Love Her Madly IS the only song a Doors fan shouldn't like. Annoying honky tonk piano from Ray, a very weak guitar part by Robbie, with a drunk lazy Jim on vocals. A terrible song to sum up The Doors' sound. Awesome skit though!

Actually there is bass guitar on the studio albums. I believe most of Waiting for the Sun was done by Douglas Lubahn.

They actually had Ray playing bass on his keyboard, but it is true they did not use a traditional bass guitar. One of a kind, they don't make them like that anymore. I actually tried to be just like Morrison for two weeks after I saw "The Doors" movie the first time. Radical!

One point of contention though is that Love Her Madly is one of the GREATEST Doors songs ever made. The one you stop liking after you actually get into them is actually Light My Fire.

Otherwise, yes, it's best to seek out 'classic albums' first, then decide how much more you want to explore the band's discography. As far as I know, The Doors didn't make a 'bad' album so there wouldn't be any need for their greatest hits.
