  • Thats shifu yanzi, he lives in london with another monk called shifu yan lei, they actually train some mma fighters.

  • I do that every morning before breakfast. jk..

  • steel jacket demonstrated from a real shaolin monk

    super human powers

  • The reality is if someone like shifu shi yanzi enters the mma, he will destroy pretty much anyone!!!! you have to know what warrior shaolin monks like him are to get what im sayin!!!! i mean there has to a difference between athlete fighters and shaolin warrior monks from the mountains!!!!

  • MMA is no test for Monks... a monk would never fight MMA. its goes against morals

listen to the Dr. real close in the begining...

  • Nice demo about Qi

    Merry Christmas everyone

  • cxv

  • Let's see this guy survive in MMA, then we can talk.

  • Maybe MMA wouldn't be the right spot to fight for a monk , I guess. They are religious people in the end and want to show what the body is capable of. It would just don't be right to bring a shaolin monk to a MMA fight.

They are surely strong and they could win a fight against a MMA-figther, but they could loose as well.

  • this "guy" has been height times chinese champion of sanshou, which is the fighting form of kung fu, and twice world champion of the same discipline, he's never lost a fight. I don't think a discipline as commercial as mma is of great interest for him

  • @Ramshobraja as richardilet below says this man can fight! He has trained Sanshou full contact champions in this country... ok Sanshou is not mma ( no ground fighting ) but it is full contact and includes throws.. so if this 'guy' trained some groundwork who knows how he would do... hes no 'form fairy' i can assure you..do ur homework b4 u start slagging of ur betters.. mind you looking at ur channel u r no friend of reason!

  • I have been training with Shifu Shi Yanzi for 10yrs now & I can assure you he's the real deal! Year after year we produce British National Champions at San Shou competitions and have also achieved 2 Silver medals at the World Games... You should check out his brother Shifu Yan Lei who is also a rare breed of martial artist- Amazing Iron Jacket skills! : )

  • @willmackay I have no doubt he's the real deal Will!

  • @Ramshobraja let's see a fighter in MMA survive what he just did, then we can talk.

  • That's my Shifu!

    Shi Yanzi

    :o)

    visit his brother on youtube.

  • monks are tough. there have been several kinds of tradional iron ,steel marital arts for hundreds of years. chinese all know that monks are real figher and capable to take heavy blow.

  • Physics and faith are like oil and water, physics is not a religion, and a physicist should see the world with open mind without prejudices. Many things can be trick and many others are not a trick.

  • richard and judy are cocks. GMtv is shit.

  • Richard with his goggles on :)

  • This is the result of years and years of studying with other masters and practice.

  • i studied iron shirt for the three month time period its very hard to doo when you live in u.s.a cuz you have to do it every day and eat certain medicine, but its very usefull

  • this is my teacher hes actually quite amazing in real life and during lessons when he shoes u how to punch or kick he actuallys punchs the wall hard or kicks it and u feel the vibrations from the ground...he has full control over his chi well thats wot happens when u train for 15 years. ive been training with him for 5 months but even so im still a beginner =P.

  • Cool! Whats his full name? Where does he teach? Can you ellaborate a little more please?

  • his name is shifu shi yanzi. he teachs in london tufnell park theres a shaolin dojo with two red gates and two small lion statues on either side near a construction site. if u want i can tell u exactly just mail me.

  • just google shaolin temple uk

  • hes is the real deal the day he sat in 22 sandpiper close se16 london ...j.b .

  • om my jesus. WHY?!

  • Focus on the people around that monk! One or two of them are trained medical professional(s). There must be enough evidence that this is no freak show, so they went there just to confirm it. If it was so freak, why would they go then?

  • I'm the one who knows this man's true story. You see, i was a member of a team of scientists within a secret government project to construct a real life superhero. I'm afraid that, alas, this is not the result of heavy mental concentration or any spiritual power, which is what this faker would like you to believe, but it is instead a man who is made of metal. Yes, that's right, a real life bionic man. I just wanted to let you all know so you wouldn't be tricked into believing in crazy things.

  • I must admit you very insightful man.

  • you're funny

  • i used to train with this guy in back in the day. he was in Brixton for a while doing classes and also had some private lessons. he is the real deal.

  • It is all very impressive but at 3:46 that is a very clean 45 degree cut on the bamboo stick with splintering on the end.

  • 1]. it is not "very clean".

2]. no difference in him being struck to the ribs :| would be immensly painful - i don't understand the relevance of your comment.

  • sifu shi yan zi! much love, peace.

