take off the recoil cover and then the recoil. look at how its set up. just like a tecumseh. wat type of needle do u buy for the dura force enging, tecumseh. and if u look when toro started was helping lawn boy in 1990 there first 4 stroke was a tecumseh. then the next year they made the dura force engine. the differnce between the actural lawn boy engine and dura force is on the real lawn boy engine the air filter was on the left side and not the back.

Toro did not "help" Lawn-Boy, but instead bought out the company from OMC in 1992.

Lawn-Boy powered some of their mowers with Tecumseh and Briggs & Stratton 4 cycle engines only because of market pressure. Lawn-Boy Duraforce (2 cycle), Tecumseh and Briggs & Stratton were all sold within the same time frames. Lawn-Boy produced Tecumseh and B&S mowers for many decades.

@russellj1998 btw if lawnboy made all there engines y did toro have them on there mowers... have you seen any toro with a toro motor other than there cheap stuff. chaina engines on them not toro. if toro made there own engines it would make them lose money and crap, kinda like chevy trucks because they use isuzu engines from japan. And if lawnboy made the duraforce engine why were they unrelible unlike the L style lawnboy engine.

@nissanskyliner34stun TORO never used a Lawn-Boy manufactured engine on their mowers. They used a Suzuki 2 cycle.

As far as TORO using Chinese engines, I find it unlikely and I would have to see proof. A link provided by you would suffice. I may learn something.

Duraforce unreliable? Most L-B aficionados will disagree. I own 4 of them and all run flawlessly.

Lawn-Boy never made a model "L" engine. Models A, C, D, M, F, V, and E were built.

@russellj1998 i found a toro with 2 storke engine with exact engine as duraforce part #'s,like the air-vane and carb. model 20441, 1995-1996 model. and im typeing on a little net book so i ment to type m not l.

@russellj1998 look at the magnetos on the tecumseh 2 stroke snow blower engine and the dura force engine on the lawn boys, there exactly the same. the only difference i can see beetwen them is the head is bolted on and the snow blower 2 strokes are like most weed wackers.

hey TheGrayTruck that serial # on the deck says that its a 2000 model year! the first 2 numbers of the serial # tells what it is, if its was 1999 and older just say it was a 1996 the numbers would be backwards it would say 69%$#@%$ and so forty but 2000 and newer the serial number would read 20*&^%$% for 2000 and 23&%#@!#$ for 2003 that gos for toro and wheel horse too.

fwiw, the starter parts (the guts of it anyway) are the same as found on Tecumseh motors different starter case but the pulley, spring, locking clip are interchangeable with the later model starters on Tecumseh. you do have to remove 3 of the rivets so you can swing the case out away from the starter housing I think I used 8-32 screw with locknuts....but the preferred way is to use a pop rivet one might opine that simply installing a new LB Duraforce starter is quicker (G)

@russellj1998 That's right, but it was basically the Briggs E*Tek Snow Engine on it's side with crank reed induction. Toro bought the rights to manufacturing the Briggs design.

@russellj1998 If you guys dont mind me adding here, I dont think its a tecumseh engine. Tecumseh would have used a full metal carb. not plastic. Plus if you read lawnboys developement history they never mentioned anything about Tecumseh and they state that  "Lawnboy engineered its own 2 cycle engines". Also they called the engines E, D and F series, not Tecumseh engine names like LEV etc.. just my thoughts.

If you ever get the chance, look up the White Outdoor LT140 riding tractor. I have one, It's an older tractor(1987) and kinda rare. But they are also kinda cool. The one we have does a better cutting job than our 2007 John Deere LA125. It has a chrome grill & chrome wheel caps. Just an overall good tractor. Heck, I've worked mine more than I should have. It's pulled homemade plows & such. Grader Blades. I want to restore it some time when I get the time & money. Ahh, now I'm just rambling. 5star
