"Patrick Pearse was Irish and died in the 1916 rising and he wore his kilt with pride and got married with it "
That whole statement is wrong, except for the Irish part. He didn't die IN the Rising, he was executed shortly after. He never wore a kilt and never married.
He wanted the kilt to become irish dress, but the fact is that it is not. It did not take off at all.
the kilt is a uniquely scottish garment, and I dont understand why a country as rich in culture and heritage as ireland, feels the need to adopt another countries naitonal dress.
an irishman in a kilt is as authentic as a japanese person in lederhosen.
It's Tartan that's uniquely Scottish, the Modern Kilt originated from the Gael Celts Brat and Pictish/Brythonic Celts love of patterns (tartans). The Kilt Towels in this vid are clearly a Stuart Tartan which is of coarse Scottish.
"Patrick Pearse was Irish and died in the 1916 rising and he wore his kilt with pride and got married with it "
The English royals have been wearing kilts well before Paedric Pearse, that does not mean that the kilt is part of irish tradition or that ireland has any historical tie to wearing the kilt.
The fact is that the irish do not, nor have they ever worn kilts.
The Irish have been wearing the small kilt for as long as any low lander or borderer has.
Further more the great kilt which became the small kilt as we know it today was developed from the Irish Leine and brat. The leine being pleated and reaching from mid tigh - knee and the brat being the woolen throw over becoming the great kilt.
These forms of clothing were banned in Ireland during the 17th century after the Gaelic wars, only regaining a rightful place agin in the mid 1800's.
"The Irish have been wearing the small kilt for as long as any low lander or borderer has."
Aboslute riubbish, this is completely fabricated nonsense, the short kilt was worn by the black watch regiment in the 17th century. the irish kilt was only devloped in the 1960s for the ignorant american market.
stop intruding on our culture and trying to pass the kilt of as irish, it is not, you know it and every other irishman knows it.
Looks like all the lads are having fun. Cute video!

Irish have every right to wear a Kilt. It's 'Tartan' Kilts that are uniquely Scottish.