  • yeah you should show us your method some time mr evert things easy

  • you are an ignoramus

  • Just a 'science trick'. Think of the basic physics: the ram looks impressive because of its weight. But its holders cannot match the 32ft/s*2 acceleration which accounts for that weight. Also, he does not stop it 'dead' (which WOULD be impressive); he decelerates it over several feet. All 'supernormal' Shaolin feats are like that; they depend upon the defective physical intuition of the onlooker.

  • nice

  • well how do u explain they can break metal bar with their head? break spear with their neck? lie down on a triden midair? how do u explain those with physics?

  • so youre telling me that u wud let someone smash you in your ribs with a bamboo pole? i dont think so. this is control, this requires years of extreme intense workouts and mind over matter, it is science but the idea of CHI i agree with!

  • You mean the version where the pole is swung horizontally? Why don't you try it? But, firstly, watch carefully how they do it. They generally use a very long piece of bamboo, but they actually hit the monk with a part of the pole which is much closer to the 'swinger'. Ask yourself why.

  • I watched the bamboo demonstration and they are anchoring a full swing from one end and the other end strikes his body. There is clearly a full range of motion and a lot of force. Did you even watch the video???

  • you silly flowerbower, if they use this part all the weight of the bamboo is concentrated in a smaller area that make the hit even harder to take.

  • You should look more carefully at the physics, and not allow yourself to be fooled by the hype. A lot of impressive tricks are based solely upon the watcher's poor intuition for mechanics. For instance, anybody can (with a little courage) do the 'smashing concrete block on chest using sledgehammer' stunt. Put your faith in physics, not the paranormal!

  • well what about the big fucking tree he was running into!!!!

  • I did not see him 'running into it': I saw him timing his approach so that he could decelerate it over a greater distance.

It is true that the average door would be knocked off its hinges by such a battering ram. But a door has no choice; it has to decelerate the ram within an inch or so.

Finally, there is the age-old lay confusion between mass and weight. Those holding the ram have to contend with its weight. He contends only with its mass.

BTW, the observers are pretty dumb ...

  • Your right, Richard and Judy had their program moved, but they are entertaining because of their shallowness.

  • They are about to be axed altogether as a chat programme.

They hope to continue, in some way, with their book choices strand alone. They apparently have a huge influence upon the success of the books which they push. What a dismal thought. Imagine what Pinch might have said about War and Peace (too long?), 1984 (no 'proper' ending?) or Slaughterhouse 5 (brave old RAF flyboys?).

  • [continued] For instance, the tall guy once asked some balloonists, who had been to the 'edge of space', a) why did they not go any higher and b) whether they had become weightless.

The older guy with glasses (a GP) was often pushing 'alternative remedies'.

The younger guy with glasses (frequently described (by tall guy) as having 'a brain the size of a planet') has since been found guilty of plagiarism in his publications.

Sure the monks are tough, but anyone with the same toughness would do

  • Thanks for the information on the future of Dick an Jude, I do remember the psychologists plagiarism. He's not particularly exceptional in his chosen field.

I've trained with the Shaolin Monks and indeed the Taoists priests in China, trust me, it takes some time before they get to do what you see here. The have methods for toughening bones and it is associated with the word "Iron", Iron Shirt, Iron fist etc.

    They are truly tough bunnies.

    /watch?v=Llqup1Uir6k&feature=channel_page

    Namaste

  • It takes time to master any trick. Before any scientist accepted these demonstrations at face value, he would want to make measurements of the precise forces involved. The physics intuition of most laymen is very poor. That is why the 'party levitation' trick is so popular with fake psychics (how is that for a pleonasm) like Uri Geller.

As for the claim that the monks can walk over fresh snow without leaving marks ... ha ha ha.

  • Er they can walk across snow.....

I've just tried to find a video of a Chinese guy pulling a truck with a rope attached to a dish that sticks to his abdomen with chi. He then pulls the truck whilst walking over eggs and breaks none of them.

I can't find it but I'm on the case.

It's how you deliver the power through your body. tricky to describe unless someone has shown you how to do it.

These guys get up to some amazing stuff.

It's how we transmit power not just physically but energetically.

  • Not without sinking into it.

As usual, hearsay wonders without evidence. Like that film that is supposed to exist of Tibetan monks levitating stones by using the sound of musical instruments. And there is always someone who claims to have seen some wonder - but never happens to have a camera to hand.

I have yet to see anything from them which is physically impossible. And the impossible things, I have yet to see.

  • I understand your scepticism, that's healthy.

