@Eragongirl2 Because his music was revolutionary (avant-garde i would say), just like Bach who was not so popular either in his time, but there are fewer people who remember his way more popular adversary, Telemann.
ABSOLUTELY STUNNING! He was ahead of his time. People don't seem to understand that simply because they refuse to. It may be too many notes, but that is beside the point to be honest. There is not one composer might I add today that the whole world knows, he has been dead for over two centuries and everybody continues to know his music and speak the man's name. Genius!
@crawnjc82 but, his music makes him one of the most difficult composers to play, and I know what I'm saying, I'm playing this piece of music right now in our orchestra.
maybe his music is complex. It still is very good music, and I assume you do know what you are talking about but if playing his music is deemed difficult, that surely does not take away from the mans gift as a composer of music. The man kept music in his head and most of his music is hard to read since he constantly wrote his music and notes on the fly. We have not seen any composer since the golden ages of orchestra around the late 18th century like Mozart. Keep up the good work.
It's amazing how many great Artist, Poets, Writers and Musicians were bi-polar. After learning about Mozart (somewhat), it certainly looks as though he may have been one himself. His periods of intense productivity, his grandiose statements of his own merit, his bad managing of money are all signs of Manic behavior. There's also pretty clear signs of his depressive periods. There's a book called "touched with fire" that lists these great artists and describes their suffering and their triumphs.
the best thing about Mozart is his music never takes itself too seriously. he never makes us stay in the darkness too long. this overture is a perfect example of this.
Emperor Joseph II: My dear young man, don't take it too hard. Your work is ingenious. It's quality work. And there are simply too many notes, that's all. Just cut a few and it will be perfect.
Mozart: Which few did you have in mind, Majesty?
With all due respect, this interpretation is dreadfully slow. Not even people refusing the "historical performance" view would pick this tempo today. I'd recommend a newer and bit more fresh recording. Really comes more to it's right in my opinion :)
Have to agree with you. That said, a "song" is a musical piece or composition with words - songs are sung, after all. However, i urge you to keep on digging deeper into the world of music - there's great stuff going back an entire millenium!!
Mozart write this opera after Figaros wedding. The style is very similar apart from Don Giovannis somewhat more sinister content. Lorenzo da Ponte wrote the libretto (text) for both.

Composed one day before premiére, performed "prima vista" - without any rehearsal in theatre during the first night. :)

It's pretty clear the man was leaving in another dimension.
And some dickheads still criticise him for being sloppy with his finances...

This man was unable to write something boring, all his works are fun and entertaining to the extreme.
Start slow and solemn, and later becomes fast and lively. It is exceptional.

she(the music) is laughing, crying and teaching us more about our selves than we ever will understand.
