  • i used to play a game from this series on my ds like 4 years ago but i cant remember the name, you recruited these monsters , but you combined them or something to make bigger better monsters........ please reply and help me play this epic series again

  • great video!

  • Cool dude

  • give me more OLD SCHOOL RPGS! plz god!

  • how many dragon quest are there on ds?

  • @abnouye09 3

  • @abnouye09 6 if i remember IV,V,VI,IX,Joker and Joker 2

  • How many dragon quests are there?

  • @quikflow

well its about to be 10 games in the main series

  • Quicksaves are great but the lack of them added to the difficulties of RPGs back in the day. You didn't want to save every second because it took so damn long but when you didn't the risk of death and wasting 20-30 mins was there.

  • @Anthonyishiphop

    its not in stores anywhere

u have to buy it online

  • nice, first look at dragon quest on the new 4ds, woot!

  • I got the DS trilogy and was thinking about picking up Jokers 1 and 2 since it's been announced for Europe, should I pick them up?

  • I love love love dragon warrior/quest

  • dragon quest IV 2008 dragon quest V 2009 dragon quest IX 2010 dragon quest VI 2011 all remake for ds what comes 2012

  • @jenslyn87 I would just start with IX on DS. If you aren't familiar with jrpgs, it's a nice start, and you can still easily find a copy in a store.

  • Can any Dragon Quest buff recommend me a game to start with in this series? I'm not very familiar with Japanese RPG games, but looking to get into them... so it'd be good if it isn't too complex and doesn't reference other games too much I guess!

    Appreciate any suggestion!!

  • im playing DW 7 at the moment ( first DW im playing) and its very long o.o

  • I agree . . . EVERY GAME SHOULD HAVE QUICK SAVE!!!

  • Hi friend, what you mean when say 3DS or 9Ds,it`s the model of the console i mean in new versions when sad 9DS,or the newest games?

  • Everybody should definitely get Dragon Quest monsters: joker for ds

  • hey man can you tell me which is better, dragon quest 4 or dragon quest 6?

  • @juanwaffle1 get dragon quest 5. thats the best of the bunch. 4 and 6 are pretty much the same thing :/ 5 has more of an original story.

  • @Gonzo233 okay man i'll do it

  • for some reason, i think of bulma from dragon ball, looking like the blue haired girl from dragon quest 5 and some of the char from dragon quest and ball, look similar

    even the tiltes are similar......

  • I bought this game last October, I got completely hooked on it!

  • I completely agree about quicksave being in every single game. Especially now that consoles and portables do more than just play games.

This was my favorite DS game, loved the way it was set up with the different characters having their own chapters.

  • Have Dragon Quest I, II and III been release in English?

  • @JakeIsKlever Yes, they were all released on the Nes, they also recieved remakes on the gameboy color.

  • Dragon Quest 4 was amazing one of my favorite RPG games I put it in the same level of most of the SNES RPG's

  • lol i got dragon quest 8 9 and 10

im only looking at the earyler ones alot of difference

  • Re-Watching this... The first video that got me into watching and subscribing to your vids!!

  • why cant i find five in any gamestop

  • DQII is the greatest rpg of all time.

  • @sneakybeard I agree that is also really amazing!

  • @sneakybeard barbie horse adventure ds best rpg ever

  • @sneakybeard I love 5 thats my favorite rpg

  • No IGN or Gamespot video review? For shame. Great review, especially for the praises for the quick-save feature, which should be the standard for all RPG games on handhelds.

  • I just finished the game today. It is amazing!

  • Hey so you like Torneko, you gotta check "Torneko: The Last Hope" on the PS1, it's a spin-off title of the Dragon Quest series, it was released in US November 2000, easy game but very very funny to enjoy :)

  • Super helpful and enjoyable review video. Thanks a ton! I just found out about the DS Dragon Quest IV, and was wondering if it was worth getting. Totally gonna go out and buy it now!

  • Dragon Quest ix (9) is the best so far....

  • wats better this or Chrono Trigger

  • @YWOOOX chrono trigger hands down

  • Why don't they make it for ps3 or 360???? They only made one for ps2!!!

  • @PrinceOF9Imagination

Small correction, they only made this for PS1 and NIntendo's DS.

  • I was talking about DQ8

  • @PrinceOF9Imagination Jrpg's are dead on new gen console. that's why

  • well then , download it :)

  • Dragon quest VI for ds was just announced today! feb 2011 is the release date. :)

  • i hate myself for selling my copy :(

i really want to play it again!

ill try to get it again

  • They should have kept the name "Dragon Warrior". "Dragon Quest" doesn't sound nearly as cool.

