@JustJZ Not entirely. Light's plan had a couple flaws--1, he though that HE was justice. But a person's opinion can only represent justice. Light's thought of justice was twisted--he was killing people who had already been punished. 2, no one can become God. He had already snapped before getting his hands on that much power. That's why a lot of kings/nobility is corrupt, they just have too much power. And 3, Light was too childish to ever be a judge, much less a god.

He did it all for his own person starting from the beginning of the story... the authors of Death Note wanted you to understand the bad thing in itself wasn't Light, but just the Death Note who happened to fall in his hands... without it Light simply was your better than average social guy, with a knack for police stuff and justice. Light actually did a lot better with the Death Note than Higuchi or pretty much anyone else (as he said, no one other than him could have done it).

Light's persona, behavior and actions shocked a lot of people mostly because he was able to sacrifice just about everything to reach his goals, something which in real life is often considered as a virtue.

All that is left to discuss are the goals themselves, Light's ambitions... which for myself think are okay.

Well... I think that pathetic, miserable and almost pityful defeat is what every hatable villain should end with... in a long story such as Death Note, it should be of the most pleasing... as long as the villain deserves it and evil is punished.

To me, Light was a good villain, a good protagonist, or not even a villain... and I am trying not to take part into the controversial bullshit, to kill or not to kill criminals.