What the monks have done in a way is like any athlete, they've pushed the human body to the limits of it's ability through training regimes that have been developed over hundreds of years.

The phonics of Buddhist chanting focus around resonating the diaphragm along with the vocal chords, hence the deep resonance of their mantra chanting on one specific note.

Music, sound is more powerful than we think in terms of human emotional cause and effect.

  • All I can say is I took your scepticism and went to find out for myself.

To do is to know, academia is just the remembering and regurgitation of concept without doing.

All I can say is from personal experience, and I speak as a scientist who practices the scientific ethic, they have knowledge we don't in the West.

Arguably WE don't have a culture as we are now watching the destruction of what was created around us, because of course the West is always so arrogantly right, the arbiter of truth.

  • Same old, same old. And especially the same old slur that carefully controlled experiments, that can be replicated at will, are naturally inferior to uncontrolled fairground stunts.

When I was a child, fire-walking was deemed to be mystical, and documentary-makers went to obscure places to film the 'supernatural feat'. It is now a common feature of 'corporate team-bonding' weekends. Just another exploitation of poor physics intuition.

  • OMG the rib hit OMG ive broken ribs in a motorcycle crash, this looks like it hurts OMG i know it does this guy is tough

  • Are you serious about it, or sarcastic?

  • "the thing is, don't think about it! dont' go there, " CAUSE HE"LL KICK UR YOUR ASS!

  • mass x acceleration = force.

That telagraph pole has hugh Mass, even with very little acceleration, there is devastating Force behind it.

  • the aim of zen buddhism is to break the bricks?what a nonsense!

  • im guessing the breaking of the bricks is not the important part of the demonstration to them.

the important part is that while these extremely solid items are shattered and broken, his body is unharmed and he reveals no pain that he may or may not feel.

this would have deterred any would be attackers from discouraging their religion by force. and allowed them to meditate on truer forms of enlightenment.

  • what so impressive, Kung Fu and chi kung is normal. That what kung fu is all about

  • ppl said it fake becuz they cant do it. it not impossible. only kid said random stuff.

  • and that brick trick, i can see him moving his skull down into the other brick to lesson the impact. rof

  • i have hence the reason im saying somethig but the arms was damnm impresive

  • guess what I think anyone can do these TRICKS with enough training without zen. Bruce Lee use to expose some of these tricks.

  • Come down to STUK and you will realise Zen doesnt make u be able to do this, but it does make it easier as it teachs u to focus ur mind, Qi gong and conditioning is wat makes it possible

  • Oi! Tosser! Wot you think Zen is? Sorry, much loves.

  • i will however say the rest was bloody well impressive

  • im a ninjitsu practitioner so i do respect all martial arts but the telegraph pole is simple all thats happening is hes moving back from the focr so he doesnt take the full impact

  • That is true, but would you still take the force of a telegraph pole?

  • He doesn't move back, he moves in with his ribs, in order to receive full impact.

We train this the same with, butwith kicks to the ribs.

  • I want the iron jacket

  • Shaolin Respect !

  • thats my master!!!! i train at shaolin temple UK

    SonnyK

  • muy interesant conocimiento, saholin.god save saholin.

  • Now i know where Steve Coogan got his inspiration for Alan Partridge....knowing me,knowing Chi...AHHHHHHH !!

  • eh bunch of babbling english people. that monk's barely demonstrating the powers of qi gong. what would they know?

  • this is bullshit

  • awesome!!

  • i love the monks. word up son!

  • umm... the pole... his... ribs...

  • Soka Gakkai is a CULT. My wife's family in Japan was involved with them for years - they are responsible for stealing LOTS of money and brainwashing "believers."

  • this video sucks

  • Presenter 'Have you come here to show zen buddhism?'

    I live here.

  • He should have asked "can you please translate for me". But let's not do all of this again please. The presenters where too much in shock (haha).

  • I'm a SGI(Soka Gakkai International) member in France.

French Government has designated SGI as a CULT.

The organization morbidly revolves around The president, Daisaku Ikeda's guidance, and

The religious feud between Soka Gakkai and it's parent temple, Nichiren Shoshu, which excommunicated Soka Gakkai in 1992.

  • However, they insist that Soka Gakkai is the only organization dedicated to spreading Nichiren Buddhism correctly.

And, Soka Gakkai discredits other Buddhist sects including Zen as hellish and evil.

Also, If you criticize Ikeda, you will be condemned and marginalized.

    I'm considering leaving the group.

    Watch out for SGI CULT!

  • Who says these are connected to SGI?