  • You probably already know this but... There is a fan translation of the DQ5 remake on the PS2. If you haven't played it, check it out! They did an awesome job.

  • I love this game to death. Can anyone recommend a similar rpg for the ds? I love these rpg's with turn based battles and level grinding. Let me know people

  • @ledzkreep Final Fantasy III is really good, and Final Fantasy IV is also really good

  • kick ass game collection man.

  • how many dragon quests games are for the nds ?

  • @drkcrstl there will be 3 in total, including DQ VI which is coming out in Feb of 2011

  • Dragon Quest is my favorite RPG series! Awesome character and monster designs, story, music, gameplay, graphics. It's got it all!

  • Why get bullied for a game? Seriously what the fuck is wrong with people? I can understand if you were a guy and bought like a barbie game but not dragon quest

  • Anyone think this was the basis for Mother 3? Playing through the different chapters, completing that person's role, and in the end come together ( Lucas, Duster, Kumatora, and Boney) to defeat the main evil ( Porky)?

  • totally the best dragon quest ever... i so loved the original and so owned this one great choice of game man

  • In some cirles, sitting in front of 2714 video games gives you high social status ;DDD

  • good review thanks :)

  • A lot of fond memories of this game. The NES version was the first RPG I ever beat. Also, Taloon was my favorite character, too.

Tip: Buy Swords of Malice while running the store and refuse to sell them. Save one for yourself and possibly even one for the Hero in the final chapter. I don't know about this remake, but in the original you don't get to keep the gold you earn as Taloon, but you could keep his items, equipped or not.

  • @redbuck82 only the first 2-3 are related. The rest all have their own stories and you don't need knowledge of previous games. their all free ranged.

  • @redbuck82 it pretty much is like FF different storys but with dragon warrior you have alot of reaccuring atributes and features, like music, monsters and sounds. the only dragon quest i ever made it through was the very first one for nes. played a little bit of 2 -4. and my brother had either 7 or 8 for the ps1(wich was an amazing game btw) and i just got dq9 for my ds wich is awesome and im not lost. so dont hesitate to pick up a random dragon quest number and go with it. hope that helps.

  • dude you house looks like a game store

  • only 40 hours? it took me 140 hours to beat dragon quest 8 o.O

  • @ImperviousMason dude hi 5. lol but yeah it took me about 40 hours to beat DQ5

  • Two Questions:

    How do you quicksave?

And how do you speed up the Battle?

    Thanks for any Answers :)

  • i thought all that stuff happened when dq3 came out that people were getting mugged and all that?

  • Awesome shirt man :3

  • @redbuck82 nah not really a certain order i started out with dq8 for ps2 and it was great and so far ive played 4 and 5 for ds both great games. totally different stories although 4 and 5 there are some smilarities such as getting the zenithian armour and same zenith dragon but still great game series.

  • holy shit. you have a ton of games behind you.

  • I just started playing it - and I've never played any DQ games before, so this is my first one - and two things struck me: How much Golden Sun resembles this, and how the touch screen is completely useless.

  • This game is great, it got me into loving Dragon Quest and giving a second and enjoyable opportunity to DQ8. I think I'll try and buy DQ5 second hand from a friend, it's said to be the best of the classic DQs.

  • Wow, nice review man! You should really, check out the new DQ IX that's coming out July 11!

  • I should play these other DQ games because I enjoyed DQVIII a lot.

  • am I the only one who got a very poorly translated one?

  • I'm currently playing this game and I love it =]

I also am currently playing V on the DS and VII on the PSX

All I have to do is wait for VI and IX X3

  • Holy Blunt snacks i gota buy this shit asap

  • I prefer the old-school rpgs over the cinematic, linear ones that come out now-a-days. I'm looking forward to the NA release of DQ9 and the unveiling of DQX.

  • i finished dq 4 ds recently and i gotta say i'm glad they decided to bring dq 4 & 5 to ds because they are awesome games from start to finish.

  • man, the DS is a SOLID system...

  • @OrbitalHUB Yes it is. They have a lot of good RPG games on it.

  • boss review ftw

  • absolutely fantastic review!

  • wow I wanna buy this its just 15 bucks :3

  • kids being bullied coz of a video game i could understand this game kicks ass!

kind of odd dragon quest 4 is called dragon quest chapters of the chosen on the Europe release its weird its doesnt have the "4" there hmm oh well its awesome

  • did anyone notice that theres absolutly no review of this game, besides this one and another? wierd

  • I can't wait until I get right into DQ 4 and 5 on the DS :-)

    The music sounds brilliant.

