  • Hi,

would you reccomend this tent if I intend to make solo hiking trip for 2 months? I mean, I'll stay outdoor 2 months, and probably there will be raining at least 15 days.

  • kitty box camping

  • @solobackpacking False Cape State Park is a very sensitive ecosystem hence the designated areas for tents.

  • First of all, this is a tent, not a bivy. Its a bivy style tent, the only bivy thing about it is it's shape. It truly is just a small, non-freestanding, double wall tent. The bad thing about it is that it has fiberglass poles which break too easy, try getting aluminum poles for it

  • its a tight fit tent but be careful of the poles they brake after a year or so of abuse ,my front pole snapped the first day of a trip and i had to rig the tent with rope and trees

  • if you used an 8x10 tarp also, you would even more room than that tent, for like an extra pound in wieght

  • now, i like that tent..

  • Litter box camping.

  • @jamieboyrockon It was shot at False Cape State Park which is about a 6 mile hike south of First Landing, on the southern end of Back Bay Wildlife Refuge.

  • Where was this video shot? This looks very close to First Landing State Park in Virginia Beach.

Also, pretty informative video. Thanks for the insight!

  • Great Bivy tent ! Does the bright orange become annoying after a while?

I mean if you are in iy during a rainy DAT ?

  • @SECRETBOL Not at all. I wish it had more orange on it. I like tents with bright colors because they are easier to locate when you are returning to camp and it also makes tasks like reading inside the tent easier.

  • what do you suggest to use in a warm night? mosquito net is not warm enough, and a sleeping bag (even the lightest i have) is too heavy and too warm.

i also need bug protection or i will be eaten alive.

  • @kidi1232 you don't need a mosquito net inside a tent or bivy.

  • @kidi1232

    Silk sleeping bag liner.

  • @kidi1232 try a hammock with a cover

  • @kidi1232 just buy a small backpacking fan i have one and it helped espesically if its humid it does wonders

  • would the bivvy be big enough for a man and a medium sized 60lbs blue heeler?

  • @wevor4tard Unless the dog is sleeping on your chest, no.

  • @wevor4tard

The Marmot Home Alone 1 bivy is large enough for a person and a dingo.

  • well that was worthless

  • Are you suppose to still use a sleeping bag with bivy sacks?

  • @ajatkinson2004 in short, yes. The type of bag would depend on the weather just like with any other tent. A good bivy will keep you dry and keep the wind off of you but they don't really provide any insulation.

  • Love my Solitaire too.

  • I used mine just fine, bought it for $35.

  • Eureka makes a nice bivy! I prefer the Timberline 2 though if i'm staying out for longer than 1 or 2 nights. The timberlines are indestructable.

  • matters on your trip his tent weighs 4 times as much

  • @YOUSCREW11

Not only that but if it is cold, that small tent will warm up faster than a 2 man dome tent.

I just got my Solitaire so I haven't actually used it yet, just set it up in the living room, it got really warm inside after just a few minutes.

  • How much do these cost? And what is the pack size?

  • Retails around $90 but you can usually find it online for about $60. I would check Amazon.

  • @tomarlowe I actually just bought one from eureka as a factory second. It cost me $32 shipped, it was totally worth it. The stuff sack has some dirt on it, but the tent itself was completely useable and nothing wrong with it. i would def recommend it to someone that is looking to buy one of these.

  • I have the same Eureka Solitaire and just bought a Eureka Apex 2xt. The solitaire is great but I think I prefer a shelter I can sit in if it's raining.

  • I agree entirely. I am thinking of upgrading or maybe bringing some sort of tarp shelter I can put over it to make a larger dry shelter in case of rain.

  • @dahelmetrk I have the Apex 2XT, but at 5lbs 6oz. it is a little heavy for some uses, and it takes up a lot of backpack space. The bivy in the video weighs 2lbs 9oz.

  • I like bivy tents. I think in cold weather, having so little air inside to warm up is an advantage. This one looks real nice.

  • Looks like a great small tent though. And a fair bit cheaper than the Akto or Laser. Kind of unfair to blame it for the fact that you used a one season sleeping bag or so. Then again, funny, good show :)

  • I wouldn't necessarily call my tent a full size tent. I still packed it small enough to fit in the panniers on the side of my bike. ... haha... Emergency Cocoon :).
