Maybe I'm biased towards my countryman, but I'd have loved to see the Bulldog stay in contention for the WWF title longer in late 1999. They could've had him beat The Rock at No Mercy (by cheating, of course - a heel Bulldog couldn't beat a face Rock cleanly), then put him in a fatal 4 way at Survivior Series for the title, before challenging Big Show for the belt at Armageddon. I'm a bit stuck after that, though... :-)
@1000sidney eh i liked his new attitude theme. now the old outfit, thats what he should have stuck with. remember thinking why he hell is he wearing jeans. he looks like a bum. (p)
@JakeT7 CMON, how can you not like his original music theme. Its the national anthem of britian, one of the greatest national anthems in the world. And his attitude era theme is just a dog barking and then some forgettable music.
@1000sidney Oh I like it fine. I just like the ruff ruff ruff song when he came back for the six pack challenge because i was so happy he was back in the main event but that turned out to be a run on Heat W al snow and the MSPosse, but at the time i thought it was gonna be much more. Finally bulldog was back from WCW and all was well.
bulldog was a loser anyway.come on a powerslam as his finisher.seriously did bulldog ever use that move to win a title?NOOO! he didnt.he lost to a peoples elbow not a rock bottom but a elbow.was that ever a job for money yesss it was.screwing over dynamite was the worse thing he ever did.
@777Myshit Simply put the Bulldog was keeping up to the Attitude era. Gone was the patrioric tights and Rule Britannia and in came jeans and a generic rock tune.
wow ....i wonder if anyone even remenbers bulldogs run at this period...one question though...why the hell did he wrestle in jeans!!! was that part of the deal? WWE to davey boy---" 2 condidions and you can make money with a new contract, 1. you don't sue us in the owen hart trial and convince your family to not as well, and 2 wrestle in jeans "
the bulldog looks like he should've retired years ago. He has the body of an aging wrestler. Just look at his right arm it's smaller than the left like luger and orndorff. UP WITH HOPE AND DOWN WITH DOPE! lol
this is the rock that i miss, the slow walking cocky ego maniac that the fans just so happened to love. This is just before he became a proper, proper face where he actually showed some people respect. This Rock respected no1 and was far more hilarious because of it. I mean he's 1 half of the tag team champions and wouldn't ever know it lol
Yeah Bulldog went down hill after this match. Kinda like Billy Gunn after SummerSlam. Bulldog over sold that Irish Whip and he mess up that Samoan Drop
It sucks that the British Bulldog never got the WWF title. Unlike the other big overmuscular guys that came to the WWF over the years, Davey Boy Smith knew how to wrestle.
@vicavox i disagree davey's charisma might not be as high but his wrestling ability was better than the rock's dont deny it For the lack of charisma he did not make it as a top star
@maxassasin911 You under estimate The Rock's in ring capabilities. People think he wasn't gifted simply because he over sold that stunner like no one else. But the fact was The Rock always made people look good when wrestling with him. He was athletic and a healthy staple of moves allowing him to wrestle more up-tempo matches as well as slobber knockers. His ability to generate heat as a heel ranks up there near enough alongside Savage. That in itself should be enough to outmatch Davey.
@vicavox rock is entertaining and electrifying to watch but compared to someone the ricky steamboat or bret har his in ring capabilaty is pretty bad compared to cena it is great
@maxassasin911 Granted, compared to those two you've mentioned The Rock isn't perhaps in their league. But Rocky was capable of having epic matches because of how he made that spectacle feel. He may not have been technically intricate but he knew how to work the dynamics and emotions of a match.
Ok, so everybody knew that The Rock was going to win this, why are still people in the crowd cheering for The Rock?? I mean it would've been much better if Davey Boy won.....CLEAN!!!!
I hated the punch-kick-punch-kick-smash head on guard rail-punch-finisher style of wrestling that emerged during the late 1990s and in evidence in this match. Remember the more technical style that Bulldog was a master of, that his match with Bret at Wembley is such a good example of, with him wearing his Union Flag tights not jeans and coming out to Rule, Britannia! not generic guitar music? Much better.
@puunjabirockstar yeah the bulldog one day will be in the hall of fame, once wrestlemania comes to the UK london wembly, he will be inducted for sure ... He was a big star 1970s in england, 80s 90s canada and usa...
@puunjabirockstar he should be in it next year unless Vince does the drug or whatever that had him induct Drew Carey in it this year(who did nothing except eliminate himself from the Royal Rumble 10 years ago)and have someone like Pee Wee Herman be inducted instead
Davey Boy Smith should've became WWF Champion while in the WWF. Just another star Vince McMahon didn't know how to use. Damn those McMahons. And I ain't saying this just because Davey Boy Smith is R.I.P.
It sucks the Bulldog came back to WWE and never got over and became a huge deal like he should have been. Instead, he got partnered with the Mean Street Posse and made numerous appearances on Sunday Night Heat. I wish he had never broke his back in WCW. The painkiller addiction that came from that injury really held him back from his potential. R.I.P. Bulldog. You are now in heaven having many tag matches with your tag team partner Owen Hart.
stupid rock if u ve meet Davey Boy smith's in his peak time u would have been thrashed now u are hitting an old man with all sort of injuries still u suffered a lot and for the sake of business behind ur brand given u the chance to beat him but this win deserve to be Davey boy smith's..... as a wrestler ur skills are a comedy when compared to Davey boy smith.....
this "attitude era" crowd didn't get what the bulldof was about....sure austin and the rock and mankind and taker were doing BIG buisness at this point...but just 8 or 9 years before this match ...THE BRITTISH BULLDOG!!! was the man...strong as hell..i wanna see cena's ass hold bigshow stright up in the air in a suplex for 6-7 seconds like Davey Boy Smith use to do... to Vader, to Sid, to Kevin Nash...he was THE Powerhouse.. and they let the rock run him over...that Sucks..R.I.P Bulldog
This was one of the last Main Event matches the Bulldog did before he was moved down to Mid card, I think if he stayed he would have gotten over again. He just changed company's too many times IMO. When he was over, he left for WCW, then he came back after being off TV for like a year.

Then he ended up in WWF for this stint, in 1999, which lasted until around early-June 2000 when he was released for failing to defeat his painkiller addiction (they'd given him like 3 chances by this stage). After this match with The Rock, he was moved down the card, but remained in WWF the whole time after (at one point, he lead the Mean Street Posse).
They should have given him the WWF Title, they gave one to Vince at the time. He Owen, Pillman, Lance Storm and Christian should have had a WWE title reign.
@RaWTeX Heart attack in British Columbia, Canada. Years of drug use caught up with him and it's rumoured his past use of anabolic steroids played a part. Bruce Hart his former brother in law said "Davey paid the price with steroid cocktails and human-growth hormones".
@RaWTeX It's such a touchy subject. I think that's why they have the Wellness Policy now but if introduced 10 years ago would it have saved so many wrestlers from dying? I personally don't know, it's very tricky to predict that. In some cases the wrestlers brought it upon themselves and Vince (or anyone for that matter) was powerless.