  • I remember a friend of mine renting this game back on the NES from none other than a supermarket chain. The rentals were 2 weeks long and we played this thing day and night during a summer vacation. He lucked out because some disgruntled employee burned the store down by secretly lacing all kinds of products with lighter fluid. It was like 3 months planning for this guy to burn it. Awesome ass game too. The DS brought so many fond memories of this game to me.

  • In Japan kids were getting bullied because they wanted to steal their copy of DQ4. Funny, I remember getting beaten up FOR having a copy of DW4.

  • Just like how kids in America used to get mugged for their Air Jordans in America.

  • Japanese Kid: Why, why are you lookin at my DS?!!!!

Thug: Gimme the game or get a stab in the face.

  • @hybridRace92 I sued that fool because im not japanese.

  • @Link4587452 ouch man that sucks

  • I love this game. I like how you don't use the stylus to move your character... but i'm old-skool like that I guess

  • i got one

  • Very good... I enjoy others enjoying what I enjoy........enjoy

  • How'a dragon warrior 7? I got it from a friend but haven't really tried it however the last game of the series I played was the 1st one and a little bit of the roms for the othe three.

  • It's my personal favorite in the series, and it's also the longest (my last save file was over 100 hours...). Think of the episodic nature of Dragon Quest stories, but ramped to the max--it's all about uncovering the world. Literally!

  • Interesting how the DQ series was so popular in Japan but here it was FF that became the dominant series. Even though we got all the early DQs but not the later ones, but we were shafted on early FF games.

  • the reason we never got DQ5 and 6 is because enix of america closed their office in usa so no one could localize them. luckily they returned and we got some classics like star ocean 2, valkyrie profile and one of my personal faves, dragon warrior 7

  • Yes!!!

  • does akari toriyama do the art for dragon quest???

the artstyle looks very similar to DB-DBZ

  • yes he does. since the first game.

  • is there any dragon warrior for the SNES

  • yes but they werent released outsie of japan. theres dragon quest 5 and 6, as well as a remake of 1+2 on the same cart and then a remake for 3. you can find them on the internet if you look and play them.

  • You may also find them in local "re-use" shop located all over Japan. I found DQ I-VI on the SFC (SNES) w/box and manuals. Overall I paid about 50 for all 6 of them. If you can't get them that way, try searching the internet or maybe making some online pen-pals or so. The internet is a great tool to find such classic gems.

  • That only puts the console in sleep mode. And what if you want to play something else? You'd have to remove the game and lose your progress.

Quicksaves are still useful on DS.

  • Also I love that store part too. When I sell stuff in MMORPGs today it reminds me of way back when.

  • The thing I disliked about 4 was that you had to use the AI to control your chars after you formed the party. I dunno if its still like that on the DS version. DW3 however remains one of my fav games of all time.

  • you can turn it off, and control all the characters manually. You can do the same thing in the nes version also in the menu

  • BTW you thought Torneko was cool too!

I've been playing rpgs since I was 6 and one of the first things I remember to do is (like every rpg gamer on the planet) visit the weapon store and no matter what the game there would always be a weapon's store.

But to actually play as the person selling the weapons? That made my head spin I thought that was original and very cool.

I held out for a while before setting off.

I've never played his dungeon games, are they any good?

  • DQ IV is one of my favorite DS games.

I was shocked when I found out about the chapter system and thats why I loved it.

It gave backgounds for all characters thus making them all memorable.

The weirdest thing about this game and I think its the first time it's happened in RPG history. Is that this game was released in Australia 5 days before the U.S. Now here in Australia we have to wait 6 - 9 months for the local release.

I thought I was going to have to import it, didn't need to.

  • We have the same problem in Europe,. They always release the games months later than US!

  • Unfortunately, two big flaws on the US release completely pushed me away. The first being the translation. For whatever reason, recent DQ games have been getting all sorts of ridiculous accents written in that make it hard to understand some characters. Then you have the bizarrely missing team chat.

In the Japanese version, the characters could speak with eachother through out the whole game. The option was left in and the dialogue was translated, but it was missing in the English releases.

  • Cool concept for a game. I don't know if I could play such a sweeping epic game on a little hand held though.

  • *watches 3 minutes of the review* thats it im gettin this >:3

  • Yeah thats what I meant when I said on my first comment that i'm not sure if it was released in America

  • I went on wikipedia and it said it was remade for the ps1. Check their.

  • It was remade for playstation but i'm not sure if it came to America or not.

  • It didn't come to America because the company that was in charge of all the remakes of Dragon Warrior/Quest went under in the U.S. And since no other publishing company was as knowledgeable about the series, it was never ported to the PSX in the U.S.

  • I cant wait to play number 9 hopefully it comes out here DQ9 i have tried and its FREAKIN AMAZING

  • 30-40 hours is not long!?!?! for a handheld game!?!?! I beg to differ...i want to get this game now!

