Ah, Rise of the Triad. I used to play that alot. Although I WOULD have to say that in many ways Doom 1 and 2 (also around at the time as I recall) where better. RotT was still alot of fun in its own way. It had a God mode powerup where you literally become a god and fire bolts of smiting from your hands, and a Dog mode too!

@Andkloras I thought this game was scary too, shooting monks, El Oscuro`s giant floating head and his "eggs" the loud hums you`re character made under "god mode", the fact that the game started of as pure wolfenstein 3D action and progressively turned darker as you progressed. While the graphics where unusually realistic for that time.

Yeah the gore too, but more because it was so unusual, like the level where enemies stood still while being shredded by moving pillars full of knives,
