@helpdonate1 Zakk Wylde is a very good guitar player, but he is nothing compared to Eric Johnson. However, I'm a big fan of both of them. The only thing Zakk could blow to Eric it's Eric's cock ;)

I liked Shawn Lane's version much better. Better feel/timing/tone
you make absolutely no sense. how is anything I said bullshit? It's more an opinion. You could have just said you don't agree with me. Instead you show you're a dick. grats

so what are you talking about? the timig is perfect he just had trouble going from lead to rythymg that's all
some of the solos are quite rushed. i love EJ but this just feels stale. i think it would have been better if he hadnt tried to be so precise with the solos and put his own spin on them. his playing at the end is great though
Would have loved to have heard Bono do vocals here. This singer reminded me of Eddie Murphy in Delirious. Also, let's not forget that this is a BOB DYLAN song folks.

Just LOVE watching him play a strat!!......I've said it a million times, i'm a good guitarist myself but ONLY when i watch Johnson do i find myself every time thinking,"Man, i wish i could play the guitar."
Look .. for the first 4 minutes EJ gives us one of the best covers of Jimi's recording of this song (as defined by tone and correctness of guitar licks) . It's 99.9% perfect, both in sound and notes. Then at 4 minutes he takes over with his own wonderful style. I would say it's the best of both worlds - wouldn't you? Maybe the "kids" today don't have the patience to listen past the 4 minute mark. How else can you explain ANY criticism whatsoever (of EJ anyway)?
WTF?? Anyone who says this singer is no good is either in the 7th grade or doesn't know anything, or maybe is a blinded homophobe. You might not like his style, butto say he sucks?....go back to your bedroom, wanker
@MrAJSavage I don't know really. I think everyone I know plays this in standard tuning and I think Jimi also did altough I am not sure... And the key is C minor, yes same tones as in Eb major but the root is the C-note.
I see.. many of you like the singer. OK. All of them are great musicians but despite that it sucks and i dont blame them. Jimi is just like them, original in his own way and that is the reason way they cant play it right
@Turboslang there is no 'right' way to play the song.....I guess you are forgetting this is music- I have heard many versions of this song and this holds up- listen with the heart not the head-
Good God! The singer is badass, though eccentric. Eric Johnson is incredible as always, with spot-on Jimi-tone and playing. I could say I'm not surprised, but at the same time, I can't help but say that is an overly marvelous performance!
@w1ldrover That is no reason to disrespect others. I like DM but will tell you that I have beaten the crap out of a DM fan for the exact same reason (disrespect)
@w1ldrover That version is very good. I love Dave's interpretation of the song, even when he does it without Warren. But they wouldn't even have the idea of playing All Along the Watchtower that way if it wasn't for Jimi. EJ does a great and faithful performance here. This is a very good version.
How can you not fall in love with Eric Johnson he has an unique sound when he plays his own stuff and yet when he plays this song he makes it sound almost completely like Hendrix and jet you still get that amazing Johnson sound. The perfect MIX.
@kallelal I just love the way he paid homage to the original Hendrix solos at first and then later on in the song he went off and did his own thing. He even threw in a little bit of an SRV chord dolo at the end there. Lovely stuff !
It amuses me how many on these videos will expose their ignorance by comments comparing musicians like EJ or Satrani or SRV, etc saying one is better than the other. It's like kids arguing on who's dad can beat up the other. Those people are so linear in thinking & in the ability to see the contributions these artist make. Each of these great musicians come from different places & travel similarly. I love Satriani but he can't do/create the stuff EJ does & vice versa...
Clapton performed this song with Lenny Kravitz.... Clapton was a little sloppy but Kravitz nailed it. Would love to see Lenny sing with Eric Johnson.... "Hendrix Lives"
Awesome guitarist, crappy as hell singer. Eric Johnson could have found a singer more on his level than Earl Thomas. This guy can't sing for sh!t!!! EJ is a fantastic guitarist but hes clearly no Joe Satriani. Joe is by far the best guitarist ever, those who disagree need a reality check and need to watch him tear up his ESP playing surfing with an alien. Hendrix, Clapton, Van headache, EJ, and even Dimebag Darrel Abbott are no Joe Satriani. Of the fore mentioned Dimebag is by far the best.
@MasterWitchDoctor I hope you understand that Satriani was influenced by almost all of the players you just mentioned. No one cares what you think about other players, it's all about respecting musicians even if you don't like them.
@mrnose55q AH no. Satriani is a guitar instructor who taught the likes of Steve Vai, Kirk Hammet, and numerous other guitarist. When I seen him in 1989 he was tearing up an ESP and now its an Ibanez. EJ has even learned a thing or two from Satch so as far as influencing who here I'd say based on real facts you have it exactly backwards.
@TheBoonPlatoon I agree with you, he's great. I dunno about his sexual orientation (or care much) but he's definitely feeling it. All of the musicians did a great job.
i like this version more than the clapton and kravitz version i mean this singer is so much better tha kravitz and clapton well he is good but i like more the playing of johnson in this song
well thas some demostration of how to leave an audience with their jaw on the floor, my God, he nails it, and the pickups he chooses at those certain moments, he knows the Strat.
I used to play with Earl Thomas and let me tell you that man can sing like a bird! Great job Earl! You're rocking it hard with one of the best guitarists in the world now!!! SICK!!!!
i think the singer holds the tune together and makes the show better... Eric just stands there and stares down at his fingers, so the singer moves around like Scott Weiland to make up for it, and keep all the women from dozing off... dont get me wrong, the playing is good/ but the timing is way off on many parts of it...
I hate when almost any singer covers hendrix. They always try to do it as if hendrix was an american idol contestant. Jimi had a pretty terrible voice by singing standards, but it worked great in his music.
That neck pickup was astonighing, absolutely irreproachable, I get shivers every time i hear that. As for singer, please listen to his singing, he sing well, the stage appearance doesn;t matter too much.
good lord, just listen to that man play the guitar. that's what you call music. talent and music. too bad you don't see it so much in this era of "music"
There's no getting away from the fact that Eric Johnson is a superb player however a lot of the runs here performance don't even sound in time with the band to me.
It's almost like he's practised all the phrases on his own and is still only listening to himself, rather than play those honed runs locked into the what the band are playing.
It's still an amazing performance but he only really seems to lock in when he starts free forming.
Seriously, one of the best Hendrix rendition that i've ever seen !
EJ is simply a God's gift to us. He is the only one who can get the Jimi Sound without risk of becoming an " Hendrix wannabe" , but keeping up his unbelievable and heavenly violin tone !
EJ nailed it! Fantastic performance...A real tribute, with his signature style in the end. Magnificent! But,thanks to the singer, even dough he has a decent voice, this video is hardly watchable...And I'm pissed because of it!!! EJ is alongside Jeff Beck the best guitar player in the post Hendrix era...
I'm pretty sure Hendrix's version of the song is different from Dylan's. I dig Hendrix' s version. This is a phenomenal cover. Too bad you don't see it that way.
I agree that no one can really sing this song the way JH or Dylan do, however, it is EJ that steals the show here....close your eyes and it is like Jimi has come back to earth for one more jam.....amazing!
@jm031962 You nailed it brother. Eric Johnson does Hendrix like nobody else. Many can play the notes but Eric gets the feeling and the equipment just right. Look at how many people it took to recreate that studio AATWT sound live. Hendrix never had the luxury. We were lucky to have had Jimi and to have Eric now. See Eric live if possible.
You keep talking instead of listening , who cares about teh way the singer moves , he has a great feeling and a great voice .Then E . J . is out of this world .
Jimi looks down and says "thats the way its supposed to be done". Never tire of listening to your version EJ. Many have tried but you are the first to succeed.
Despite what you all may think about this singer's sexual orientation and movements throughout the performance, you have to admit, he fucking kills the vocals. So much, so much soul.
Thats exactly the problem... the singer is singing this like its a soul song, which it is NOT. This is EJ's cover of Hendrix' cover of AATW, and that is rock. The singer needs to live more into this song and give it some rock'n'roll! Otherwise, fantastic performance! Of course this is just my opinion, but im a huge fan of this song.