  • I have 3 on the gbc.

  • wow

    just look at his background

    how many games!

    good review

  • Half tempted to grab a DS lite, this game, DQ5, and FF4. I enlisted and was thinking it would be nice to have some portable RPGs to take with me. An upgrade for my GBA SP.

WOrth it? Good idea? I love RPGs more than any other genre by far, have for a couple decades.

  • damn, i NNED this game and my local game store only has the new DQ5 DS (not that that isn't great)

  • i would love to see ur ds collection

  • i want a remake of the first and second dragon quest game I loved those games on the nes!

  • I think the first three are on GBA?

  • it came out already, on the super famicom in japan, and we got it on the gameboy color :D

  • yeah i was always really interested in DQ5 because i was in love with the story line, but im thinking of picking up DQ4 for the DS, but i dont want to be dissappointed, does the jumping in between the different characters stories get annoying? please answer.

  • Do you have a DSi?

    Please answer:)

  • I really want to play DQ4 now but ive just started Phantasy Star (based on your videos) and ive got FF4 and Lost Odyyssy on the go. As soon as Phantasy Star and FF4 (since im playing both on DS, one being emulated) ill play DQ4 on DS once those are done.

And im loving your videos, it really comes across how much you love these games and makes it more appealing for me to give these games a fair shot, which I missed due to age and my tastes (I never really got into RPG's until I was 14, in 2004).

  • Didn't they release Dragon Quest IV in Japan for the PlayStation 1? I'm pretty sure a friend of mine got a copy of that.

  • Yeah but an English version was supposed to come out. I guess Enix cancelled it due to poor NA sales of DW7.

  • Naw, it got cancelled because the coding issues and the company they worked with to code it (Heartbeat) quit.

  • Yeah i had dragon quest 8 for ps2. it was fucking awesome.

  • very very good review convinced me to get it

  • danmit man! u make the best reviews!

  • Top review! This game will suck you in BIG TIME. Heck, I'm even taking a hiatus from playing DQ: Journey Of The Cursed King (PS2 version - great game as well) just so I can fully focus on this title. My verdict (if anyone is interested, lol) : BUY IT!

  • The Torneko chapter was my fave chapter.

  • please help i got this game two days ago and i am at that fat dude chapter and the only thing i can do is serve wepows and thier something like this brige like i went to this caslte and the price dude gave me this letter to deliver to Endor but the brige is brock and like when i talk to the king he always says something like were is Teco Arch whetever his name is but pleas help me somebody reply as so as posible

  • i love DQ!

  • Good. I had sold most of my ds gamejs earlier cause they all stunk. This is a good looking one.

  • great review, you just sold me on getting the game. i still have my original DW 1,2 and 3 carts and really regret not playing the others, but now im getting the game

  • Nice review, dude. And as for this game... I am dying so freakin' badly to play this you wouldn't believe it! Ha ha, but yeah. Even tho' I'm still on GTA: Chinatown Wars (btw, awesome ass game), I still can't wait to play this, DQV and Chrono Trigger...

    God I love RPGs ( :

  • Whoops, I accidentally left a 1 star.

  • This game is awesome and I love your review on it. Will you be doing more portable gaming reviews?

  • This game is amazing, it completely shatters the original, ergo, you'd love this game to pieces if you liked the original!

  • I knew you were going to say that Torneko was your favorite, haha. did you ever play the Mysterious Dungeon game?

  • I played the one that was released in the US. It's rather addicting, that I thought was just too hard. Word of advise, spend a whole day completing the dungeon instead of saving in the dungeon, or you might regret it. And also, the Mage Dungeon was a complete fail with the randomness of the spells you learned as you went up in level. Overall, still a fantastic game.

  • i might try this

  • yeah it looks good, to bad i do not have a ds lol ^^

  • believe me, this game is worth buying a ds.

  • Lol can't really stop the bus

    Funny shit.

  • You need to review Dragon Quest V when it comes out.

  • bac in the day lol

  • Just letting you know the DQ4 remake did come out in Japan. The ds is just a port of it.

  • DWIII was my favorite. I think the "class changing" at the shrine was a really awesome feature. I also loved the dose of nostalgia at the end with the "World of Darkness", and it was cool to find out who you were playing as the entire time. I won't elaborate so as not to spoil it.

It ranks 11'th on my all-time RPG list.

  • Cheers to the old schoolers!!!!

  • I hope they remake III I liked that one.

  • I hope they decide to remake dragon warrior III as well. However, I think that dragon warrior iv is not only the best dragon quest game, but the greatest video game of all time!!!

  • i never played a dragon quest will i follow the story or is it like a sequel to older games?