  • can anybody who trains at the Shaolin Temple UK give me some advice. I'm already a martial arist and am interested in studying there. I would like to know how to join, what the masters are like, who trains who etc... thanks alot

  • if you look on the internet you can study in a temple with the monks for a monthly fee but you must do as asked or you will have to leave.

  • these english peices of shit need to go fuck themselves. what he is doin is focusing his yang chi into one point or area of his body. its is chi the internal metaphysical energy that is in all things in existance. not good calcium intake. also monks dont drink milk they eat rice, veggys, tofu, water, and tea.

  • can u give any tips on how to actually focus your chi? cause they also said something about breathing...

  • it requires years of training, discpline, and meditation. Once you've master this you can do many different thing chi, My girlfriends father is a healing chi master. He has taught his daughter to use chi to diagnose health problems.

  • Ouch! =) Excellent demonstration. Brings tears to the eyes.

  • Years ago, some US physics teachers would regularly have stone slabs broken on their chests using a sledge-hammer. They don't do it anymore. Why? Have they 'lost their chi'?. No, the schools are terrified of being sued, if this (medieval) trick goes wrong, and have banned it.

  • lol monks don't eat meat, don't drink alcohol, and yea no milk... anything from animal they don't intake...veggie and rice for life.... ugh i would get sick

  • That's crazy

  • incroyable

  • kool clip... check sum qi gong out on ma chanel! got the metal and the two finger handstand... shiyanwu

  • it's nice to see more wussy englishmen 'oh my god, we can't do that, so it must be a miracle!'. these presenters represent such a limited view of human potential. they actually go 'well done, you can get smacked around' how condesending!

  • They are not saying it is a miracle, they are in awe of him, you dumb fuck.

  • Even friends of the male presenter say that he is 'from the planet Zarg', because he is so out-of-touch with reality. He once asked some high-altitude balloonists if they had been weightless, just after asking them why they had not carried-on into outer space!

  • they know nothing about the chii sciences obviously

  • I like the end part when he says that Kung Fu is meaningless with out Buddhism.

  • i'd like to see him take the battering ram while standing against the wall...

  • There's a Shaolin Temple in NYC known as Shaolin Temple USA, with sifu Yang ming or something like that(sorry if i misspelled it). But it's too expenseve, but i wanna join.

  • OMG DON'T I've seen so-called "practicioners" who go their and they're horrible!! It's disgusting how many instititions there are in America that claim to promote Kung Fu but just teach crap

  • damn, not even a little scratch

  • he looks like the chinese version of the g.a.m.e

  • lol you are a funny one. :)

  • I would love to find a true teacher of Iron shirt.

  • he's completely zen and peaceful. though i'm uneducated he seems nothing less than a master of what he does

  • Exactly, I concur completely. This coverage was probably just a mild for of his morning workout =P

To be able to do this kinda stuff, one must be beating on the part of the body for hours a day, plus mediation, plus all their other exercises to keep the parts they've already built honed, rebuilding Qi (the rather unexplainable, but scientifically provable 'energy' that they use)... now THAT'S a bunch of work..

  • There is nothing fake about it, that was years of training and total dedication to his art.

To bad people trained this well never enter fights for sport.. he would completely dominate just about anyone on the planet.

  • oh no, if such people take part in fights for sport their opponents may sure die or suffer from serious injuries and they may then hv to go to jail... :)

  • he did fight for sport he was two time world champion in san shou (chinese kickboxing)

  • im white. i think its true. i think it's amazing. and funny how stupid the reporters acted. sometimes if i get cut by mistake i concentrate on breathing easily. something i picked up by myself. i guess its somewhat similar, although to an extremely smaller scale

  • heh white people thinking this stuff is fake

    so lack of knowledge

  • I have been studying with Shifu Shi Yanzi for six years, and everyday i feel more and more privileged to be under his Gong Fu instruction... I'm still totally in awe of his abilities and when i see this it makes me want to train harder than ever. I love the fact that Shifu is smashing bricks on his head whilst Richard wears his safety goggles 8 feet away!!! No mention of Chi from the Western doctors either- no surprises there...

  • Wow, this monk is made of steel...now i don't think the scientists at Discovery channel can explain about this now...(go search 'Shaolin Demo Tricks' to look for video clips showing how experts try to explain shao lin monks' ability)

  • Shi Yanze! What a great guy, he quickly learnt very good English and on his own, set up the Shaolin Temple UK, in London. Very keen on his Chan Buddhism.

Very nice person, and a truly accomplished fighter.