I wonder how we would balance the greatest between Clapton and Jimi if Jimi had lived? Where would music have taken Jimi? I wish we could find out.

Is this part of a DVD? I really want it !!

Seriously, one of the best Hendrix rendition that i've ever seen !
EJ is simply a God's gift to us. He is the only one who can get the Jimi Sound without risk of becoming an " Hendrix wannabe" , but keeping up his unbelievable and heavenly violin tone !
I like the singer too !!

@FlukeMR
I'm pretty sure Hendrix's version of the song is different from Dylan's. I dig Hendrix' s version. This is a phenomenal cover. Too bad you don't see it that way.

greattt guitar tones, love the lap steel, great band, not a fan of the singer..

The singer ruins this otherwise great performance.
The lead guitar is awesome, as the rest of the band.

Singer moves in a peculiar fashion, but damn those are some nice pipes.

I agree that no one can really sing this song the way JH or Dylan do, however, it is EJ that steals the show here....close your eyes and it is like Jimi has come back to earth for one more jam.....amazing!
jm031962 10 months ago
@jm031962 You nailed it brother. Eric Johnson does Hendrix like nobody else. Many can play the notes but Eric gets the feeling and the equipment just right. Look at how many people it took to recreate that studio AATWT sound live. Hendrix never had the luxury. We were lucky to have had Jimi and to have Eric now. See Eric live if possible.

Eric should be the only guitarist on the planet who should be allowed to perform jimi hendrix songs...nuff said.

You keep talking instead of listening , who cares about teh way the singer moves , he has a great feeling and a great voice .Then E . J . is out of this world .
criguit 11 months ago 3
Jimi looks down and says "thats the way its supposed to be done". Never tire of listening to your version EJ. Many have tried but you are the first to succeed.

To those making fun of the singer, stop watching his funny moves and just listen, he actually is really good in my opinion
bonecracker23 11 months ago 3
Despite what you all may think about this singer's sexual orientation and movements throughout the performance, you have to admit, he fucking kills the vocals. So much, so much soul.

@TheBoonPlatoon
