my grandparents were in van during the Armenian Genocide.. luckily my great granfather decided to fight and give a brave resistance to the horrific crimes of the turks much like how jews showed resistance in the german or polish gettos, and successfully under the Armenian resistance leader Andranik.. they managed to save many Armenians from Van so they could escape to Russian Armenia under Russian assistance..
