thanks for your comments but this is not an outdated method. Infact it is used today by some of the top surgeons who have colorectal centers. This way showed in the video related to a hirschsprung disease patient. It can be done either way by gravity or by using a syringe. To avoid stool coming out around the catheter one would use a bigger cath or one that has a ballon attached to the end but yes it is always good to have towels underneath to help with the mess.
