EJ is brilliant

  • Go Eric go! Brilliant.

  • Awesome guitarist, crappy as hell singer. Eric Johnson could have found a singer more on his level than Earl Thomas. This guy can't sing for sh!t!!! EJ is a fantastic guitarist but hes clearly no Joe Satriani. Joe is by far the best guitarist ever, those who disagree need a reality check and need to watch him tear up his ESP playing surfing with an alien. Hendrix, Clapton, Van headache, EJ, and even Dimebag Darrel Abbott are no Joe Satriani. Of the fore mentioned Dimebag is by far the best.

  • @MasterWitchDoctor I hope you understand that Satriani was influenced by almost all of the players you just mentioned. No one cares what you think about other players, it's all about respecting musicians even if you don't like them.

  • @mrnose55q AH no. Satriani is a guitar instructor who taught the likes of Steve Vai, Kirk Hammet, and numerous other guitarist. When I seen him in 1989 he was tearing up an ESP and now its an Ibanez. EJ has even learned a thing or two from Satch so as far as influencing who here I'd say based on real facts you have it exactly backwards.

  • Straight, gay, who gives a shit?! The dude can sing!

  • @ 4:07 the guy behind eric looks like a random hippie that stumbled onstage just like, "woah, cool".

  • @TheBoonPlatoon I agree with you, he's great. I dunno about his sexual orientation (or care much) but he's definitely feeling it. All of the musicians did a great job.

  • Hateful singer, he belongs in a casino somewhere. Irritating graphics too, but great EJ violin tone around 5:00.

  • i like this version more than the clapton and kravitz version i mean this singer is so much better tha kravitz and clapton well he is good but i like more the playing of johnson in this song

  • Fucking epic singer!

  • Awesome!!

  • I didn't know Martin Lawrence could sing!

  • Great

  • well thas some demostration of how to leave an audience with their jaw on the floor, my God, he nails it, and the pickups he chooses at those certain moments, he knows the Strat.

  • version is a incredibly well and incredibly touched by eric sung by this guy ...

  • That was absolutely beautiful!

  • Been a fan of Eric Johnson for years, finally he hooks up with an amazing singer, you go Earl!

  • I used to play with Earl Thomas and let me tell you that man can sing like a bird! Great job Earl! You're rocking it hard with one of the best guitarists in the world now!!! SICK!!!!

  • MAJESTIC !

  • awesome guitar work, singer's Rhythm sucks balls

  • i think the singer holds the tune together and makes the show better... Eric just stands there and stares down at his fingers, so the singer moves around like Scott Weiland to make up for it, and keep all the women from dozing off... dont get me wrong, the playing is good/ but the timing is way off on many parts of it...

  • the singer is eric's bf

  • I hate when almost any singer covers hendrix. They always try to do it as if hendrix was an american idol contestant. Jimi had a pretty terrible voice by singing standards, but it worked great in his music.

  • That neck pickup was astonighing, absolutely irreproachable, I get shivers every time i hear that. As for singer, please listen to his singing, he sing well, the stage appearance doesn;t matter too much.

  • Who the hell is this guy (the singer)?

  • good lord, just listen to that man play the guitar. that's what you call music. talent and music. too bad you don't see it so much in this era of "music"

  • Just listen to the tone of the neck pickup towards the end... I nearly died.

  • There's no getting away from the fact that Eric Johnson is a superb player however a lot of the runs here performance don't even sound in time with the band to me.

It's almost like he's practised all the phrases on his own and is still only listening to himself, rather than play those honed runs locked into the what the band are playing.

It's still an amazing performance but he only really seems to lock in when he starts free forming.

    Truly awesome tone though. :-)

    Why Captain Camp on vocals??

  • 4:37, the singer's dance makes me lul at the top of my lungs

  • Only other cover to match this one was done by Frank Marino. Still not sure which is my fave

  • Only other cover to match this one was done by Frank Marino. Still not sure which is my fave

  • I wonder how we would balance the greatest between Clapton and Jimi if Jimi had lived? Where would music have taken Jimi? I wish we could find out.

  • Is this part of a DVD? I really want it !!

  • Seriously, one of the best Hendrix rendition that i've ever seen !

EJ is simply a God's gift to us. He is the only one who can get the Jimi Sound without risk of becoming an " Hendrix wannabe" , but keeping up his unbelievable and heavenly violin tone !

I like the singer too !!

  • EJ nailed it! Fantastic performance...A real tribute, with his signature style in the end. Magnificent! But,thanks to the singer, even dough he has a decent voice, this video is hardly watchable...And I'm pissed because of it!!! EJ is alongside Jeff Beck the best guitar player in the post Hendrix era...

  • @FlukeMR

I'm pretty sure Hendrix's version of the song is different from Dylan's. I dig Hendrix' s version. This is a phenomenal cover. Too bad you don't see it that way.

  • songs like this are the ones that inspire me to pick up my guitar and learn

  • Who knew Martin Lawrence could sing!

  • I loved this live perfomance, everything was perfect!

  • Comment removed

  • greattt guitar tones, love the lap steel, great band, not a fan of the singer..

  • The singer ruins this otherwise great performance.

The lead guitar is awesome, as the rest of the band.

  • Singer moves in a peculiar fashion, but damn those are some nice pipes.

  • Eric Johnson is great guitar player... the cover is great too :)

    The singer is gay!

  • the singer is gay , look at his necklace .

  • the singer is gay , look at his necklace .

  • I agree that no one can really sing this song the way JH or Dylan do, however, it is EJ that steals the show here....close your eyes and it is like Jimi has come back to earth for one more jam.....amazing!

  • @jm031962 You nailed it brother. Eric Johnson does Hendrix like nobody else. Many can play the notes but Eric gets the feeling and the equipment just right. Look at how many people it took to recreate that studio AATWT sound live. Hendrix never had the luxury. We were lucky to have had Jimi and to have Eric now. See Eric live if possible.

  • Eric should be the only guitarist on the planet who should be allowed to perform jimi hendrix songs...nuff said.

  • You keep talking instead of listening , who cares about teh way the singer moves , he has a great feeling and a great voice .Then E . J . is out of this world .

  • Jimi looks down and says "thats the way its supposed to be done". Never tire of listening to your version EJ. Many have tried but you are the first to succeed.

  • To those making fun of the singer, stop watching his funny moves and just listen, he actually is really good in my opinion

  • Despite what you all may think about this singer's sexual orientation and movements throughout the performance, you have to admit, he fucking kills the vocals. So much, so much soul.

  • Comment removed

  • That singer is a fairy.

  • 8 people are tone deff

  • Outstanding

  • Singer fukin raped that song

  • Hahahahaha - the singer! O.o Srsly, dude, wtf?

  • @kooboora yeah, kinda...

  • is like jimi but with some more of blues, like the original song by bob dylan, very nice!

  • wow EJ was on fire there!
